Tritonal Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I'm having a problem and figured I would post here instead of just creating a new thread. When I go through the training mission for the GAU-8 everything works perfectly but when I do instant action and press "m" to try and cycle to get the gun reticle it cycles through targets instead. Am I doing something wrong here? The gun is read and able to fire I just can't get the reticle up on my screen. Also how do I trim the plane? I might have missed it somewhere but when my joystick is in its neutral position the aircrafts in a constant and annoying climb. I am an A-10 weapons loader with a lot of cockpit time but this seems to be a whole new beast! Thanks for your help in advance!
nomdeplume Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 When I go through the training mission for the GAU-8 everything works perfectly but when I do instant action and press "m" to try and cycle to get the gun reticle it cycles through targets instead. That means you're playing in game mode, i.e. simplified avionics. The training missions probably override this and are occurring in 'real' or simulation mode. If you want to play in sim mode - go to the options screen, select the gameplay tab, and disable the 'game avionics mode' and optionally 'game flight mode'. If you want to play in game mode, you might need to do some experimenting. The M key in sim mode is bound to the HOTAS Master Mode Control Button. That control has no default binding in game mode, so perhaps it's not really needed. Instead 'M' is bound to 'auto lock on next surface target'. You can use the 'D' key in game mode to cycle weapons. Also how do I trim the plane?Use the commands "Trim: ..." - the default keybindings for both game and sim mode are Right Control plus , . / ; -- I'd suggest mapping them to your HOTAS though since you use them pretty much constantly.
Tritonal Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 wow thanks so much for the fast reply! I had game deselected in the options but I still had game avionics mode selected. That fixed the problem perfectly!! Now I have a ton of other stuff to figure out but its all a matter of trial and error now. Thanks for the help

rddaos Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I'm a beginner and I cannot figure out how to engage the speed brakes. According to the controls menu, B + left shift or B + left control should engage the brakes, but when I press that combination, i don't see any speed flaps opening or closing. Any ideas? Thanks...
ED Team Olgerd Posted May 8, 2011 ED Team Posted May 8, 2011 (edited) I'm a beginner and I cannot figure out how to engage the speed brakes. Just press and hold the keys - speedbrakes can be extended (and retracted) partially. IRL the 'retract' position of the speedbrake switch is latched, but the 'extend' is not. Machinist Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 When the JTAC is marking targets with IR, I can request SNAKE or STEADY. I'm not sure what snake means, and I don't know what the advantages of each mode is.
sobek Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 When the JTAC is marking targets with IR, I can request SNAKE or STEADY. I'm not sure what snake means, and I don't know what the advantages of each mode is. IIRC snake means he will wobble the beam so you can see which end is the JTAC and which one is the target. There seem to have been incidents where pilots dropped ordnance on the wrong end of the beam. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Machinist Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Gotcha.:) Now do I need to don the NVGs to see the beam? I was just letting the TGP find it for me.
sobek Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Now do I need to don the NVGs to see the beam? Yes. Note that in 0.7 there is a glitch with antialiasing of the beam. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
fael097 Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 ok, question: on mission 1, JTAC told me to wait for incoming data, but the data never showed on my TAD. weirdly enough, i got the data in mission two, without inputting anything. do you have to set your group id and own id to receive jtac marks on tad? or anything else? The .ogg and everything else is part of one zip with the miz extension I believe. It appears that mission files are being renamed to .zip (to fool the upload script I imagine) but are not actually a zip file. Winzip tries to unpack them into their components which is not what you want. Rename the .zip to .miz and then just put them into the mission directory. It confused me, as well, the first time I ran into one like that.
