mtuckner Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Wouldn't doubt if it would be released with the A10C update pack with Nevada or something like that. Would be shocked if it was in an upcoming patch.
Zorg_DK Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Excuse my ignorance but what's a dedicated server? What's it good for - Better ping or what? "There are only 10 types of people in the world — those who understand binary, and those who don't." [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Insanatrix Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 much easier to run a command line dedicated server then have to buy a box with a graphics card to run the game. It would also, depending on coding, be much more beneficial as the server really only needs to keep track of data and not actually display the game. You cut out the rendering engine and you save that much in resources. Also again depending on coding would probably be more stable.

msalama Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 For multiplay, you can either use peer-to-peer client networking, or dedicated servers. The difference is that with P-to-P one of the players acts as a server with his/her instance of the game providing all networking connectivity and participant administration etc. while also acting as his/her personal game just as in offline singleplay, whereas a dedicated server only runs the game as a service all clients then connect with (i.e. no-one can directly "play" the server process). I hope this less-than-technical explanation makes any sense to you  PS / EDIT: Insanatrix beat me to it it seems :) The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

TigersharkBAS Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I wonder if it will finally implement so players could see each other's custom skins. The only way to implement this would be to download (during mission setup) the textures of each player with a custom skin. So if you and I were playing and we both had custom skins, you would have to download mine during mission load and I would have to download yours. You can imagine how much this will increase load times as we would each download a full set of aircraft textures. There simply is no way around having a local copy of each others textures I'm afraid. I strongly doubt you will see this anytime soon...if ever. Unfortunate yes, but reality :( [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Creator of: F-18C VFA-195 "Dambusters" 1998 CAG Livery https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=213788 F-18C VFA-195 "Dambusters" July 2001 CAG Livery https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=215950 Pilot avatars for DCS Logbook https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=221160 How to make a DCS A-10C Panel http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=65998

epoch Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Regarding custom skins, one possibility would be to have 'community skin packs'. The Rise of Flight team use this approach (link), so if anyone wants to see the skins, they can download and apply the packs. Not too difficult to manage (whether hosted here or elsewhere) but would need someone to take responsibility for it.

digitaljjd Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 (edited) It could be a mistake. Hornets are wasps, not bees, and are scary mean SOB's. It's the time of year for them to start coming out down here in Georgia. (US) Maybe they mean a "B" model of aircraft? F/A-18"B"? Or perhaps AV-8"B" or F-16"B"? Edited March 17, 2011 by digitaljjd
Distiler Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Well, hornets prey on bees, this is why they are buzzing, it's not about the honey XD AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2

digitaljjd Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 B model? sorry my hypothesis is much more reasonable. Wasps, bees, who cares, it's the same buzz and have stingers. I care! When you hear a hornet, you know what it is just by the in-flight buzz, they don't even sound the same. I'm sure they probably meant hornets when they used the word bees. Having been stung by a bee, a wasp, yellow jackets and a hornet, the hornet was by far the worst. Maybe that's why I know the difference. At any rate, I'm am rather curious as to what ED's up to next. It sounds like we might find out sooner then later.
Legolasindar Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 We're talking about simulators, not insects, to talk about insects and examine their differences can look at other sites  Makes me think "look how easy is to keep a community entertained in between releases!" mtuckner Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I agree NoJoe. They are probably talking about this thread and us speculating about the Dedicated Server tweet.

Without your help, I don't know what I would have done! Thank you for clearing up the diffenence between an insect and a comptuter aircraft simulator, because you obviously don't know about insects. Without your help, I would have never found a site about insects. Without a doubt, you are a selfless and caring person to share so much information. Peace and contentment be with you for all of your years.
