George cannot see any targets

@stonewall197922 Doesnt seem to effect the AI.

Just did a SP mission on the Iraq map loaded with L's and an AI wingman with the same loadout.

George couldn't spot anything at all but the AI was able to find and destroy all the targets.

Luckily i also had rockets so the mission wasn't totally a bust but a really annoying bug.

So I've done a bit of testing as I was still having issues when setting the fog to Off and manual.

The only way I've been able to get George to put his glasses on consistently is to:

  1. Open any missions with fog set to Auto
  2. Change it to Off and save
  3. Close and relaunch DCS
  4. Start the mission from either missions or the editor. (It will only break again if you run a mission with the fog set to auto)

I noticed that if I had tried to run a mission from the mission editor that previously had the fog set to Auto George wouldn't see anything, even after setting it to off, saving and backing out to the main menu and running from missions.

It only worked consistently if I changed the fog to off, saved and relaunched DCS. Seems as though if at any point a mission has been ran with the fog set to auto it breaks George and you'll need to relaunch DCS in order for him to work again.

Anyway hope this helps someone in the meantime while we wait for a patch.

edit step 4, after reloading George works from either missions or the mission editor so long as a mission with fog set to auto has not been run.

What we need are ED's PC specs incl. Windows build etc.  Then we shouldn't get these problems.

They wouldn't release an update that had such a glaring issue on such a popular module.

I'm disappointed that we haven't seen a hot fix for this yet, vacations perhaps? I would like to think this is a high priority matter worthy of a hotfix right?

It seems to happen for George / Petrovich if the mission fog is set to auto.

I noticed it also in the scenario where the sand storm was set to about 9000 ft.

Sorry giullep.  But you can try turning off fog in the mission editor, save it, restart DCS then the mission again.  This doesn't work for everyone.  Unsure of what constitutes Beta testing these days.

I'm getting a bug where George can "see" late activation objects that aren't yet activated.

I'm having this problem as well. I have some complex missions that can't flow properly when George can see 'invisible' and 'late activation' units.

I don't have a problem with George spotting and targeting, regardless of fog setting.  This may be a separate issue.

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

Why? Fix is to have fog either on OFF or MANUAL and they both work.

This is only possible in the ME for a single mission or i can fix a campaign’s mission..? If yes, how can do?

Is this related to him seeing targets and lasing them, yet still missing them? He was able to target trucks as normal from ~4km away but all four of my missile shots missed.

I've just done the Syria "Scud hunt" mission and thought that it was probably my relative inexperience at using the AH64D that was somehow preventing George from seeing targets.  As this bug has apparently now been sorted, can anyone suggest anything else that might cause George to be less than an effective CPG?

He didn't even spot the three AAA that were shooting at our aircraft, so maybe Specsavers would be part of a solution?  😉

I'd taken a bit of a, shall we say enforced, break earlier this afternoon, after first trying the mission and was just going to give it another go, when I saw this thread.

I flew a different mission successfully yesterday, when George was able to spot all of the potential targets, but this one involves a cold start, so I might just be missing a vital step somewhere.  I'll try again, with a "full fat" start up checklist.

Maybe throwing George his spectacles is part of the start up procedure?  😉

Sorry.  I couldn't resist.  🙂
