Upchuk Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Hey guys, hope this is in the right spot. but if you like X3 and Babylon 5, there has been a group doing a TOTAL conversion for X3 into the B5 universe. asparagin Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 LOL, so the sims and DCS are closely related because they both take place on earth? :) Noo.. It's because of the green diamond in sims on their head and in A-10 on the hud... If I am not the master of comparisons! 98abaile Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I've been playing X games for a long time, is anyone still interested in some starting tips for traders in X3TC? (I haven't read the whole thread, so sorry if someone has already done this)
Conure Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 LOL, so the sims and DCS are closely related because they both take place on earth? :) They are all related because they all take place on computers :D Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
winz Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 (edited) I've never played any of the X games, but they sure do look interesting. If I would jump into the franchise, which sequel should I choose? Will I miss anything important if I skip the first two parts, and move just to X3? :) Edited July 13, 2011 by winz The Valley A-10C Version Revanche for FC 3
sobek Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 IMHO the story is not really why you play any game of the X-series, they all feel "stiff" and artificial in this regard, so i don't think you will miss a lot if you jump straight into x3 (apart from hours of gameplay vamping up your economy, which you will not be able to carry over from x2 to x3). I think it is safe to say you can start with x3. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
winz Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 cool, thanks for the answer :) The Valley A-10C Version Revanche for FC 3
some1 Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 X3 Fans check out MaSS EffeCT 3 If you like story based shooter gaming like in COD4 sinlge player, mixed with RPG on a StarWars scale then try that. Another thing is the storyboard in ME3 is not linear. Depending on your actions, even down to detail, the story is changing. Graphics are insane. http://masseffect.bioware.com/ *This game has not been released *This movie is CGI, not gameplay *Graphics are typical for multiplatform game using Unreal Engine. Not bad, not great, should run good on most computers. Hardware: VPForce Rhino, FSSB R3 Ultra, Virpil WarBRD, Hotas Warthog, Winwing F15EX, Slaw Rudder, GVL224 Trio Throttle, Thrustmaster MFDs, Saitek Trim wheel, Trackir 5, Quest Pro
Total Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Actually, check out Steam for the X Superbox deal. The story, for someone just entering the X world, is kind of important. It's also a really well developed, open-ended single player story campaign. The Superbox will start you off at the very first X. The graphics are dated, but the story is there.
Succellus Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 However be carefull , i was very frustrated when having hotas discovered X 1 2 and 3 have very weak support for peripheral hardware. USB controls... only 1 allowed. And remember X1 is 97. By the cheer amount of playing i would recomend you to go to the last X title (then if you get hooked regress), or even better (if you have patience) wait for X rebirth, its planned at years end and will have 0 relation to old titles in storyline. There will probably have references but as the title says and also the dev, its a Rebirth. Go visit the egosoft site, if i would give a second counsel. Total Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 That's the great thing about the X series, it will wait for you as there's no time limit or time constraints. Pop into a station and it automatically saves the game. Close it and go back when ya can. Hell, I haven't launched it in six months, but when the X bug bites - I'm sucked into it bad enough to where I won't play much else until the bug subsides lol!
Rusty_M Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Was playing TC last night having bought it for GBP5 in the steam sale. Great stuff. Feels much nicer than reunion. I might be very stupid, but after doing the little DLC thing, I can't figure out how to start the plot up. There must be someone I have to go and talk to. I don't really want to do the plot, but it annoys me that I don't know where to go to start when I do want to. The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming
USAF77 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 The pics remind me of Eve, which I tried out once. The graphics are so pretty I spent a week just zipping about at light speed. But the whole storyline behind the game was just to strange and convoluted. That and there is so much to learn and very little support. Lol, I remember when Pong first came out when I was in High School. I guess a guy my age would rather sit in a Spit, a Sopwith Camel, or an M1 tank then popping thru worm holes 100,000 years from now. Those futuristic universes sure seem popular to an awful lot of gamers nowadays tho. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Lead, Follow, or get out of the way"

There is no plot per se, you just receive a message to investigate a certain sector and that is pretty much it - I got the message a couple of minutes after I started the game, maybe you overlooked it?

Make sure you start with a character that has the plot enabled as well... My favorite way to start is "Bankrupt Assasin," but that means no plot and no contact with the terrans.
Rusty_M Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Investigating the sector was fine. I'm talking about the main story of the game. Conure Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Get X3:Terran Conflict - no point getting any of the others. It's an incredible game but you will spend hours perfecting fleet logistics and staring at figures...Then using spreadsheets to work out profit margins. It's effectively an empire building in space, not a space sim.
