HiJack Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Takeoff and landings I really hope ED includes the possibility to create a grass airfield or at least the possibility to refuel and rearm using the same types of units needed to rearm and refuel the Ka-50 on the FARP. If they just add the same rearming and refueling features as the Ka-50 and set a minimum distance from the units to work we could just use a cornfield or other farmland to create new airbase. (HJ)

(HJ) That's a good idea. In fact a really good idea. Said farmland would be bumpy as hell but it would work for the shark as well. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
normntaz Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Found on ED's facebook page, the P-51 soundtrack :P http://soundcloud.com/btd-1-1/soundtrack-for-dcs-p-51 Awesome! You can even hear the "whistle". Thanks for posting!

cichlidfan Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 If the P-51D is a single engine plane, then why would I need dual throttle? You need the other lever for mixture and then the slider for prop pitch would be my instinct. EDIT: I don't know if the P-51 had an adjustable prop. effte Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Engine management will be a shock to many avid jet p... eh, drivers. ;) RPM is the most needed control. The 51 has auto mixture. If there was anything I was disappointed in, it was the selection of an aircraft with quite a bit of automation. Manual mixture, manual variable pitch, manually controlled manifold pressure... that would have been fun! For a few... ;D ----- Introduction to UTM/MGRS - Trying to get your head around what trim is, how it works and how to use it? - DCS helos vs the real world.
159th_Viper Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 If the P-51D is a single engine plane, then why would I need dual throttle? At the very least, one axis for Manifold pressure and another axis for the Propeller RPM. A lot more axis certainly helps. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? sobek Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Manual mixture, manual variable pitch, manually controlled manifold pressure... that would have been fun! For a few... ;D Don't forget the cowling flaps, those are automated too. ;) However, i'm pretty confident that once it's released, you will all agree that even with all the automation, that thing is still quite a handful. :) Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
ED Team Yo-Yo Posted February 11, 2012 ED Team Posted February 11, 2012 You need the other lever for mixture and then the slider for prop pitch would be my instinct. EDIT: I don't know if the P-51 had an adjustable prop. The most preferrable controls would be additionally RUDDER and ELEVATOR TRIM. Though it will be possible to use digital input, absolute axes are the best solution. cichlidfan Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 The most preferrable controls would be additionally RUDDER and ELEVATOR TRIM. Though it will be possible to use digital input, absolute axes are the best solution. Hmmm, I still have an unused Bodnar board. Absolute, as in levers/sliders/pots? effte Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Yo-Yo, of course... sometimes, the important things are taken for granted! At least elevator trim is (should be) all but a must. Rudder, well... can live without having it on an axis, unless it is found on the T/O roll that it's forgotten on the pre-takeoff. But by then it's probably too late anyway. :D I'm considering finally getting the Saitek trimmer, as well as two more throttle quadrants. Hey, I'd have the full set of B-17 engine controls next to the Warthog*! And not enough hands/fingers... where's that Saitek eff-O when you need him?! Cheers, Fred *) And another suggestion for medication from the second officer, or S.O. as they're otherwise known ----- Introduction to UTM/MGRS - Trying to get your head around what trim is, how it works and how to use it? - DCS helos vs the real world.

159th_Viper Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 :megalol: Do not take me too seriously at this stage in proceedings. As with all things, there are many ways to skin a cat.
