asparagin Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I use the Cockpit mod that uses the old X2 cockpits --> http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=254635 I like this cockpit mod a bit more: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=249168&highlight=shawns It doesn't have so much cockpits but it has "dynamic displays for ship status, shields, speed and even video transmissions" And as a suggestion: I find that mouse control is way easier that joystick (of course the immersion drops a bit). I mostly use the cursor-mouse steering. GGTharos Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Darn ... that DOES remind me of elite :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Total Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 1986 Firebird Software - Commodore 64 Man I played the living ehck out of that game when I was a teen lol! And yeah - I've played all of the X-Series :D Tried like hell to get into Eve Online, but the 3rd person aspect of it just drove me nuts.
element1108 Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Okay so I started out as a Terran Defender. I made it until the mission where you're suppose to scan and track "Pirate Nova" (Like third mission in maybe). I thought for some reason my ship would scan whatever ship I was close to for a period of time, but I could never scan his ship so the mission circulates. I've been told not to engage and although I don't engage the pirate nova I do engage the orther "red" ships once he jumps out of the area. Here is where the mad cash flow started. The ships most of the time don't shoot back so they're basically sitting ducks. There are about 5 or 6 in the area and I attack each one to the point where I hope they "abandon" or I just get the kill. Seeing how each ship is worth about 250,000 credits damaged it's more profitable that you claim them vs kill them. One in every 4 or 5 seem to abandon ship and I claim these as my own and order them to the nearest ship yard. Depending what contents they are carrying I would transfer their cargo (one had 5x 5MJ shield generators, fighter drones etc). I've been getting between 150-250,000 credits per ship with hulls down to 8%. One i decided to keep as my own and repaired it with the earnings I received (like 300,000 in hull repair) and it was immediately valued at 1,300,000 credits. It's taking advantage of a loop hole that's for sure, but it's fun and it's made me very proficient with ordering and the menu system while making cash :) Fun game, thanks for the recommend.
leafer Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Yeah, it's a gem once you know what to do but I almost gave up after only an hour of not knowing what the heck to do. Glad you enjoy it and you're already way ahead of me. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
sobek Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Silly me, what a difference the mk1 fight software makes. :megalol: Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
ShalashakaDS Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 (edited) IIRC, if youre the pilot, none, but if you set a universe or sector trader you'll need this if you want your ships to fire back if attacked. Particulary, i think its better to not give any trader this upgrade, because there are greater chances they will stay and engage in a lost fight instead of just runing for safety. Theres a long time i dont play this game so my answer may be a little off, and i hope i havent wasted a post because your smiley left me wondering if this was an actual question... lol Edited September 30, 2010 by ShalashakaDS
TeeJay82 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 I dont know how many times ive gotten myself killed while claming ships early in the game during combat :P but the greedy bastard in me get what he deserves
element1108 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Greed bigtime, I made that mistake last night. Shot up a illegal arms boron trading ship (was default as red so I attacked). He ejected at 1% hull and I spent 20 mins or so repairing it from my space suit. At 100% I sent him to the ship yard to see what I could get for it. While waiting more pirates came in. I claimed another L and headed for the ship yard. The phone rang, I answered and while docking hit the acceleration button instead of the slow down button and BOOM! Crashed....lost all my gains before my last save. Won't make that mistake again ;)
leafer Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 Yes, save often. Apparently, space pirates like to vulch. This happened to me and he managed to killed 'something that made me lose 87% engine power' with one pass. Grrr... ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
arality Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 For those that have not seen this game yet, or never played the older ones, they are releasing all the games from the X series in the X Superbox. It's on sale at steam for $35.99 a steal of a price! http://store.steampowered.com/sub/6330/
sobek Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 IIRC, if youre the pilot, none, Exactly what i thought, but in fact, not true. The MkI enables your ship to automatically slightly reposition the laser aimpoints, so it's some slight form of auto aim that makes you fire with a lot more precision. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Rusty_M Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 (edited) is TC a lot better than Reunion? Edited October 10, 2010 by Rusty_M The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming

Guess ive spent to much time in merchants running away from the fight to notice that one... Thanks for the clarification.
Ice9ine Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Hi guys, For those that have played Blackshark or Warthog, how does TC compare in terms of difficulty starting from sctratch for all games please? I know TC is deep, but is it hard as such? I found Warthog quite difficult but i dont have TrackIR etc... Cheers. BKLronin Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 It´s not that hard but you will need a lot of patience until you got some credits you can really deal with. I miss the Cockpits from X2 a lot. It feels like you´re just commanding some kind of ui through the space sometimes. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

It feels like you´re just commanding some kind of ui through the space sometimes. You can get cockpits in x3 using mods. Just look on their forum, it's hard to miss. SNAFU Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 (edited) Here you might find the "X-tended Mod". A community project well advanced, giving the game a new dimension. Also look for the CODEA script. A modification enabling you to crew pilots and assign them jobs in a carrier fleet. Great thing to watch a self-maintianing fleet of capital ships spilling out 50 fighters to charge head on for a Xenon Patrol... :) PS: For us Germans, you find also many hints and useful stuff here. sobek Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 ^^^^ I'm totally at loss what that has in the least to do with X3. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Succellus Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Waiting for X-Rebirth here... I went for the full pack when Steam sold it for 2 peanuts. I love free form games -> do what you want the way you want at the time you want. Sometimes your freedom is dazzling and you get half paralyzed, but once your get into the spirit its awesome. Another in the style very interesting game in the same way that have more features than X3: newtonian physic, multiple USB controler support, track ir support 6dof, planetary descent, cockpit, joystick oriented game, free form and blah blah blah... is Evochoron Mercenary (its seems one guy did the game, totally independent.) http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmercenary/index.htm IMHO its more oriented to space flight than X3. And newtonian physics in space bring a whole new sets of manoeuvers (something wrong here to lazy to check spelling) and tactics when engaging someone(s). HaF 922, Asus rampage extreme 3 gene, I7 950 with Noctua D14, MSI gtx 460 hawk, G skill 1600 8gb, 1.5 giga samsung HD.
