HiJack Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Kuky! Any new performance comments on the 7970 with DCS World? I'm looking to change my GPU but is a bit unsure if I should switch to GTX690. (HJ)
Kuky Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 HiJack, I am very satisfied with HD7970, water cooling it and it's running 1.1GHz core and I think I am CPU limited ATM. The GTX690 is way to expensive I think and not worth the money, I saw it for AU$1499... too much considering CF/SLI isn't worth in DCS PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
HiJack Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Thanks Kuky, I'm thankfull for the update. Also really glad you now seams to have solved all problems that were there ;) (HJ)
Kuky Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 yeah, no more drama with this card on my end, driver updates fixed it all. PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
*Rage* Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Very Happy with my 7970 as well. Stock volts and running at 1150 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 64th "Scorpions" Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 195.201.110.22
HiJack Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 What produser did you go with? I'm looking for a factory overclocked card.
Kuky Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 My one is Sapphire, using CCC override only to overclock, no voltage change required, also just core is overclocked. PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
HiJack Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 OK, Sapphire is definetly on the list but I'l check a bit more out on the HIS 7970 IceQ X2 card also. Link to interesting compare of 7970 cards: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7970-overclock-review,3186-3.html
HiJack Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 OK. Ordered and picking up this one tomorrow :D (HJ)
Cali Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Nice looking card Hijack! i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
JG14_Smil Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 You will like it. The 7970 really helped my 4 year old system.
HiJack Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Sapphire HD7970 mounted and I have no initial issues, everything (all sims) works right out of the box. No additional OC is done at this point but I get about 50% increase in FPS from my old card PowerColor HD5870, at least in FC2 so this is promising. I'm on a 6 core AMD CPU and it seems this works fine. One question, should I ditch my old DVI cable and go for HDMI? Is there any functional gain in doing this? I'm on a 27" HD LED screen with 2ms refresh rate (Samsung SyncMaster P2770H). (HJ)
Cali Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Try it out and see.....I have to use HDMI on my 26" monitor so I can run 3 monitor off my card and a forth off a external adapter. I plan on doing that this weekend. I've heard some issues about using HDMI and it scaling back the res......guess I'll find out soon. I'll be using a 26", 24", 19" and a 15". i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
SkateZilla Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 HDMI supports better content protection, and carries AUDIO to you speakers of you LCD. DVI doesnt. Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
Mustang Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Actually DVI can carry audio, provided you have the appropriate adapter, like this (i've used one on my HD6850 and it definately works) http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/dvi-to-hdmi-amd-345k-series.html
metalnwood Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I got the asus 7970 with the factory overclock. Only problem is that my very stable overclock of my i5 to 4.5ghz now gives me a bsod since installing the card. I have had to take off the OC to keep the machine going. Not sure whats better, the i5 @4.5 with my 6970 or the 7970 without the OC.

metalnwood Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I did think of that but my psu was up to the task of dual 6970's so I figured a single 7970 should be OK. It's a 850 watt corsair I think. Must be getting on a few years now though.
metalnwood Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 HiJack, I downloaded it but cant see anything specifically related to psu, just vcore etc. I might have expected to see the voltages for the rails but nothing?
HiJack Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 HiJack, I downloaded it but cant see anything specifically related to psu, just vcore etc. I might have expected to see the voltages for the rails but nothing? Hmm, if the power supply (PSU) is faulty you should see fluctuating power on the 3.3V, 5V and 12V readings.
HiJack Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I get very good frames with this setting in DCS World! FPS generally over 60. I have overclocked a bit with this settings: Seems stable so far. I'm very satisfied with the Sapphire HD 7970 OC model with two fans!
