OK ED... Anytime your ready to announce the next aircraft

You're both wrong. You should inform yourself before making those stupid assumptions. I'm not falcon mafia nor groupie. If you look at my previous messages you should see that I'm deeply involved into testing and flying this simulator. I'm part of a virtual squadron that flies both F4 and DCS: A-10C and I'm only active on A-10C wing because I like it more. It's just that my admiration for this sim doesn't prevent me to see good things on the other.

And at least it's my opinion, if you like it or not. I'm not here to convince. You've made wrong assumptions about my preferences and put me automatically into stupid groups.

My last post on this thread. I'll have more care in the future to not name Falcon in these forums.

I stated what I think is truth generally, not personally. Mostly based on my experience with "fanatics" of Falcon.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Haha... (sorry have to post this.... or else I won't have a good start into the weekend...;) - even that I know I'm risking to get negative rep for this.)

I had the slight guess where this thread is heading after I read "OK ED... Anytime your ready to announce the next aircraft" two days ago...

But I'm also very pleased and surprised that it needed more than 50 postings to get where it is.

This is proof enough that this forum is very open-minded and mature.

-- have a nice weekend! :D

Edit:

...Phew ! It is already in the "Chit-chat" - so I can't receive reputation for that! :P

No, I did not. I was talking about DCS, and AFAIK FC2 is not part of DCS-series (even if it introduced LOFC2/DCS:BS compatibility)...

The point GG was making is that the reason so much time passed between DCS:BS and DCS:WH is that FC2 was being developed in the mean time.

And the point I was making is that time between DCS:A-10C and DCS:WhateverNext will be the same (or even more), becase with every next DCS-module more and more "compatibility work" must be done. From this point of view even DCS:A-10C is not finished yet...

And when we are talking about it, I remember DCS has been originally presented as modular system with some common "core", where new aircrafts will be just added to the existing ones. But to me BS and A-10C seem to be more like independent software packages, where tremendous amount of work must be done to make them online-compatible. Imagine once in far future ED releases DCS:Number10: they'll have to make it compatible with 9 previous DCS-packages. At that time, this "work on 9 online-compatibility patches" might easily take more time, than developing DCS:Number10 itself...

It is true, I've even read somewhere ED is seriously planning to make one solid base for addons, not like now where you create standalone product, then you have to make patch and think how to make this :D

My most commonly used example is: do you know how long Relic had Dawn of War being worked on, but still holding it secret? The answer is: a LOOOONG time.

Never heard of it, ever, what does that tell you about secret developments?

It's an RTS, not a flight sim, so you not having heard of it doesn't mean much.

But it is one of the most successful RTS games in the history of PC gaming. ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_40,000:_Dawn_of_War

They had other games they had just released, but if they had said "Btw, we'll make a 40k title after this" just as Homeworld 2 was released, their WW2 games would probably have fallen in shadow.

That you have a narrow interest within gaming or at the very least do not follow general gaming news sites where you could have picked up on either the game series: Warhammer, or the developer: Relic, both of which are quite famous in their own right. Also you are one of those "vocal minority" types who seems to be out of his/her mind for the last couple of months and needs to sitdown before you fall down.

I wont answer that until you come over to my place with a bottle of 12 year old scotch.

Warning, Warning! Not intended awesomely long post.

DCS suffer from 2 major problems:

Less than stellar AI.

And complex map generator that must be tweaked a lot to compensate the not so bright AI.

That being said, AI was less than stellar 10 to 15 years ago when the first big dinamyc theater was realeased with EF2000 V2.0. and then, the not so far fetched, wanna be called, advanced F4 dynamic campaign.

F4 was most festered by its supposed realism than the campaign itself. If you get an icy analisis.

All in all, both iterations where a sucess (the second one after a massive debug), and since there s nothing on the horizon, anything as poor as those old time dynamic theater would be better than the void that we have now.

Then surely you can say its a matter of online VS offline. But you can bet your rear end (not mine) that all would welcome a Dinamyc theater realistic or not, thats why people try to implement it in all flightsim being at least semi serious, or realistic (whatever you name it).

Who the hell cares about realistic to the core, its about entretainment, or some people are getting themselves a bit too serious seated at their desktop while wife call in for dinner ?

DAMN!! It was fun by itself to look at the FLOT and see what happens without you being in.

As for the mission builder.

Certainly not every one have the mind and added time to master it, most of us doesn t even have the time to master the plane itself (and/or build a cozy cockpit).

If you don t want to end up with some automatic random mission generated where lack of AI shines, you have to overcome AI weakness trought tools use inside tools used, and in the end, you have to be PMP certified and do a detailed WBS just to create a single "realistic" mission, where the AI is brought down by its own use of afterburner before having its target in range.

Not fun at all, unless you're after the praises you rightly deserve, but just a very few minority enter this picture.

Just fly online?

Unfortunatly, only a few minority have the structure and matching timeline to fly online too.

If a DCT (Dynamic Continuous Theater) isn t important why has it been implemented in EF2000, DID titles, F4 and more recently Il2 series and RoF, and sometimes not by the company, but by the the customers who take the times to create them themselves. And if i would allow myself to say something, which i already am, DCT gave a new breath to the FCsim genre.

I know DCS staff wishes to do the best, but sometimes as we say here: The optimum is enemy of the good. Better to have something than nothing.

I really love DCS, but well sometimes my armchair general stalk and knife my amrchair pilot and i feel the need to feel i m inserted in a bigger picture and not only a mere sequence of unintegrated missions and i slip off to some unrealistic but fun DCT.

I am still betting the announcement for DCS:Next will not be before Nevada is released. There is no need to be too excited about more than one thing at a time. We should still be looking forward to the compatibility patch for that matter. Even if people knew the exact order of the next 5 modules they would still be asking for information on the module after that. Of course this is no reason to stop the speculation on FC4, iPhone 6, Windows 9, DCS: Yves Rossy, etc., but keeping things unknown helps keep people from getting bored of them before they even get a chance to enjoy them. (Also if they told us their current plan for the exact order, it would probably end up not being that order.)
