Just popped into A-10C instant action to check and if you look closely in external view you can see the slight gold tint of the right and left front windscreens. Center screen and main canopy appear to be clear.

At least that's how it appears to me.

I've noticed it in external view as well, but I'm looking for the tinting in first person view... which works with CEPEGA's mod, but somewhere along the lines a patch screwed it up so that the center pane is also yellow.

It's still working as far as I can tell, not sure which level I have activated to be honest. It just looks like the effect doesn't tint the blue sky.

Interesting... Any chance you could upload or send me your \Mods\aircraft\A-10C\Cockpit\Resources\Model\Textures\A_10C_C_EDM_TEX.zip file?

Also, strange that the right pane doesn't appear to be modified in this screenshot... something to do with the angle?

Posted (edited)

Here's the .dds that I'm using. I just renamed it with .zip from .dds so the forum will accept it.

I do not replace the one file in the A_10C_C_EDM_TEX.zip or the whole zip btw.

It's set up in JSGME so that it only adds

\Mods\aircraft\A-10C\Cockpit\Resources\Model\Textures\A_10C_C_EDM_TEX\A-10C-glass-REFLECT.dds

.

If you do it this way, DCS will read the file in the \A_10C_C_EDM_TEX\ directory first before checking the A_10C_C_EDM_TEX.zip.

Yea I noticed that about the right pane, think it was the angle or it's just not showing on the blue sky.

Edit: path wasn't displaying correctly so added code tags.

A-10C-glass-REFLECT.zip

Thank you very much... it looks like your file did the trick. I actually tried all three options from the download in the user files area... I'm not sure what happened to them to cause the center pane to also be yellow, but that problem does not exist in your copy.

Rep added.

How is it already tinted? I don't see yellow tinted windscreen panels in the stock game?

It IS tinted! I checked yesterday as someone said it was "broken" by a recent update...

The effect is just less "in ya face" than the mod, more like it is in the real plane.

It is more obvious from the external view.

And believe me, it is there since 2011/2012.

As you can see in the "without mod" screenshot, the glass on both side windscreens are tinted a light gold like in the real plane (notice the change in contrast, as it filters the sunlight and thus the view seems a tad bit darker).

With the mod it is heavily tinted "honey yellow", for the sake of seeing a yellow glass.

To each his own. If you like it that way, it is fine with me.

Consider that it could make spotting ground targets a bit more difficult, though...

The more realistic effect is definitely the stock one.

I have to correct myself. It's in the SIM since 3 years plus...

The external view really has nothing to do with the first person view... I am -only- referring to what you see in first person, while flying.

I agree that I can see a slight tint to the left/right windows w/o modification, but I'm not certain this is as true to the real thing as you're stating... maybe the level of tinting varies from application to application?

I've only looked inside the cockpit of an A-10 once at an airshow, but I recall the windows being noticeably more amber... like the examples I re-posted yesterday.

Also, what I was stating was "broken" was the use of the CEPEGA mod since some patch many years ago. Previously, the mod would only add the amber tint to the left/right panes, but currently, it also adds it to the center pane.

Well, as Eagle Dynamics had LOTS of input from people like Snoopy (a crew chief at Moody AFB at that time, actually working on the A-10Cs there) I tend to trust his input.

One interesting comment was, that many planes got totally different replacement screens, as there were multiple part providers involved and it was often patchwork.

From what I remember of Videos etc. the stock effect looks pretty subtle, but correct to me... again it might have different screens with lighter or darker tint or some may had adhesive screen taped onto it.

In the end it is important what you prefer. Only I would suggest a little bit less "yellowish" than in the mod, as it might have negative impact when spotting ground targets with eyeballs mk1.

If you have no problems using the mod it is fine, as others won't be affected.

I was basically stating the tint was in the SIM since years, thus many people including me did no longer install the mod.

Yep, I have no doubt that there are others here who are much more qualified than I am, just going by what I've seen.

My best guess is that the amount of tinting varies from A-10 to A-10... for whatever reasons.

FWIW, in this video you get several shots from inside the cockpit of this affect.

Even our jets at Moody, assigned to the same Fighter Squadron have different windshield colors. It all comes down to manufacturer and what is available when you have to replace one....
