Guys, lets get him!!!!!!! Arrrrrggggggg ;)

Oh noes, now I've really done it!:cry:I'm outta here!:ufo:

It's ok, I don't have FC2 either. Or any of the lockon series for that matter. You're not alone. ;)

I had a chance to fly the A-10c at E3! I did not get a lot of stick time because MATT was having to much fun...LOL, but I flew it in the patch to/landing and my first thought was this is not the flight model in FC2. It seemed like how I would image flying a big heavy straight wing airplane.

I fly a citation excel(straight wing jet) for a living , so comparing to my knowledge and real experience , I would say Matt and the boys did a hell of a job trying to make you all happy!

As I said in the other topic http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=970172&postcount=109 there will be less and less sense in discussing ED's flight models by regular simmers and GA pilots. Yes, most of average GA pilots too. From my experience they tend to not accept that they are rarely useful in FM discussions ;) One of the very few improvements FMs might benefit is modeling of dynamic nature of atmosphere. Different air mass behavior near ground, cities, forests, water, microturbulences etc. IMO the latter one should get the most care. Modeling of wakes from other planes? Faaar less important...

That's modeling in proximity of players' ACs. Further improvements could introduce dynamic weather. If ED will pick up the challenge of commitment to improve atmosphere modeling there would be limitless amount of time, money and CPU power depending on how much and how precise ED would decide to dig in :)

Basically I feel that we've come to a point were very little can be improved from phenomenas directly related to AC but we're nowhere near making 'ok, there's nothing more we can do' a true statement. The key - atmosphere. The most neglected element in flight simulators - on many occasions the most important IRL.

Yes.

I recall a flaming discussion about wind gusts etc. a year ago or so involving, among others, Weta. Could you drop some highlights of improvements done to atmosphere modeling from Flaming Cliffs 1 times to nowadays, i.e. Warthog times?

Oh, thank goodness!:lookaround: I've had Black Shark for about a year , am I forgiven now?

question re flight model:

is it modelled that the plane flips if you apply too much rudder ?

cheers,

Sorry, but no one from ED will probably answer such a question :) It's like asking FPP makers 'is it modeled that if I shoot in a corridor a bullet will hit not what I aimed at?' where you should ask 'is ricocheting (bullets bouncing of the walls) modeled'? I would rephrase your question re DCS W to, if I read you right, 'are spin characteristics properly modeled in DCS W?'. The answer that question will probably be - yes.

Thanks for the suggestion, but i rather phrase my questions as precisely and directly as possible.

If ed wants to answer, thats great. If not, no big deal and no harm done.

No, no, it's not like that :) You just don't model flight maneuvers and you asked about maneuver. Maneuvers are 'scenarios resultant from forces and momentums modeled' (plus some elementary phenomenas). Take a peak into the How the simulator works topic

thanks viper. nice one ! one more thing: is max rudder input in degrees different on the ground compared to in flight ?

cheers and lang may yer lum reek,

Aye Noti

Have not really had regard to that, but will look and let u know.

Again, at the risk of repeating myself, the Hog is still in the body-shop, so any comments must please not be taken as gospel until verified by the Devs/gone Beta etc etc :)

no drama Viper - thanks for getting back.

i guess a little bit more time in the body-shop and our beloved hog will be ready to roll.

thanks again and cheers,

You mean they have to do math lol !? I feel for ED because that looks a lot like homework.

The credentials that Yo-Yo brings to the table (he's the god of physics and aerodynamics) are impressive. Definitely one of the people you want to thank for the beautiful flight model you are about to see. :)

I don't think there's any number for that, especially since it is fuzzy to define what "working on the flight model" means. For example, does the Q/A work of comparing performance in-game to RL charts and verifying that things match up count?

Similarly, how about the underlying physics modeling and the more specific aspects of the various things that need to get entered into the model?

There's just too many ways that various components and jobs touch each other to give a number on that.

He's the guru that is able to translate reality into mathematical models that are simple enough to run on desktop hardware but complex enough to give accurate simulation, pretty much.
