I love FSX. I've got a recently released free version of a payware F15C/D/J/DJ Eagle pack made by Iris. If the F15C in the LOMAC series had more realistic flight dynamics like the Iris F15, the LOMAC would be perfect....I'm sick of having to use afterburner just to maintain 400kts at altitude in LOMAC.

Not sure how much more or less accurate the F15 Iris model is compared to LOMAC F15, I don't think it's much better, Iris is no A2A or VRF. Besides you can't kill migs and SU's in FSX ;).

DCS F15 and we'll talk flight dynamics ;)

It's a mixed bag... When it comes to civillian aviation MSFS (FSX) has got a lot to offer, however:

FSX = S.U.C.K.S.

S = Squeamish flight models (especially military jets!!!)

U = Unsuitable for pilots who actually know how to fly an airplane

C = Cloudy... (Ok, I'll admit...purdy clouds :P , +1 for FSX)

K = Kaput netcode

S = Shocking amounts of people who think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread

That about sums it up for me! ;)

VRS Superhornet has a pretty good FM so not all FSX aircraft are that bad. My own thoughts its an entertaining sim espeically if you try out the missions etc. Theres more to FSX than just flying around because of that. With the VRS Superhornet and the Tacpack you'll have a DCS level of complexity F/A-18E Superhornet with combat.:thumbup:

I know how to fly a Cessna and a Piper Warrior, and the sim isn't unsuitable for me.....

The only two complaints I have about FSX are that the nighttime scenery sucks, and clouds make my framerate drop like a rock.

That's 400kts indicated. Surely you realise at high altitudes your groundspeed is much higher (look at the indicator on your radar display) and the apparent 'low speed' is because the low atmospheric pressure reduces the absolute lift at any angle of attack compared to lower altitudes.

One of the best fixes in FC2 is that you can cruise at medium and high altitudes at Mil power rather than Max power when in the Eagle.

Real Environment Extreme (REX), Ground Environment Extreme (GEX), and Ultimate Terrain X (UTX) make FSX so much better and realistic. Especially at night.

I however, think FSX is more trouble than it's worth, even with SP2, it's quite buggy and crashes like crazy for me on Windows 7 x64.

Apparently not in my FC2...

That may be true at 30,000ft, but not at 15,000.

I recall on one particular mission (Naval Games), I'm required to cruise at 6,000 at 450kts. In order for me to maintain 450kts, I have to maintain 100% power....doesn't make any sense to me. A 737 can cruise at only 70% power.....

Certainly yes at 15,000. 300 KIAS indicated at 15,000 feet is around 400 KTAS. Just checked using the wonderful Wolfram Alpha.

Quick formula if someone wants it:

TAS = IAS * [1 + (Altitude/1,000 * .02)]

(Altitude in feet).

Or, TAS = IAS + 2% per 1,000' altitude.

Has anyone tried HTR - alternative helicopter flight dynamics for FSX?

http://www.hovercontrol.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=53;t=17769;st=0

I've been using it for a while and it's really something good. I'd say it's almost as good as XPlane of Black Shark (I'm not a real life pilot though).

This looks good empeck, have you played more with HTR? I'l going to try it out this weekend I think. I would like to have better physics for my Apache :D

EDIT: On the other hand, there is conflicts using the FSUIPC and having the X-52 joystick. Don't want that problem ;)

on the subject of the VRS Hornet they are working on a system that will allow you to actualy affect objects placed in the FSX world, you will be able to blow stuff up and receive damage from ground fire ect.

There is already a SAM/AAA system in place that will (if its turned on) attempt to kill you and fail systems that are hit but waht they will be adding soon is the ability to see those as physical object that can be shot at with HARMS.

Also there will be the ability to call for refueling tankers at specific points.

I highly recommend the Acceleration version of FSX as it will allow you to launch the bug from carriers. The carrier will show its own ILS/TACAN that will move with the ship. A small program called AIcarriers will alow you to move the carrier and give it directions realtime so you can do Trapping/Launching anywhere you like thats got water. :smartass:

Really the only thing thats a big missing is the FLIR as it cannot be modeled in FSX. and there is no wingman unless you fly online.

There has been talk of a FLIR, not sure though if anyone has found a way around it yet or not.

Well if anyone can work out how to do it its the guys at VRS Simulations :)

They have alot of talent.

Someone educate me on the FSX scene, please.

Why were the team sacked?

Microsoft never really gave a good explanation with respect to why they closed ACES Studio's. They generally stated that it was part of financial restructuring (if memory serves me correct). My personal opinion on the matter for what it's worth: They want to integrate the franchise with Games for Windows Live and cut out third-party dev's so that they can have a bigger slice of the DLC pie.

yeah I think so - particularly since now they're developing MS Flight in house (I think) which leads me to believe that they never really intended to get rid of the MS FS series - just make it in house to control all aspects of its earnings.

Another interesting fact. A Microsoft Compatible PC in the early days were measured by it's ability to run MS Flight Simulator.

With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.

I think FSX is great, it consumes majority of my flight time although if it wasn’t for the third party developers I would have probably forgotten of it’s existence.

I’ve read some comments from the real world airline pilots about the FSX and it appears to be a mixture of views where some say there is nothing like doing it for real others might say it’s good for IFR practice, but it’s not always clear what they fly in FSX and I couldn’t be arsed to ask.

No one has mentioned the VATSIM, perhaps the squawk is on standby.
