Rusty_M Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Well the news of Black Shark being on Steam came on the day it was available IIRC, so I wouldn't hold out much hope of any advanced warning. ED seem to like to surprise their consumer base. The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming
EtherealN Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 AFAIK there's no news on when a steam release will happen. Sorry. No, you will not be able to activate a Steam copy with a license purchased elsewhere. If you have a normal copy, and want it on Steam, you can still do so! Look at the icons the DCS installer created, and create new shortcuts that are identical inside the Steam games list. You won't be able to re-download on Steam, but the game will be in the list and other people (if you use the social features of Steam) will still be able to see when you are playing it. mtuckner Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I had tried to enable the shortcut on steam but it fails to launch for some reason. It starts but then gets an error and crashes. I didn't spend any time troubleshooting it, but has anyone gotten the shortcut to successfully launch from Steam?
Scratchy Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Couldn't Wait I was going to wait on the Steam release, but couldn't do it. Instant gratification and all that. ;) And I'm glad I didn't wait. This is one awesome simulator. I'm having a blast. Blast. I didn't spend any time troubleshooting it, but has anyone gotten the shortcut to successfully launch from Steam? You can't link directly to the DCS executables, you need to pass some arguments toghether on the link. Here is the 64bits multiplayer for DCS:A-10 for example: "G:\2\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\bin\DCS.exe" --net-mode gui I don't use Steam, but i think that is the problem you got. AMD Athlon II X2 240 2.8@3360 MHz | MB Asus M4A78-EM | 4GB DDR2-800 Kingston | XFX HD 5770 @850-900/1200-1300 | 500G Samsung HD502HI | Case CM 335 | CM-EPP 460W | Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit) | Saitek X65F | Freetrack(Wii Remote) | LG 23' W2353V
EtherealN Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I suspect the same, Le0kong. mtuckner, you can't just directly link. It's the reason I stressed the following: "and create new shortcuts that are identical inside the Steam games list" So in my case, I would right-click the icon on desktop, select properties, and find the following: Target: "C:\Games\DCS A-10C Warthog\bin\DCS.exe" --net-mode gui Start in: "C:\Games\DCS A-10C Warthog" For SP: Target: "C:\Games\DCS A-10C Warthog\bin\Launcher.exe" Start in: "C:\Games\DCS A-10C Warthog" You will get errors if it starts directly into the bin subfolder. That's just a storage location, not a run location, so to speak. kungfoo Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Waiting here too, because D2D does not work for me. Please, with sugar on top, make it release on Steam. This is the best thing I've seen release since Falcon 4...

mtuckner Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Just noticed your Steam explanation some many days later. Will give it a go next time I have a few moments to fly. Thanks guys.
fearlessfrog Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Eagerly awaiting Steam release too. Can't believe the IL2 sequel made it on there before DCS A10! Soon? I.e. is it weeks or months away? ~~~ http://www.mudspike.com
EtherealN Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Can't believe the IL2 sequel made it on there before DCS A10! Published by UbiSoft. Wide-ploriferation releases is one of the advantages of having a major publishing house at your back. Unfortunately there are also major drawbacks to that, and if being independent from Ubisoft means a delayed Steam release I'd personally say it's worth it. Soon? I.e. is it weeks or months away? No news at this time, though it's not something I'd necessarily know about very far ahead of time. Gimpymoo Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 No updates appear on Steam at Weekends so at best we can hope for a release tomorrow (Monday). Although they also need time for the files to seed to their content servers, unsure how long that takes them.

ED Team Wags Posted March 20, 2011 ED Team Posted March 20, 2011 It takes time for Steam to create the sales page and set up the file transfers. I would not expect to see it for sale there until early April. Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/wagmatt Twitch: wagmatt System: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3729544#post3729544
