WarriorX Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 To those lucky ones that already have a TM Warthog, I hope you can give all of us waiting for ours, some information. Seeing as there will be some people here that will be unplugging there current joystick/HOTAS, and plugging in a TM Warthog in the near future, I have a few questions. Will DCS A-10 automatically reconfigure the controller assignments for the Warthog or do we have to start from scratch? Did anyone at ED or the Beta Testers have a TM Cougar with Simped F16 rudder pedals that connect via the gameport on the Cougar base? If yes, did DCS A10 have any problems with the Target Software combining the Warthog with the Simpeds via the Cougar base? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Is that you John Wayne?.......Is this me?" MTFDarkEagle Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I cannot answer your last 2 questions, but I can your first one: the TM Warthog will be plug and play. I.e. plug it in, everything works in dcs a-10c Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
kylania Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I'm gonna miss the little toggle buttons below the stick that my X-52 has. I'm also going to miss a few months rent paying for the beast, but I'll have it! :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
ESzczesniak Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I'm gonna miss the little toggle buttons below the stick that my X-52 has. I'm also going to miss a few months rent paying for the beast, but I'll have it! :) Well, I'm not going to miss a single thing about my X-52. First off, you get the whole autopilot, flaps, etc panel on the throttles with the TM Warthog. ...And I'm just sick and tired of my X-52. It looked great with all of those buttons. What I didn't realize is how annoying it's very loose centering mechanism and very jittering position sensors would get. Oh well, it's nearly over. 1
Frogfoot1606687865 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 The only thing I'll miss about the X52 Pro is the Slider on the throttle - I always have it mapped to the zoom function. It makes zooming in to look at the controls/HUD or scanning the horizon so effortless. Can anyone think of a way to get this functionality with the Warthog HOTAS? Steve Davies Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 As Sobek says, the ED testers who have a Warthog are under NDA. However, I believe it is public knowledge that Warthog is made to work with DCS: A-10C straight out of the box. Oh, and I have the Warthog throttle 'friction' slider mapped to the Zoom View function - works perfectly. Steve Davies https://www.10percenttrue.com

Echonomix Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I've never had a hotas before. What is the friction slider supposed to do? Does it changed the amount of force needed to move the throttles? Mad Dog 7.62 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Since the Warthog has a an "extra" pinky switch thats absent on the A-10C, hopefully it can be used as a Shift Modifier to allow us to program extra functions to the HOTAS without changing any of the default ones? Steve Davies Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I've never had a hotas before. What is the friction slider supposed to do? Does it changed the amount of force needed to move the throttles? . IRL, it increases/decreases the friction applied to the throttles - so they move with greater ease or difficulty, according to your preference. With Warthog, this very conveniently located dial is actually an axis of its own, which means you can assign it to any function that can be paired with an axis (zoom view, rudder, brakes etc.). Meanwhile, the Warthog's actual friction control is located elsewhere. Very clever thinking. Steve Davies https://www.10percenttrue.com

Ok, so in real life it does what I expected it to do, but from what you are saying it sounds like the TM HOTAS does not actually do that? It doesn't change the friction since it is just another electronic axis for the computer to use, but you are saying there is a different adjuster for the actual physical friction on the throttle unit somewhere? Like under it or something? Yea I was staring at the WRTHOG and looking at what I could use for the zoom in and out, great I was going to use that one too. rocketeer Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 the TM Warthog is so expensive, but no point of me building an A10C pit and then use the X52, which by the way is giving me big problems. When I plug in the X52 the mouse pointer starts to run down the screen! The later once I activate a profile the mouse button on the throttle keeps sending out the keyboard command for the down position. sometimes when i hold it up for a while it stops. I googled and it says it's not software bug but hardware problem, so now patch is going to fix it. Now isn't that a very valid reason for a change? My A10C cockpit thread
Teej Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 but you are saying there is a different adjuster for the actual physical friction on the throttle unit somewhere? Like under it or something? Correct. The TM Warthog's friction control is a wheel on the top of the unit (same face as all the switches), at the front end. It rolls left / right. They did a real nice job with the tension on the throttles. I fly mine with the wheel turned to "full loose". There's still sufficient tension that the throttles won't move on their own. If it's what you like, you could turn the tension up a _lot_ and still have the ability to make fine throttle adjustments (ie no 'stiction'). "Tank! I need a program for a TM Warthog!"
