Flim Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) Hey all I have been pretty busy with Helios and SCS stuff, but now it is time to get the A-10 going. So, I'm starting on the front console and working from there. The hard part is deciding where I want LCD's vs real gauges... that is using servo's or aircores. Here is my prototype built mostly in mdf with some acrylic for panels and bezels/gauges. so, next step is to finish the structure and move on to the details.. panels, gauges, etc... CAT_101st Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 That is a good start. So 3 LCDs gust for the font pannel. Go for a projector as the main screan. Still wish we culd extract the MFCD's on a second network PC. rocketeer Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Wow! Your prototype just looks 10x better than my paper with masking tape version! By the way the panels are separated it doesn't look like using a monitor as glass cockpit for the whole surface is possible. Thought you'd be using Helios for sure. Can you share your dimensions? My A10C cockpit thread
Gadroc Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 It will be using Helios for sure both for gauge rendering as well as switch integration. This will most likely be the proving ground for PHCC or Open Cockpit integration. The entire front panel is scaled at 85% to match the Thrustmaster MFDs (4.25" screen vs 5"). The current render and plan is using two 10.4" for the MFCDS, VVI, ALT, IAS and RWR. Then an 8" panel in the pop out for the ADI and HSI. There will also be a VGA screen in the CDU meaning 5 VGA outputs just for the pit alone. We are still working out how we are going to do the rest of the gauges. We are likely going to do them as steam gauges since the panel configuration would drive us to adding 3 more VGA screens. Using the 85% scale you could place a single 24" - 27" monitor behind the front panel for all the gauges if you "tuck in" the flaps and fuel gauges to no wider than the outside edges of the MFCD. You would then need to bulk up the lower left panels for the switch backs. We dropped this due to the visuals of the panels with only the two deep panels on the lower left.
Flim Posted December 22, 2010 Author Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) Correct, Gadroc reads my thoughts better then I do! lol I can put a 8 incher for the engine gauges, but real needles moving would be very cool, and this would give us good grounds to test Helios with different electronic setups. CAT_101st Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 looking at you pannel I would use 1 16" WS from KDS on the left a and what ever would fit in the middle. A 19" squair on the right mabe a 20". I don't have the mesurments of your dash so I am gussing size. I prefer to use a real switch compaired to the Helios switch's. Flim Posted December 23, 2010 Author Posted December 23, 2010 I'm using a Helios switch, it will be physical and not touch, but without Helios the switch be just for looks!

Flim Posted December 28, 2010 Author Posted December 28, 2010 Here is some updates to the design so far .... still working progress
ZQuickSilverZ Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Ok 3 things. Number one what is MDF? Is it like Google sketchup? Number two. Why use the thrustmaster MFD's? Just use Helios for that. By using those your throwinng off your scale, your adding more wires, and spending more money. Third where did you get that seat? Thanks. I need, I need, I need... What about my wants?
