ALCMs and Tomahawks are orbiting after launch, especially if enemy SAM installation is present nearby.

I can confirm this issue. I have done a lot of testing and the issue seem to (at least) be present in weapons using the cruise_missile_vert_start scheme, like the BGM-109 Tomahawk LACM. The same issues is of course present in my mods using the same scheme.

The issue presents itself no matter the range to the target, the number of fired missiles or placement of the target. But the results are very non consistent,  sometimes they work fine, sometimes they do a couple of loops and hit the target, sometimes they just loop until they run out of fuel.

Seeing the same thing with the RGM-109C - it's like they're entering a holding pattern or something. Sometimes they will break out of them and continue to the target, sometimes they will proceed some distance than enter another orbit and sometimes they'll break out of an orbit, proceeding to the target, only to crash away from the target (both on land or open water).

In this particular track, 12 missiles were fired, of which 4 immediately proceeded to the target, the other began orbits. After over an hour of orbiting, another missile broke out of the orbit and proceeded to the target. The others continued to orbit until they ran out of fuel.

HARM missiles freak out in SP mode just the same.)

I was hoping this would get fixed in the latest patch as its kind of a big problem. @Flappie has this issue been reported yet?

Yes, it's reported internally. Devs are working on it.

Great, thanks!

Temp solution for mod users

For example open 9M729_missile.lua from CH Iskander Mod

find turn_hor_N                         = 0.8 and change value to 0.0.

Why does a missile need to turn on its route? Let's deprive of this opportunity. The missile corrects its direction a couple of kilometers before the target, the trajectory looks great and smooth.

Core game files are to be corrected to, only devs can do this

Because it can be used to conceal the location of the firing platform (especially in the case of ships and submarines), allows the target to be hit from multiple directions or in a direction that's advantageous, allows the missile to avoid known threats and provides better opportunity to terrain mask or otherwise use terrain to its advantage.

Of course, missile randomly breaking into orbits and never leaving them is definitely a bug. But ideally we'd have the ability to set up a route for cruise missiles (like in C:MO), for missiles that can be programmed with multiple waypoints IRL (such as the Tomahawk), I'm not sure if orbiting is something cruise missiles can do (though it's not out of the realm of possibility, it can be useful for ensuring missiles hit their targets at the right time).
