Snoopy Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 The picture 2-3 postings above is about 400 x 400 km, Nevada is supposed to be about 350 x 350 km. That doesn't mean every new map will be that size, anyways this is the Middle East map I'd like to see. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
Eddie Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 That's a bit small dude, you could get across it and back with just a couple of tanker hookups. ;) You could extend it a bit further north and meet up with the current theatre.

I bet there is a couple years work of building modelling in that size of a map... least at the detail levels we are seeing so far with the Nevada screen shots... VMFA117_Poko Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 It is small indeed - no doubt. This picture shows just area around listed airfields. It doesn't mean it will be this size in the end. paulrkiii's area in opposition is so big that it will take ages to prepare it in EDGE standards imho. Maybe i'm wrong - maybe there are the tools ready.

I'm not going to argue with you because you will just delete my post or ban me. My point is most of the middle east is empty desert. It would have to be done in chunks I am sure, and even then... it would take years.... remember they want good ground quality for the CA side of things... its not all about chasing a tanker around over low quality cities and such... Vegas is not tiny, but neither are Baghdad, Dubai, Riyhad, Kuwait City and whatnot in between all those sand dunes. So, yeah, maybe a map of that size would really be a bit too challenging.

shagrat Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 The major effort is in the towns and villages. If you compare the middle east to Georgia or Nevada the settlements are far less numerous per square of 100 miles? I guess that is what Paul meant. I hope so, and I'm standing by once released to post bugs for what isn't correct at Nellis so it's a true representation of the base. I for one will be very disappointing if the average map size in the future is limited to what we were told NTTR will be. I want larger maps but from the comments towards me I must be an idiot. Flagrum Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) Wait till you see the details of this new map... you will understand better. Trust me. Its freaking awesome... Maybe a big Gulf map does not need such extreme high level of detail in every area (speaking of cities). For Nevada it makes probably sense as you will spend quite some time in and out of Nellis and therefore also Vegas. But a big Gulf map could probably get away with some more generic cities... but it would still be probably a huge undertaking, considering just the number of big cities in the proposed area.
