Before I purchase the map, I would like to know whether (single player and/or instant action) Missions are already included.

No, the Map does not include missions, each aircraft developer will have to edit those.

Thanks for your quick response, I already assumed that.

I think that we get the first missions with the next regular DCS update.

There are MP servers up already with the Kola map and simple missions if you're worried about having nothing to do when you get Kola.

After having flown around a bit, I wonder if that is not a missed opportunity for good publicity. Even in EA (maybe especially in EA), I think it would be useful for a map designer to provide a few missions from the get go. So as to focus players' attention on the high-detailed areas, and flying the types of missions that show off a map in the best possible light, both literally and figuratively speaking. It's basic marketing, so to speak.

And I don't think much complexity is needed there, at most a couple of hours in the mission editor for a few airframes (the free ones of course, maybe a couple of popular ones, like the F/A-18C ? Make it a Finnish one), and mostly for sightseeing. Selecting the right combo of time of day, weather effects, locations to explore, etc. And of course, have Wags deliver the usual "This is a Free Flight mission to explore the map. You can follow the planned course or explore as you will. There are no threats." 😊

Wish I had your throughput, I spent the better part of a day making a Voggen mission on it, and I still will have to test it today 😞

Edit:

I have started to port my Viggen missions to Kola, began by porting first some Static Templates, to ease the job somewhat:

These are some images of my Blue carrier template near Bodo:

Definitely it will take a bit of time, but I intend to port all of my Viggen training missions from Nevada to Kola 🙂  It will serve me to take my mind off from the Razbam drama.

Cheers!

Yeah, maybe I was a bit optimistic indeed ! But my point was more that mere sightseeing missions should not be too much of an effort and a great showcase of the map. I was not expecting any Reflected or Baltic Dragon-like effort ! Imagine the seller of an apartment showing you the good parts and taking your attention away from the ugly old cupboard and creaky floorboards but LOOK ! The view from the balcony is amazing. 😄

If anyone is handy with the mission editor and likes to make 'living words', with some ships, aircraft, populated airfields, and other activity preferably without heavy use of mods, that would be a great resource to share.

Bummer, I love Single Player mainly because I like the immersion that the use of Mods gives, on almost all of mine I use Massun92 and Current Hill Mods, plus Admiral’s and Eight Ball, amongst many others 😞  … only my training missions are Mods-free (almost, some of them employ the 476th vfg range mods).

YT suggested to me this Viggen mission walkthrough at Kola ... it gives an idea of how would the Viggen operate on the map as it is now, I was intrigued 🙂

The map will get 2 free singleplayer campaigns made by two of the best professional dcs campaign makers. The campaigns will probably come in June. When the winter textures are added.

Are you sure that they are free?

I just did a short search to see which aircraft are applicable. The Norwegians have F-16, Finns the F-18. Swedes got the Viggen but that is quite an older design. Finland has an interesting history of aircraft,  Mig-21 and Swedish Drakens.

So maybe we could do a list of applicable AC in the -70, -80, -90 and 2000 for interesting missions. And of course what the Ruskies got, but that should be already known.

There ougth to be some nerds out there who knows this.

Now, I do agree that it is sort of a missed opportunity, but you have to consider that the map devs might not have access to all the modules. So which ones to pick? Also, I consider the missions to be a showcase for both maps and modules, and it's easier for the module devs to make relevant missions IF they have access to the maps. If they do as part of the 3rd party status, the missions might have already been made, but won't get pushed until the next patch, as the latest "hotfix", was primarily a map release. Maybe ED should think about this for future map releases.
Cheers!

Worth noting that we train hard on the Kola map.  No goofing off or joyriding.

I'm just curios. Why didn't Norway go for F-18 instead of F-16? The F-18 should have a better naval capacity with Harpoons etc.

Price? IIRC the main point of the F-16 initially was to provide NATO partners with a relatively cheap, but capable platform.

Rig: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS; Ryzen 7800X3D ; 64GB DDR5 5600; RTX 4080; VPC T50 CM2 HOTAS;

Pimax Crystal Light

I'm learning to fly - but I ain't got wings

With my head in VR - it's the next best thing!

F18 had not had its first flight yet when the deal to purchases the F16 went through.

Even the US navy and Marines didn't get their F18s until 83/84. By that time Norway had received almost all the ordered F16s. And Norway already had the Penguin anti ship missile.

I've been debating an updated version of the 1918 invasion.  The British, mostly, were in Murmansk and the Americans in Arkhangelsk, but a little mission designer license can change that.

Though realistically apart from Otto Preminger (or Arnold Schwarzenegger) who would want it?  In the winter you freeze important body parts off, in the summer mosquitoes swarm whatever is left.

BTW, for those who have the F-4, there is a great mission on the Kola map by none other than Reflected. (BTW, they did an excellent job with the release of the F4 by having quite a few missions made by top-notch designers.)

Which MP severs are running the Kola map, I'm thinking of picking it up in the sale, thanks.
