Updated, and all fine here.

My WH lights are still on after shut down though. They will go out only when I switch off my extension interrupter. Funny that, when i switch it back on, the lights only come up at windows desktop.

As I've stated elsewhere, what you're probably seeing is that although the lights don't "go out" until the WH gets powered down...they don't get turned on with power - the firmware only turns them on once it has established communication with Windows ("enumerated").

So how do we get the damn things to turn off!? :) It's getting annoying having to unplug the silly thing every single shutdown. :joystick:

My throttle is plugged into my monitor's USB hub. :D I shut off the monitor, out go the lights.

After applying the firmware however, I tested with the throttle plugged into the motherboard. In retrospect I don't remember trying an actual shutdown, but at least for me going into S3 standby would extinguish the lights.

So perhaps you need an X58 FTW3 m/b. :D

I think TM is going to eventually address this with another firmware update.

I have an ASUS Maximus 2 Gene mobo and even on complete shutdown the throttle stays illuminated with the new firmware too.

OK, I just tested mine again (and tweaked some OC while I was at it).

Normally I keep my throttle plugged into my monitor's built in hub because it's easier for cable management. For purposes of testing I plugged it into the motherboard.

S1 suspend - does not shut off lights.

S3 sleep - shuts off lights

S4 hibernate - shuts off lights

Windows Shutdown - shuts off lights.

So I guess your answer is get an X58 FTW3. :D

Well maybe there is some setting in the bios we can change to force the motherboard to kill power to the usb port? I'll see what I can find.

You're lucky with that motherboard man! :)

I really think this is a TM Warthog firmware issue. I have the WH HOTAS and the TM MFD's plugged into the same powered USB hub. When I power down the computer, the MFD lights go off and the HOTAS lights stay on. I am thinking this should be an easy firmware fix for TM.

It looks like there's some intention to make it software controllable, but the current software doesn't have the capability in it yet to drive this feature.

@Loz, I hope you've gotten some reply in the last day or two? It is quite bad to not be getting any non-automated acknowledgement from a customer service department (even at this time of year).

If he's still not getting any response, is there anyone here with contacts into TM who would be willing to pass on the concerns over not getting supported for problems caused by the hardware/software?

Thanks Topdog

They finally responded with an apology for taking so long, and instruction on how to boot the joystick to it's "Bulk" configuration, also sent a firmware reading program for me to send back the results if it didn't install.

They included a very handy .pdf showing the whole proceedure but it still didn't work even though I tried it on my laptop. (they advised me to try installing on a different pc.)

So I've sent off the firmware program result plus .jpg of the error.

I await further news

To be fair, my CH LED's would also stay on, I think this isnt just the firmware, but also MOBO issue.

Mine also, they only go off if you completely power down the computer. They aren't as bright as the WH though.

Many motherboards by default will always provide a small current through the USB ports even when the machine is shut down. Check if your motherboard has an option for EuP as this will place your machine into the lowest possible energy state at shutdown. Most new motherboards will have this option but not have it enabled by default.

Update

TM have finally admitted defeat with my Joystick that refuses to update the firmware.

I have sent the base of the Joystick (ie minus Stick and Base plate) to them in France and they are going to send me a replacement.

Thank goodness I kept my Cougar (for running my RCS Pedals) as now that, with the Warthog Stick inserted is allowing me to continue flying the Beta.

My new Warty throttle has died, it's only four weeks old, I get 'un-recognized device', it has always been connected to the main board usb port.

I contacted TM and they emailed me the instructions to fix the issue however it refuses to ID itself even through bootloader mode.

Following that I tried it on two different pc's and numerous other usb ports as well as usb hubs with no success.

I DO get the green lights when I plug it in but they disappear when I try to connect using boot loader mode.

Is there anything else I can try?

Specs:

Asus P6

Intel 980

Gainward GTX 480

I never bothered with Target or flashing firmware so it's a factory throttle.

Ah, the key is to flash the firmware before the throttle goes belly up. Did you not see the firmware release? You will have to ship out your throttle.

Had problems but pulled through...

I did the firmware update and it froze...:helpsmilie:

I restarted after killing the process (suicidal...) and the firmware # on the stick was now 0 instead of 9, the stick was now seen by the system only by the bulk driver...I freaked (internally).

I was convinced I had bricked the stick.

Well...then I realized my mistake: the stick and throttle were plugged into USB 3.0 ports (EVGA X58 FTW3) which worked fine with the Warthog (and my old X52 Pro, I now realize) until the firmware upgrade.

Plugging the whole thing into USB 2.0 ports solved the problem and the stick reported back a firmware #9 as before. And everything was back to normal.

Doing the upgrade then went just fine. But the lights are on when the computer is off and that bothers me.

Other than that, this is a re-definition of joysticks...Its just awesome.

Lou

Edit: I plugged the throttle in USB monitor port, so that shutting down the screen shuts down the throttle. Got that from Teej , great idea. Problem solved.
