I have a slight gripe with the appearance of rain in both WH and BS. When flying at speed the animated rain still streaks at an angle much larger relative to the flight path than it is in reality. At high speeds (100mph +), the angle should appear parallel to the flight path. When I fly a real plane through rain or snow (especially snow) I see what looks like a tunnel. The far end of the tunnel is a distant point directly in front of me. And it is from this point that all streaks of precipitation seem to originate as they pass around my view point or hit the wind screen. This same effect is pretty clear when driving through heavy snow at night, but in that case there is still the appearance of an angle of fall reletive to the horizon (moving the end-point of the "tunnel" up). I am sure that there is a simple formula to calculate the percieved angle based on the velocity of the camera versus the velocity of the precipitation but my math skills suck.

EDIT: Actually snow works. The problem is with rain.

Rain & snow affects in DCS are from the 90s. When sat in the cockpit on the tarmac and its snowing.. move your head around and watch the snow follow you.. comical.

Getting this fixed / upgraded would be a massive bonus.

Agree with Smoking Hole, and have the rain hit the canopy, disperse and even run down the sides when your static. Give the aircraft a shiny appearence as if it is wet.. Maybe im asking too much.

Flying in adverse weather is a good challenge, adds to the reality of this all weather jet, and after a successfull mission, shoot an approach to get back down.

My wish list.

1. Fix bugs in A-10C and Ka-50

2. Dedicated server with autostart possible

3. Release FC3

4. Release new DCS SIM aircraft (maby with some snow and rain effects)

5. More aircrafts!

Nice video Mustang (airport really looked like my local one here)! Proves my point about the rain ;) 99,99% of the mission time you do not see any rain even in a storm.

that sounds wrong. if you were to operate in rainy weather, especially in a storm, you should be able to see rain just fine.

I think rain would be even better for the Ka-50 in bad weather conditions, because you'd have to turn on the wiper to be able to see through the canopy, which would be more realistic.

As it is now, the wiper is just decorative unfortunately.

They don't have to make rain drops on the canopy very realistic for a start. Just scripted drops that disappear when you reach certain speeds (like in the f-18 video), but of course ED knows better how much work that requires.

Maybe something like that:

God forgives... Spyros doesn't.

Does the A10c have windshield wipers?Dumb question most likely....

Massive and massive...how often do we fly in rainy conditions after all. :P

Yes, massive. It ruins the suspension of disbelief instantly and thoroughly the moment you hit rain and see the streaks appear from somewhere off to the side even though you have the ball centered.

As to your question, I'd say it's nowhere near often enough if we take the point of view that we are to simulate real world flying. Georgia isn't exactly California.

You should see rain quite often. To choose only fair weather to fly in is not an option for real life ops, so that'd be gamey. Sorry. :)

K,thanks. So tempted to buy BS but find the A10 enough to handle for now.Maybe to support ED since we need em and all.

In that F18 video it looks like it has actually stopped raining just prior to lining up, so no fresh drops are appearing as he accelerates. I'm not sure there shouldn't be drops appearring as we fly especially in a slow A10.

Really slow in a A-10 still means around 140knots, a speed at which the KA-50 starts to get into trouble. I really doubt that you will have a lot of raindrops on the canopy because they are hitting the canopy at a pretty low angle. My old 2cv has a very small but nearly upright windshield and at my top speed of 90km/h I cannot see anything if it is raining more than a bit. On a modern car, you have a windshield that is bigger because it is installed with a really flat angle. This way it is way bigger than the one in my old 2cv but provides only a slightly bigger field of view. Back to the A-10: the flat angle at which raindrops would hit the canopy would dispense them on a pretty big area. At a speed between 240-550km/h you would hit more raindrops per second but also blow them away pretty fast so I recon that as soon as you are fast enough to fly, you shouldn't see any drops on your windshield.

Some ppl seams to think the A-10C is more like the Sesna or a piper. Please ;)

Well if you go and fly a Piper Seneca through rain on an approach I assure you will you will have visibility issues, not due to discrete "droplets" but a continuous streams of water smearing / flowing off. Its not that pleasent.

The A10 is not a fast aircraft and in any case it is capapble to be flown slowly. You can easily be flying an approach at 140 and those are speeds you can easily reach in a piper.

I also ask why a 737 has windscreen wipers. I think they are a bit faster than an A10. Obviously at approach speeds it can be worthwhile to have them.

Lastly, if I go out and drive my car through any kind of rain at 100mph I will not be brave or stupid enough to do it for long without the wipers on! Even with a slopey windscreen (Audi A4).

So my final thought on the subject: the rain smear would be good to be modelled.

P.S. Top of the list on YT for "737 approach rain"
