roob Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 yah night mission i tried Nv goggles and i set the TGP to laser search and nothing TGP laser is not IR. You can, however, see the IR pointer JTAC uses to mark targets at night. My DCS stream [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Past broadcasts, Highlights Currently too much to do... PhoenixBvo Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 TGP laser is not IR. Incorrect. From the manual (p. 81): The Litening AT targeting pod incorporates both a daytime Charged Coupled Device (CCD) TV camera and a Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) camera that are used to acquire and track targets day and night. Also built into the pod is a laser designation and ranging system and an infrared pointing device (IR Pointer). This is actually a laser at an infrared frequency. roob Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 (edited) Incorrect. From the manual (p. 81): This is actually a laser at an infrared frequency. I stand corrected. But he still can't use the laser, or "laser search" and expect to see an IR beam since the laser itself is not IR. Edit: To activate the IR pointer, you need to change OSB 7 on the TGP screen to IR or BTH. Page 327. sobek Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 So just out of curiosity? How can i see the laser the JTAC uses? You can't, the only thing that you can see is the IR pointer with nv at night. The laser is outside the spectrum of even the nv. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

I believe you when you say they are nowhere near speedbrakes, with figures, but the man actually struggled with a unilateral 'hung' CBU. What we can both learn, is that one CBU on half the plane is a nasty thing. But thanks for the figures anyway. WMMangus Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 I hope I'm doing this correctly and not interrupting, but I'd like some help with flight control profiles for the Logitech G-940 system. I've downloaded RedBaron's profile but for the life of me I cannot find where to put it. Does it go into the Logitech file or DCS A-10C and which directory? I've tried setting my controls using the Options menu in DCS A-10 but sometimes they don't "take" especially any type of roll or pitch trim commands. Thanks is advance.
WMMangus Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Edit 12/21/12: Had some time between doctor's appointments today and found the thread identifying the trim/FFB issue with the G940 etc. Seems the problem is being looked at. Disregard my post.
Spirit X Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 What a jolly useful thread to have around. I have a question please... When using the CDU, you know the Divert page (the one you can view on the MFCD by pressing Function and then 2 on the UFC) where you choose an airfield to set as the current steerpoint? And once chosen, it gives you the frequencies you need to set the radio, ILS and TACAN? Well how do you get back to that screen with all the frequency data? If you choose the same airfield on the Divert page again, it does nothing. Is there a page where you can just look through the frequencies for nearby airfields? I wanted to see which ones had TACAN frequencies and which ones didn't. Also, I'm assuming that if I set my TACAN frequency and then choose TACAN on the navigation panel, whatever I may have chosen on the Divert page is then irrelevant because the HSI and HUD are now setting the steerpoint to the TACAN. Is that right? Thanks.
Keithustus Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Hi, I'm new to DCS & A-10C and just got it on the holiday Steam sale. What hardware is necessary to enjoy the game? Reading several reviews, watching lots of videos, and reading some of these forums have gotten me very excited to play, but I don't have a joystick at all and the last flight sim I played was ancient. So what do I need to do? Are there any joysticks other than Thrustmaster Warthog that will make learning the game possible and easy, or must I go all in and buy that awesome beast? Apparently I need to get some kind of track IR or webcam tracker, right? How about pedals and things? I've never used anything but keyboard, mouse, and (crappy $30) joystick.
Yurgon Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Well how do you get back to that screen with all the frequency data? Good question. I've had that problem once or twice. My workaround was to select another airfield and then select the original one once again. I wanted to see which ones had TACAN frequencies and which ones didn't. I'm not aware of such a page, but I'm still a CDU noob, so don't quote me on this. :) Also, I'm assuming that if I set my TACAN frequency and then choose TACAN on the navigation panel, whatever I may have chosen on the Divert page is then irrelevant because the HSI and HUD are now setting the steerpoint to the TACAN. Is that right? Partly. As far as I know, TACAN influences the HSI (Bearing pointer 1 and Range Indicator, if applicable) and the ADI Bank Steering Bar, but setting NMSP to TACAN does not change the waypoint (or any other data) in the HUD.
Yurgon Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Are there any joysticks other than Thrustmaster Warthog that will make learning the game possible and easy, or must I go all in and buy that awesome beast? Well, if A-10C is going to get you hooked, you're going to want to buy the HOTAS Warthog anyways. And if it doesn't get you hooked, it's probably because you weren't flying with the Warthog. So best get it right away. :D Apparently I need to get some kind of track IR or webcam tracker, right? How about pedals and things? I've never used anything but keyboard, mouse, and (crappy $30) joystick. I've read about people that have flown with just keyboard and mouse and were quite proficient with it. Since you've already bought A-10C, maybe you should just get a cheap joystick and see how it feels. The downside is that you'll have to memorize lots of keyboard combinations. If you feel this sim (or any other combat flight sim) could really get you hooked, the most agreed upon order of importance concerning input hardware looks something like this: 1. HOTAS (Warthog if you can, X-52 is very good, others also receive lots of praise) 2. Headtracker (FaceTrackNoIR or TrackIR, for example) 3. Rudder pedals, if not included in #1 A HOTAS setup is, in my opinion, pretty much required. Headtracking, that's actually a real game-changer. But without HOTAS, there's no value in it, that's why I'd rate a HOTAS more important. Rudder pedals are a nice addition for A-10C but really shine if you decide to go for Black Shark. There's tons of other stuff you can throw you cash at if you've got any left, but with the above, you'll have a very solid base.
RingLord42 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Hey im new to the DCS A-10C Warthog game and have been having some troubles with the training missions. For some reason, either in the middle of the mission, or mainly when tasked to go to the next way point, it stops giving me the next instructions after. I've downloaded the latest patch but it didnt seem to work. Is there any way to fix this?
Aerthorn Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 The training missions are broken, there is quite a bit of discussion on the forum if you search for it, i believe for example that the nav mission tells you to turn to waypoint 4 way before you reach waypoint 3, just keep flying to waypoint 3 and then turn and it will continue. Something about the speed of the aircraft being modified between versions and the training missions not being updated as the talking is time triggered but the advancement is location triggered (could be wrong but you get the point). Many people dont think this is a major issue, i personally think it should be a priority fix. People are still buying the game (like me and you) and such a fundemental flaw as the training missions being broken could really turn some people off given the importance of the training missions. Meanwhile, i can actually fly the thing, definitely worth turning a blind eye to small bugs and continuing with a-10c. Sorry cant give more detail but a search of the forum will explain better.
RingLord42 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Ok I understand. Thanks for the info. I guess I can always go on YouTube to find out how to do something. I'm a huge A-10c fan, so this won't stop me from trying to master the game.

PhoenixBvo Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Read the manual :) On the TAD (the map screen on your MFD) move the cursor over your wingman's symbol and press TMS (Target Management Switch on the stick) forward short to "hook" your wingman. Now you'll see a dashed box in your HUD and dashed lines showing its direction emanating from the TVV (refer to manual page 394 for symbology details). Boston87 Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Isn't their a way to mark targets by pressing tms up or something and then you can cycle threw these targets? So my question is how do i cycle threw targets. I can mark them A,B,C D but cant find out what button cycles threw them
Yurgon Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Isn't their a way to mark targets by pressing tms up or something and then you can cycle threw these targets? So my question is how do i cycle threw targets. I can mark them A,B,C D but cant find out what button cycles threw them You can create Mark Points with TMS right short. The first Mark Point will be labeled "A", the second "B" and so on. Mark Point "Z" is automatically set to the last position a weapon is used on. With the AAP Steer Point Dial set to "MARK", you can then cycle through the Mark Points just as you would cycle through waypoints if the dial was set to "FLT PLAN" (ie STEER rocker on UFC, or DMS up/down short with HUD as SOI). If I'm not mistaken, the same mode can also be activated by pressing the UFC "FUNC" button followed by UFC 8/"MARK".
Katalepsis Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Firstly hello, just bought A-10C retail DVD from Amazon and already love it. I finally completed all the training missions and did extremely well (fast learner and love flight sims for many years now) and just started the first campaign mission. I am getting spammed with white font combat chatter along and down the left side of my monitor and it's driving me almost literally insane, how do I "wipe/clear" the mission combat chatter and/or prevent it from publishing so much (and for so long) on my screen? Otherwise I'm doing great, my wingman and I and the other joint allied forces destroyed nearly everything for Elm and Razor although my wingman had to finally eject. I'm about to land but HAD to pause and register here to get this damn allied forces chatter off my computer monitor, it's literally covering the entire left 1/3rd of my screen and thus my MFCD (etc). Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to joining the online community once I sharpen my skills and complete the stand alone single player campaign! I'm sure I'll have more questions by then, including another one I'm ready to ask about how to patch the game from my retail version (do I have to patch every single one in linear order or is there a coverall patch/update that will get my retail DVD up to speed)? Afaik there is no ingame option to turn it off (as for whatever reason you can't access the options from anywhere else than the main screen). You might "cheat" it by changing your radio frequencies though. [edit] Maybe there's a shortcut/key combo to turn it off though, not sure.[/edit] Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to joining the online community once I sharpen my skills and complete the stand alone single player campaign! Just download DCS World ( http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?ProductId=21&end_pos=137&scr=product&lang=en ) + the A-10 module ( http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?scr=product&ProductId=8&end_pos=136&lang=en ) from the DCS homepage, install those and you're up2date. Keep your A-10 retail version installed for starters. Once you start your first mission (training will suffice) from DCS World you'll be asked to register your A-10 copy - as long as you have your retail version still installed your key will be already registered there. Once you've done that you'll be free to uninstall the retail version. Edited January 17, 2013 by Teiwaz
Katalepsis Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Thank you, definitely looking forward to some more input about the on-screen radio chatter spam along the left 1/3rd of my monitor during combat missions...hopefully some of the salty sea dogs here will chime in soon w/some answers on how to eliminate it as it's almost game breaking.
