It looks like the whole map download is the same as any part separately. Only the license(s) decide which part you have unlocked for high res.

Exactly! Same situation with Iraq map.

The whole terrain is still installed, however the region you don't own will have lower detail areas.

No, you'll have just one Afghanistan map license and that you'll be able to install. Even if you bought separate parts the install will take the same space as full map.

No, we still need the North.
What we have so far is South-West and East.

It was supposed to have released all three parts by Christmas last year. But I think they decided to "start over" to make it better.

Well… not to launch any criticism, I would have paid for a full product or DLC. 
Disappointing to wait one full year for nothing nor any news.

Not to start any argument neither, I bought the full map to come with a module I had imagined to fly over, reminding me my tour of duty in the country, controlling and jtacing it IRL.

Today, I just have two unfinished modules, and one with no hope now to see finished one day

Pretty sure many feels the same way. At the same time I'm sure ED took the criticism of the graphics to heart and made it better = longer time. Pretty sure many of us never believed the time frame anyway.

Not want to argue either, but I can't help you with your pessimism if you really believe the third part won't see the light of day, and the complete map will ever be finished. 

I do agree some info from ED to calm the nerves would go a long way for many users.

Agree. We have been told many times by ED that this is EA and no matter what was promised it doesn't matter and you just have to wait and EA is like this...

Delays are fine, but... if it just came with transparency to know what is going on for months, and that includes the Iraq map that seems now even further behind with updates.
