Bucic Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Mine are. The vertical one jumps all over the place. It was fine out of the box but its getting worse every passing day. It looks like Logitech haven't abandon their trademark... element1108 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I wish the it's who reviewed this product had of tested it out wih software in their favorite sims. Who cares how it feels when it doesn't work properly. We definitly don't need a $300 horas that breaks my sims vs add to them. I'm sorry for the ones having spent the money and encountering the problems, I'm jut glad I didn't get this (was one thing I wanted this Christmas but in the end felt I didn't need it at this point. No dcs hog yet).
theGozr Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 This Hotas has been reviewed and had a very negative review in this forum.. research, we warned the members but... Fly it like you stole it..
sobek Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 This Hotas has been reviewed and had a very negative review in this forum.. research, we warned the members but... Eh, hold your horses, the negative reviews all mentioned driver problems, none with the hardware, if i'm not mistaken. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Lucas_From_Hell Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I was actually hoping for change in this one, but it seems like it didn't happen. Still, I think they're looking into the right direction. HOTAS + FFB decently implemented - any pilot's dream! You get to actually feel the aircraft. This review isn't entirely negative, however. For those who also enjoy to shoot up some 109s, Spitfires, P-51s, SPADs and Fokkers, it still looks like an interesting choice. From what I've gathered around (no testing, so I can be totally wrong), two facts stand: 1.They need to update the software. 2.Game developers must try to properly implement the features of the stick. The durability factor is relative, and I think we should wait a bit more before scrapping it. I'd be very sad if the G940 became just another HOTAS that could have been great, but was screwed by lack of care by the designers.
Scarecrow Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 It's my opinion that the G940 was in fact first concieved as just being the stick unit but then they decided to add the throttle and pedals to justify the cost so you can bet that all the other components bar the Hall sensors are the cheapest and nastiest available. I've not had any issues with spiking yet but I've got the sinking feeling this thing won't last more than 2-3 years before I'll be looking for a replacement. If you look at the Logitech forum you see similar complaints about alot of the G series peripherals. As for the reviews of the G940 before it was released, most of then seemed more focused on the packaging than its actual in game performance! I feel totally ripped off especially since 4 months down the line the centre slop is still annoying and can only be cured by the game devs who aren't really going to go out of their way to help Logitech peddle this thing. The base buttons colour change can only be manipulated if you are a programmer/scripter or again the game devs decide to take time out of their schedule to help Logitech make their hardware features function correctly. The trims, R1, R2 and the throttles are a best quite innacurate. I'll be sending mine back at the end of this month if there isn't a driver update to cure the innacuracy of the pots adn impose a tighter centre spring effect in game. The whole thing stinks of "get it on shelves for christmas and we'll see about adding functionality later".
MBot Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 ^^^^ About the R1 and R2 wheels. Since you seem very well-informed about the stick, do you know if the wild spikes with throttle movement are common or unique to my stick? I can't seem to get a reply from any users as to whether or not they also experience spiking. And if the spiking is common, is it driver correctable? I have the same.
Jagged Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Thanks for the info regarding the latest offering from Logi, I plan to get one by end of this month but after going through the pages... better wait for G940x
sobek Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I have the same. Yes, today they have started occurring on mine as well. R1 and 2 snap to full when i move the throttle over the afterburner detent. Has anybody been able to figure out whether this is a software or hardware issue? If it's hardware, i'm going for a full refund. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
therion_prime Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 I happily reverted back to my X52. The 940 is ... uhm ... how shall I put it .... teh suk! : Faults: - Ministick not working correctly -> unusable! - Throttle resolution not fine enough (inc-/decreasing in 2-3% steps) - FFB deadzone / sloppyness -> IMHO that is the drivers/firmwares fault and NOT the fault of the game programmers, as stated by Logitek! - Pedals get "sticky" - Rotaries start spiking Other inconveniences: - Too few coolie hats - Pedals have too little travel - Trimwheels on the stick and not on throttle - Trimwheels have no detents - Programming software could be ways better (Foxy someone?) - Where has the good support in the forums gone? - WHERE THE HELL HAS LOGITEK_MARK VANISHED TO? -> Yes, run forrest run! Run away from the 940! A very disappointed customer. My DCS movies:
Maximus_G Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Those guys coded it right. (With respect to the geniuses at Eagle) In that implementation, a displacement of the mini-stick equals a rate of movement of the TDC along that axis; i.e., the further you move the stick, the faster the TDC moves, and once you release the axis, the TDC stays where you put it, and in THAT implementation, the mini-stick works BEAUTIFULLY. Axis behavior of this kind could well be controlled in joystick profilers as well. Moreover, it could be implemented once in a profiler, rather than every time in every game. Algorithmically it's an obvious thing, you can control a coordinate or you can do that with its derivative (speed).
sobek Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) A very disappointed customer. Did you manage to get a refund or didn't you bother with support yet? My rotaries started spiking this week and i want a refund, but support only talked about replacement of the throttle so far (they cautiously avoided my question about refund). Edited January 22, 2010 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Pilotasso Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 First the Throttles rotaries started to spike, I have to take this bizzarre rithual of ingame re-calibration every time I travel the left throttle to full or iddle to make the spikes bearable. Now the throttle hats have started to have random failiures... With this new added problem it is becoming increasingly useless. Good thing I have a spare CH setup. .
Toadster Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Wow. I was very nearly ready to drop over $350 CDN for the G940 for LOFC and especially DCS, but now, I think I just threw up in my mouth by reading this! I currently have a TM Cougar with no rudder pedals, and due to stick slop that I've correct over and over, and not having too huge of a choice out there at the moment, I thought I could get past the Negative reviews that keep piling up in the forums, and go for the G940. I'm willing to spend up to $500 CDN, so I have some options: * Spend cash on the UBER NXT Mod with Hall sensors and buy Saitek rudder pedals (good quality TM Elites are very hard to find)... * Saitek X65: maybe Good for LOFC, but I can't see it for the Shark. Plus having to purchase pedals on top of the high cost of this baby doesn't sit well with me... * Saitek X52 Pro: Acceptable, but probably not for me... * CH Products: after owning the TM Cougar, meh. * A-10 Warthhawg: Willing to spend serious cash on this, but no rudder pedals offered? I don't know.... especially with an unknown release date... Anyhoo, just ranting to add to the G940 fire I guess. Thanks for supplying a shoulder to cry on (or a bucket to throw up in....). S!
159th_Viper Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Wait for the Hog-Stick :) That way you can rely on User-feedback re UberII Nxt vs Hog-Stick......:joystick: Honestly cannot find fault with my Cougar at present modded to Nxt and attendant Throttle Mods and as a Consequence fail to see how it can be Improved Upon.........That said, as certain as Blowflies on Carrion, I'm just Gonna Bite the Big one and Purchase the Hog-Stick in any event :D Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Toadster Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 (edited) For sure Viper, thanks. I even researched the Logitech Forums, and it's a very ugly mine field there at the moment. So, I've decide to do the following: 1). I will purchase a set of Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals as an independent input to go along side my TM Cougar (I fly LOFC and DCS). I have researched CH pedals, but definitely not interested in crunching my nuts and having an uncommanded input every time I have a sip of my Beer. 2). Wait for the TM Warthog to come out and throw down some fat cash for it without even batting an eye! Everyone has their preferences, whether it's CH, TM, Saitek, etc. Even though my TM Cougar can be labour intensive, it is also a setup that can be as lightly or as heavily modded as the user wishes. I've always loved the feel of the cool steel, the heaviness of the unit and centering spring, etc. To me, it "feels" as realistic as one can get. I know it's heavy, because I travel a lot around North America, and I have lugged that beast from coast to coast. Through airline luggage handling test after test, it comes shinning through! I've read that CH has an A-10 cougar, but it's strictly for the Military at this point. Even though it would be well received in any Flight Sim community, it's not in the cards for us as of yet. Saitek's X65 looks very promising, but cutting out the WWII and Helicopter simmers (to be discussed in reviews once it's released) may leave that high priced FF technology to a very "limited" audience. Now if they offered two versions of the X65 (one FF and one normal), I would be very tempted, as the current units looks very industrial (read strong), but really nothing at all like the F-16 feel that they claim. Thrustmaster Warthog: Well, it looks so damn bad ass and solid as hell!!! I may sound biased of course on this, but I have owned a Logitech Wingman Extreme II, a Logitech Force 3D Pro, a Saitek X45 and currently my TM Cougar for the last 2 years. So, too bad Logitech pooped the bed on this unit that will undoubtley be reduced in price, as no one wants to touch it with a 10 foot pole. Overall, it seems that we crave quality, durability, reliability (for god sakes), a complete package (Stick, Throttle, Rudders sold seperatly) and an independent system, to give us the freedom to mix and match HOTAS setups at "our" choosing. I thank everyone personally who has talked me out of purchasing the G940, as I came within a fraction of an inch of buying one this week. Sorry Mr. Mark Starrett, Global Product Marketing Manager for Logitech; I hope your team can single handely fix the mess that is currently the G940... sobek Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 2). Wait for the TM Warthog to come out and throw down some fat cash for it without even batting an eye! Pilotasso Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I am still tunned that Logitech is doing this. Not even a word since january and not a single update since last october. Shame on them. Logitech...never no more. .
Toadster Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Your welcome Toady. Your welcome. :) Of course, all thanks to my fellow Squadron mate Talisman, who sat me down and gave me the scare of a life time for the G940 Facts! And Sobek, I'd rather spend $400 on the TM Warthog and have issues (with community support), than $370 on the G940 and never have timely resolutions... S!
schkorpio Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 so i'm guessing the G940 would be a bad choice for DCS Black Shark ? If the driver issues, slop and trim inaccuracy are fixed in the next release of the drivers, would it be worth waiting for the G940? Sponsored by: http://www.ozpc.com.au
hitman Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 I am still tunned that Logitech is doing this. Not even a word since january and not a single update since last october. Shame on them. Logitech...never no more. ive never known logitech to release anything of quality save for their high end speakers. i dont even buy their mice they suck so bad.
sobek Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 If the driver issues, slop and trim inaccuracy are fixed in the next release of the drivers, would it be worth waiting for the G940? sobek Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 (edited) And Sobek, I'd rather spend $400 on the TM Warthog and have issues (with community support), than $370 on the G940 and never have timely resolutions... Just saying that the early buyers alre almost always in for a bad surprise. Hardly anybody gets it right the first time. But don't get me wrong, i do think that the G940 is abysmal in this regard (from my own experience, thank god i got a refund by the vendor). It just would have been nice to have a proper working FFB stick to be able to fly helos as well. I can't imagine going from FFB back to a non FFB stick like the Cougar Warthog (for flying helos that is). Edited February 27, 2010 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa!
