Cool pics, for an iPhone.

You can tell it is commercial due to the altitude, as I never got that high out there.

As to the Nellis theater, that is pretty much all I fly, as I know the area from years ago,

and it is a good place to wring things out.

As to the psych visits, the wife has been trying to get me committed for sim addiction

for over twenty years. Dodged the bullet thus far... :D

Yeah same here Spectre! Whenever I drive up to the house I always look for the guys in white coats....I figure she would have had me committed by now!

Great shots StrongHarm!

:) Glad you guys like it

Yeah great work lucky!

I love that map for night missions. There is nothing like touching down at Nellis about 15 minutes after dusk!

I've only flown on the Nellis range twice so far (not much time to use the A-10 due to work). I noticed though that the city isn't populated, probably for good reason - fps, blowing up buildings on the strip... but was wondering if the Strip will be added

I'm not in the know on this one, but I think it would be safe to assume that ED will be adding the appropriate ground objects and buildings

I'm fairly impressed with Nellis, although I am hoping that they improve the elevation around the hoover dam. I wanna do some canyon/dam bombing runs. Dam Busters style!

It's such a shame that no-one has been able to provide us with decent looking terrain so far in DCS products.

That's the one area that really lets the DCS sims down.

Some of you might not care for ground detail but it makes all the more real for me...

I've often had the feeling that I've just visited somewhere I've flown over in FSX, I've never ever had the feeling that I was somewhere in DCS products, if you know what I mean.

I love Black Shark and I'm trying to get into the A-10 but the terrain as it is sucks and after looking forward so much to Nellis, I was sorely disappointed that it's such low resolution.

Look at products, freeware products, like the scenery from Bluesky Scenery for FSX. It's free and it's 1m/pixel and Nevada looks magnificent.

Why can't the team developing the Nellis terrain also get hold of quality imagery like this?

Fingers crossed something changes soon.

That BlueSky as for freeware product looks really nice.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

the problem with the nevada terrain is the large pixelized dark and light areas. they're really obvious. i think it's best to blend the angular pixelated egdes of dark patches for a more organic look.

The Nevada textures are 1024x1024, which is more than the Georgia terrain (512x512). ED is still tweaking the terrain engine since it is not good at color contrasting/clashing at low altitude.

Am I right LB9?

holy shizzle the weather in that cloud mod thingy is amazing! But on the topic of outerra, it is good but i dont think it looks as good as DCS tbh, brilliant from ground level but a little weird when you get up high

This is a picture of a 2048x2048 tile without noise. Note this is even higher resolution than Nevada, but still not detailed enough to look convincing down low without proper blending/etc.

Sorry T-Bone, but if that's 2048, then either the DCS engine is more messed up than I thought or something is wrong with your image.

I've developed 1024, 2048 and 4096 images for FSX and none of them look that bad.

I know it depends on the source material but even Tileproxy can do better than this and that utility is converting downloaded tiles on the fly and rendering them in game.

Someone who knows how, and I wish I did, really needs to sort out the ground textures and weather in DCS products. These are such fantastic study sims with incredibly detailed aircraft models that are completely let down by a terrain engine from the eighties...

Come on DCS, fix your code and let the sims take their rightful place at the top of the flight sim charts.

Rant over and out,

Im sorry to say that I agree with you, toby, the DCS series is really let down by the rather poor sceneries. Considering the incredible looking sceneries that you can get for sims like FSX, it is really sad to see the DCS series lag behind... Now we finally have some better looking water effects, but unfortunately they are no where near what you get with for instance Real Environment Extreme. And yes, I know that ED has one hell of a job with getting the flight model and avionics as realistic as possible, and that maybe the scenery is less of a priority, but then again, they good just release the tools to the community and let us make the sceneries our selves... (and yes, I know they have been released for BS and FC).

Go fly the hog in FSX.. talk about let down.

I'm sure that you're encouraging the devs by coming to their forums and bashing their product. It's like going to dinner in someones home and talking about how ugly their wife is.

ED has put out much more advanced sims than have ever been available. I'd rather a company have an extended vision than to pump out a "pretty picture" to put on the shelf to increase their bottom line. Be patient...
