There was also a military helicopter sim called "LHX Atack Chopper", by Electronic Arts, wich i played a lot and had great fun playing in those early PC days of mine:thumbup::thumbup:; here is a video showing it in action:

On the airliner field one that catched my attention, before Flight Simulator, was" Flight Assignment:ATP". It was very detailed and realistic in the early 90's.

So to sum it all up: I began my flight sim life:pilotfly: with three titles: "F-15 Strike Eagle II", "LHX Attack Chopper" and "Flight Assignment: ATP (Airline Transport Pilot)"

At least with YouTube our grandchildren will have to believe the stories about the 'olden' days.

Much better than trying to convince them that TVs used to have a knob to change the channels.:D

Yes, F-19 from Microprose and then everything from them.

THose times wre flightsim times. Now its only boring FPS time.

I played hell out of F-117, F-15 II, janes AH-64, Knigts of the sky, DID EF-2000. TFX, Falcon 4.

I think if we want to bring new people to flightsiming its necessary to make a step by step interactive tutorials and videos to show them how to play them.

SOmething DCS made with A- 10 but more in depth. ANyway good job.

when I remember my childhood in germany we had only four programs available, thus TVs had four program store Buttons with analog channel dials under a removable board to select each buttons frequency. God! Am I old, am I?

first experience: flight simulator(the one that worked on windows 3.1)

first game bought: jane's us navy fighters '97

Sublogic flight simulator on the C64, I would have played other flight games first but this was the first simulator so far as it came with some aviation charts, manual about flight etc.

I started with the old Microprose titles like F-19 and F-15 SE II.

Oceans Retaliator title was cool as well and that was my first introduction to using a mouse as a control input (ah, times fly!). I remember it being so awkward that I thought at that time I would never get used to a mouse, ever.

MSFS was hugely interesting as well. Being able to fly anywhere on the globe was just such a massive thing in my view. That alone was all the magic.

I was gifted my uncle's copy of MSFS along with a cool book called Learning to fly with Flight Simulator by John Rafferty. Fun times and this was my introduction to navigation, VOR's, NDB's and the like.

Then came the Domark titles like AV8B Harrier. Insanely complex and rudimentary external control input, but nonetheless so highly interesting! ;)

Jane's title are quite clearly engraved into my mind as well. Jane's US Navy Fighters was the first sim I actually bought with my saved money AND I spend money for a videocard upgrade just for this one. The graphics level of detail were unprecedented and were only pushed forward with each Jane's title afterwards.

Remember we finally got different weapons on outside (external view) pylons and actually seeing the weapon launch from the pylon? That was never done, before this era. Things we take for granted now.

Argh, it makes me feel old. :) But happy that DCS is here and Falcon BMS is living up again too.

I started with something on the spectrum. It looked a bit like the Atari one on the previous page. Then there was F14 Fleet Defender, which I played in the mid-'90s. I also played Navy Strike, which wasn't great, but by then it was hard to find games to run on my 486 sx 33.

Following that I dabbled years later with a free copy of Flight Unlimited II.

Fast Forward to 2010, when I bought Black Shark and Allied Force along with Lock on and IL2 1946. Then at the beginning of 2011 I built my first PC to do them justice.

Trying to catch up now with FSX, F4 BMS, both DCS titles. Never seemed to get on too well with Flaming Cliffs 2, even if that is the game which first made me post here. I also occasionally dabble in CLOD.

Perhaps I'm too unfocussed, as I also play various non-flight video games.

Strike Commander, even if it's not exactly a SIM... after, US Navy Fighters and EF2000 :)

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

Dont know why Strike commander wasnt a SIM. It had a rather unconventional cockpit interface with the player, a storyline instead of a normal campaign but other than that I couldnt see anyhting in the simulation aspect that was any less than its couterparts. We are talking about a SIM made in 1993, lots of SIM's but very few were actually aimed at realism. Oh boy code writers got a quite a few facts wrong! :D

After replacing my good old Euro SX for a brand new Pentium 100 with Win95, it was time to put it to the test and so i did with Hind , A-10 Cuba and Hornet 3.0. Remember the mission briefings ..."Comrade you will fly the mighty Hind in this assignment"...so cool as it was the gameplay as well. The other two had a very good physics engine making for a great flight experience...i don't remember catching the wires as many times as i did in Hornet 3.0 ..."hornet one call the ball at 3/4 mile...hornet ball" and we were ready to hit the deck thumbup: A-10 Cuba was terrific, although graphics were a bit dated, but the flight model was very realistic it got me hooked:thumbup::thumbup:
