The IAG is a most welcome feature.  Thank you.
It's not a feature yet, it's a promise of something that may come, just like the save game feature, new ground troop animations, all promised not yet deliverd.

Hey, don't put it like that. I, for one, find it very useful to know where ED's going, even when it's communicated in relaxed-timeline mode.

And yet, screenshots present the topic from high altitude. I really was looking forward to this map, but I am mainly ground pounder enjoying flying low or low and slow (Apache).

The map in low level is terrible, with parts far worse than the old Caucasus we have.

Actually, we got development pictures, of a third party product and info of a mission editor update. I wasn't even aware they are working on a new Instant Action Generator!

It's a newsletter that is scheduled weekly, like the daily roll call... if there's new things in the pipeline (like the new IAG) they tell us, if not there are updates and reminders of things in progress.

I personally prefer the weekly status updates, to being left in the dark.

Yeah, someone's confusing the newsletter with a change log. Speaking of which. No wiff of an actual update? 😉 I'm particularly after the updated landing gear physics. It wouldn't be sensible to expect ED removing Caucasus altogether but that landing gear thingy for Dora and F-5E (my only 2 active modules) is something I really hope to be released before winter.

I am stoked to see more on that topic.

It's a "News"letter. What do you expect? Made up stories about "exciting news" that never happened?

Maybe -- just maybe -- some people's impatience could be sated -- along with the curiosity of others -- if some more information was provided on plans and roadmaps, like:
1) Vulkan
We need to review/rethink/rewrite 9999 lines of code, we have done 2000 so far. There came up interdependencies with project 2) which affects scheduling, planning, cooperation etc.

2) MT
We need to review/rethink/rewrite 9999+1 lines of code, we have done 5000 so far. There came up interdependencies with project 1) which ...

3) Dynamic Campaign
Design Phase: Completed.
Coding: Need to create AI strategy logic, unit and resource spawning, rework pathfinding, etc. Approximately 10k lines done so far, probably another 10k needed.

4) SuperCarrier
Need you to buy enough modules so we can bribe someone to sneak me on board and get a 1st hand experience for better quality design.

But then, maybe, if ED did this, players would demand more details, would say they could do better (some possibly could), complain about progress speed, have different ideas, etc.

I have never heard of any software developer that shares that kind detailed information with their customers, do you really know any that do?

It's not common, especially in proprietary software for sure. I've seen some progress reports in % in different areas for some DCS module, not sure which one that was though. And the question then is... how realistic are those % numbers. 🙂 As in... the hardest work starts after 90% or so. 😉

The bottom line is: I'm not sure how useful such progress reports would be from ED (e.g. two weeks away for many months, etc.). Probably not much. Or perhaps it would just cause backlash and "are we there yet?" questions.

My point is ED have put lots of coming soon items in these news letters over many years, with maybe a 50% rate of them actually arriving, I'm just saying don't get too excited yet.

Some examples

Vulcan, Supercarrier briefing room, save game option for missions, dynamic weather, dynamic campaigne, etc, plus plenty more I have forgotten about.

None of the things you have mentioned have been forgotten about, they are all in progress, they are huge tasks that take a lot of time.

We share news when we can, usually as we reach mile stones in the development. I get its difficult to wait for these items for some, but please try to understand the teams are working as fast as they can with the resources they have.

thank you

Sorry but I must say some of your promised features take a little too long, I'm sure many would agree that some of the promised stuff is way too long in the cooker. I'm only telling it as it is,sorry if it upsets you.

I'm a PM if my projects took as long as some or yours after releasing info about them, I'd be gone a long time ago, my suggestion would be to not even mention them at all if they are not 3 months from release.

You have made this own rod for your back, no one else has, under promise over deliver is the best moto, ED has never learnt that as far as I can tell in 12 years.

Sorry you feel that way, I wish we could meet your expectation's. All our announced features and projects that are in progress are being worked on, and we need to continue to be patient.

thanks

You didn't get a joke and a hint. You meant Vulkan. Vulcan is a gun, aircraft or e.t. species, not an API.

Anyone who's been around here a while knows that 'soon' in ED parlance means sometime in the next 2-5 years.  It'll be worth it when it arrives though.

Oh... I never cared THAT much about new features and I'm willing to wait. But with this perspective, I now see their bug-fixing schedule in a different light! (The problem is my expectations and less patience for bugs than for features.)
