STP Dragon Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 The Stick is perfect! The Throttle could be better procesed. RogueRunner Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 yes, it's taking me some time to adjust flying with a moving stick again, still over controlling but getting there. I'm a little apprehensive everytime I switch on my PC, expecting the thottle to die though :D With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.
Yskonyn Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 ^ Me too! ;) That's why I always unplug before switching the power on or off. sneakypete Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 hi gents ..just a quick question..how you finding your new joysticks ..do they come up to expectations..better or for worst..any input welcome..mine are inbound...yeehaaa amazon I'd agree, the Warthog HOTAS is the best there is at the moment. Just a word of warning if buying from Amazon UK. When yours arrives make sure the outer box (brown cardboard) is still sealed. Mine didn't even arrive in the original outer cardboard box and the stick and throttle looked decidedly second hand to me! No original box, fingermarks all over it, no ties on cables, a lot of play on the right hand throttle lever both lateral and when pushing forward. This one also had a very low serial number which as far as I can make out isn't even close to the numbers on units being sold at the moment. I sent this one back stating that the unit had been used which was not acceptable as I had payed for a new one. I wanted a replacement but they would only offer a refund. I hope you have better luck with Amazon than I did. Having said that it's the first problem I've had with them after many years of good service. I'll purchase another elsewhere once Amazon get round to processing my refund!
DocSigma Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I love it. Just the lack of Play on the stick compared to the cougar is heaven. Don't get me wrong I love my cougar and use it for sims like fc2 and to piggyback my elite pedals off of for Dcs. The o e thing I'm not liking though thus Far is the coolie hat On the throttle. Seems a little clumsy for me but I guess it will take a little getting used to before it becomes comfortable. Lightning Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) I am very happy with the new Warthog. Best peace of solid Metal Joystick ever been on the market ( i am not talking about modded Cougars ! ). And still there is always a way to improve the "out of the box" Joystick. For my personal liking the spring was still too tough and because it was not adjustable i modified the Joystick with the actual ( i call it ) SPRING MOD, which was introduced by Feuerfalke : Quoting Feuerfalke here : "I was pretty sad they didn't make the spring for the stick adjustable, but I simply removed it. Instead I moved the 4 smaller springs on top of the ring. Now the friction along the steel tubes is largely minimized and the stick is very smoothly move-able to all extends. No center play, no uneven resistance. Very comfortable." You can read the full thread with detailed Photos of the inside of the Joystick here : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=62564 You have to disassemble the Stick until you get access to the 4 little springs on the bottom of the Joystick. You just pull the 4 springs off the metall cylinders and put the them instead on top of the ring ( not using the big central spring any longer ). After putting all screws back the stick is much smoother in any direction and does not need as much power as before. DocSigma Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) The throttle alone is worth the price. I'm happy with my purchase. Yes! I love it but I now want more switches. Barring a huge footprint I would have paid alot more if they designed the same throttle but extended more in the front to encompass the ahcp left control switches. Frazer Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Not happy (so far), for formation leading the stick is not precise enough (bumbs, lack of smoothness). Working on a solution. But, for combat that is not really relevant. Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Flamin_Squirrel Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Not happy (so far), for formation leading the stick is not precise enough (bumbs, lack of smoothness). Working on a solution. But, for combat that is not really relevant. I find the stick can feel like it's.... well, sticking a little. Is that what you mean? I've tried adding a little grease, tried WD40, both worked for a while, but then the stickyness came back. Shame, as otherwise it's excellent.

Slammin Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Kinda weird people keep picking on the throttle. The part that your hand is in contact with most is aluminum. As far as play, the play/looseness is probably less than the real deal. I mean, think about your car with manual transmission. Wobbly gear shifter? Sure is. Normal? Yes. There really is nothing at all wrong with a part being made of plastic, when plastic is OK for the part. Plastics, sometimes embedded with resins that make them more durable than metal in some cases, are not a bad thing. I think even the P-51 Mustang had some composit materials in it's wing. And, I'd rather wear Kevlar than an old suit of armor. Plastic does not=cheap, all the time :-) Abit IN9 32x MAX- Kentsfield QX6700 @3520 1.5 vcore watercooled D-Tek Fuzion/PA-160/MCR120/2x MCP655 2x2GB G-Skill 1066 5-5-5-15 2T@1.9vdimm 2x EVGA 580GTX 1.5GB SLI 2x 74GB Sata Raptor Raid0 2x 320GB Hitachi Sata II X-FI Elite Pro Dell U3011 Lian Li V2100B Corsair HX1000
WynnTTr Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Didn't someone else mention in another thread that the real A-10 throttle was plastic? I remember reading it, dunno if that's true or not. Plastic of not the unit itself is the heaviest thing I've had to play with HOTAS wise.
Deadman Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 The handles are a heavy duty plastic or polymer the arms are metal https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
