JHepburn Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Check that your BitTorrent client is forwarded on your router. I'm on a temp router and was getting terrible rates. I checked forwarding for that port, found it disabled, added the port, and now I'm seeing ~400 kB/sec down (up from ~20). If you're unsure how to set it up, try this site - http://portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/Utorrent/Utorrentindex.htm Note: First page after selecting your router is an add. Link to skip is top right of screen.
titanium Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Yeah, I did that. Thanks for the advise but unfortunately I am having problems with my ISP throttling my connection. So my download speed is only maxing out at 80kb/s. Hopefully after midnight I will get a higher rate. Anyone here in the Toronto area using Bell sympatico and dealing with the same problem? I am the alpha and the omega
Ruse Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Bell throttles all torrent traffic. They do it because nobody will tell them not to.
Thorvald Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Same with Rogers... I was getting 7kb up to 130 randomly, but mostly 1.2-7kb. Downloaded from ftp/http in under an hour... damn torrents ... I mean damn ISPs. menendezdiego Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 what username/password is needed for the ftp?
104th_Crunch Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Yes, I am pretty sure Rogers and Bell throttle torrent files as much as possible in Ontario. I tried using another port, still doesn't help. Damn draconian business practices.
104th_Crunch Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 what username/password is needed for the ftp? none, just means it is busy.
menendezdiego Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 none, just means it is busy. well isn't that just nice :) GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Mustang Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Had the same issue here in UK last night with British Telecom throttling me all the way down to 1-2kb/s.....but as soon as it got to around 12:15am it shot all the way up to 400-500kb/s.
Druid_ Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 The great thing about Dubai is 24MB optic fibre internet and an ISP who doesn't yet know what traffic shaping / throttling is. Ells228 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Well last night for me it said 1 year 36 weeks on the torrent!!! I guess it was a little busy lol Now I'm getting between 500kb/s and 1Mb/s with BT in the UK and 1h 36mins That's more like it.
Kula66 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Mine is crawling along at under 50Kb/s in the UK on Torrent, not very impressive ... and especially after apparently downloading B4 again from the German FTP site last night :(
PhoenixBvo Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Guys, just get a VPN connection like VyprVPN. That way your ISP can't look into your packages and therefore it will not throttle you anymore. DarkSoul Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 well!! my download speed was around 350-490kb/sec, now its jumps between 30-100kb/sec
macedk Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Guys with ISP throttle issues.... Its time for you all to get together and say something about it. That business model just wrong. If you look on what some English based isp's have in there lua's about guarantee of speed. Virgin: Due to the nature of the Internet, we cannot guarantee specific levels of performance for the Internet access. http://shop.virginmedia.com/the-legal-stuff/terms-and-conditions-for-cable-services.html#general section B -item 5 - note C. Tiscali: 3.7 We will use reasonable endeavours to provide the Broadband Services to you at the speed you have requested, however we cannot always guarantee this. The speed of your connection and download times may be slower depending on the length of any telephone extension cables at the Installation Address, the distance the Installation Address is from the telephone exchange, the speed and quality of your router and modem, and congestion on our Network or the Internet. http://www.talktalk.co.uk/legal/tiscali-product/terms/ I'll bet your specific one might have the same kind of clause in there. My isp: www.Fullrate.dk on the matter from google translate. Full Rate will, wherever possible, inform the customer about compound estimated maximum achievable bandwidth. In cases where the copper connection does not support the ordered bandwidth, Fullrate delivers the maximum possible bandwidth depending on the customer's product selection. There must however be taken into account,to approx. 10% of the bandwidth of DSL is used for 'overhead'(ie the compound handling for sending and receiving data). Also the overhead part of the statement above is under review, because it is not deemed fair that any isp traffic handling should be included in the promised speed that is sold to you. SO.... English isp: no guarantee on speed and traffic control Danish isp: 85-90% guarantee and no traffic control. The English no guarantee model would not be legal in Denmark. Kula66 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I'm not sure it's is my ISP ... I'm only downloading from a few peers and the fastest is 21KB! The rest are 4 and 5 ... It will arrive eventually.
Ells228 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Mine has just completed downloading and I'll leave the torrent on for a few days

astrospud Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Definitely not my ISP - I'm getting 5mbps d/l on tests. Torrent fluctuates between 60kps and 250kps. Not sure why? - port forward has been done successfully, btw. Will just have to wait, I suppose.... Rectum non bustus
Para_Bellum Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I've just finished the torrent with an average speed of 92kb/s, took about 13 hours. Will keep seeding for some time. BTW when I started downloading it showed only a hand full of seeders, right now I see almost 400. :D
ShadowVonChadwick Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) Thanks to those seeding the last hour has improved for me 300k avg Maxed out my upload, its not great but hope it helps.
