pre-purchase has ended - but $80 for this early access version?

The pre-purchase phase for the early access has ended (30% off). You can buy the phantom for the full price of $80. Really?

If someone has the phantom and is happy ok, that's fine.

The videos I have seen so far, report many bugs. It is early access and therefore not all features are available and you will have bugs for sure, but come on - early access for the first launch is different than the (still) early access phase of the f16 viper, which is much more mature. I would recommend to think about the price in this early stage. But hey, if heatblur is fine with the sale rate, so everybody should be fine.

Just my opinion. I don't wanted to start the early access discussion again ;-)

If you are still interested on the F-4, you can purchase it on Steam at 20% off and then transfer the license to the DCS standalone, hurry, this will be for just one week, until May 29th

I think the F-4 is worth every dime, and it will even get better over time.

The recent statements by HB staff regarding the control inputs made me very disappointed and TBH, I regret the purchase. Unfortunately, no refunds. Until they fix the control scheme, I probably won't fly it.

uh, you just did, right?

My $.02 - - it's worth it, to me.  I bought on pre-order to save a few bucks; knew it wouldn't be perfect and that more development is coming.  Fly-ability, systems, features, detail, new stuff... all this adds up to a worthy purchase either at the price I paid, or the price it is now.  I think "early access" is a worthless topic because there are so many possible definitions.  Buy early because you're excited and really want to get going with whatever is made available.  Or don't, and wait until satisfied with reviews and feedback.  So, is the Phantom priced ok?.... Everyone can decide for themselves by purchasing or not, now or later, or never.

This is not a productivity tool, it's a hobby and form of entertainment.  Sometimes we buy a thing and we love it.  Sometimes we buy a thing and it's just not as good as we wanted (or possibly not as good as was promised).  Oh well, time to move on.

I have no idea what control input issue you are talking about ... this is one of the reasons to respect thread topics. 🙄

For anyone experiencing Control Mapping issues, please use the tickbox “Folded views” and only expand the controls that you’re binding.

I got the phantom on release day, haven’t seen any bugs as of yet, very happy with my purchase, it’s been one of the best releases for DCS.

OP mentions about the viper being more mature…. Go look at the bug section in the F16 sub forum.

He's talking about quite unique for this module modelling of virtual stick forces vs stick displacement, which works as intended with physical FFB joysticks but yields partially non-realistic results with non-FFB ones. A couple of guys went full drama-queen mode about it and don't feel like flying the plane because of it.

Ironically, it's an offtopic part of this discussion if you want to read, albeit devs don't plan to rework it anyway, not now at least.

Edit: Mike offered a more thorough explanation on the issue here:

There are no core features of the aircraft missing. What is missing is gun camera, a different version of fuel tanks for the F-4F and a different version of ECM pod for the F-4F.

Some features will be expanded on, like for example giving Jester the ability to operate the Pave Spike pod, but the pod is fully operational for yourself both in SP and MC.

We still call it early access, because we want to expand even further, namely with the DMAS upgraded version. This just for clarification.

Apologies, but this is not true as such. We will put a detailed explanation and description of the system up shortly, as we see that many misunderstand it and are thrown off by the animations.

Wow, that sounds interesting. I did not know you plan to add F-4F features. That would be awesome! Will we also get the Matra 250kg bombs and the BL-755? The German Jabos/fighter-bombers carried those.

That would be on ED side to implement in DCS. It certainly would be cool to have! In the meantime we were thinking to make 3x MK82s available on TER. The Luftwaffe used these, too.

I think they are already in. The BL-755 can be carried by the MiG-21 and the MB-339 in DCS. Regarding the Matra 250s, aren't these the ones that the Mirages do carry in DCS?

Oh, are they? I did not know, my apologies, I spent the last year deeply in the Phantom cave. If this is the case we can look to add them.
