What AA method are people using?

Recommended Posts

I've been using DLAA for a while now, as it felt like it gave the nicest looking image quality (for me in VR).

BUT I've now realised it's hiding the black dots of other A/C by blending them into the background or something. So I've gone back to MSAA 4x. This seems to fix the dots so I can actually see others in MP again, but now things are flickering and look pretty crap.

What are other people using? Seems to suck that that whatever option I pick has massive disadvantages.....

same, though i am also using DLSS or visa versa 😉 Antialiasing always comes with disadvantages ... alas but DLAA comes with the least number of disadvantages for me ... what irritates one person another doesn't notice ...

DLAA just makes it so hard to spot stuff.... I could cope with the line shimmering with MSAA but it also seems to make shadows flicker as well?

Maybe I should try no AA at all

I was kinda assuming the MP servers overrode that setting?

Isn't TAA supposed to give the nicest picture on a monitor? Thought I read that somewhere. I know little about all this.

Some of the planes, but all of the maps!

No, TAA is like worse version of DLAA and no machine learning is involved.

Yes. I choose DLAA - dots visibility is not that much of a problem for me but I can't stand the shimmering of MSAA, or the fences and other jaggies. Don't even try none-AA - serious eyes injury risk - and you'll also want that performance with AA then.

The ASW crap is the worst, not related to AA though.

I cope with the single-dot-DLAA spoting issue by telling myself, that real world spoting when the object is the size of a "a single pixel" isn't perfect either.
Atmospheric effects like thermals (or heat flimmering), pollution, haze/dust, cloudes or even a flock of birds (much nearer) between the target and the spotter, can throw of the visual "lock".

I tried a few options last night and they all suck 😄 MSAA flickering, DLAA smearing trails off treetops etc.

I wonder if having a Quest 3 doesn't help as I'm also having to take into account video encoding issues as well....

Probably go back to DLAA and 2pixel dots - would that be bigger/better or worse than auto though?

Yes... it's not perfect.. none of the options are ... but ... it provides the most consistent visibility ...

You can try DLSS swapper to switch to the latest version and try different presets. Some are better with the smearing issue than others.

None are perfect though.

I thought it had updated to include the latest recently?

DLSS is updating on a different schedule than DCS, I‘m not keeping track. I just recently learned about DLSS Swapper and it is just so easy to use that I go with it.

Also changing presets around and comparing is a lot easier.

If DCS is up to date - all the better. 😁

The only way I can get decent results is with high supersampling. I have started using MSAA x2 with QVFR. Set VD to Godlike with 150% in the slider. Then set the peripheral resolution to 0.33. I get good aircraft sporting and only a slight flickering. Overall it's a better experience for Warbirds.

Yeah I'm up at Godlike and 150% in QVFR

DLSS Swapper is good for updating the DLSS dll version. You can set both the preset and also remove DLSS from the HUD/MFDs to remove ghosting from those by adding the below to your C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS\Config\autoexec.cfg file (create it if it doesn't already exist).

DLSS_Preset = 'K'
HUD_MFD_after_DLSS = true

AMD 7800x3D, 4080Super, 64Gb DDR5 RAM, 4Tb NVMe M.2, Quest 2
