Does anybody know of a way to get a hold of the edm plug-in for 3dsMax 2008 64bit?

This ED wiki web page shows that it does exist and was available (http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/EDM_plugin), however, the link provided is broken. I already have 3dsMax 2008 and want to play with a few things before I decide if I want to get a more up to date version but I'm now stuck on needing this plug-in. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Plugins for 2008 are no longer supported; even if you found a version of it, they export into an older version of the .edm format

Thanks.....Yes, I'm aware of that. I'm not planning on doing any modding from there I'm simply looking to open edm files and look into a few things and see if I want to go ahead and purchase a newer version.

I found the plug-in anyways and it is working fine.

Oh, opening/ importing .edm files? No plugins support that

Ah....okay...the plug-in installed fine but I had not tried to open a edm file yet.

So there is no way to open and view from an edm file?

So does that mean that all and any model mods are made completely from scratch?

I figured people were opening some of the existing edm files and then modding them.

Thanks,

People might purchase models and then make the needed changes instead of starting from scratch but correct, plugins only allow for exporting, no importing or viewing within 3ds Max.

Okay, then if you own a model (I assume this means owning the module). Or do you mean purchasing say a P-51D 3D model separate from what is used on the DCS modules?

If it is the first one, and the model files come as edm files then what application would one use to open the edm to modify it?

Thanks,

Own/ purchase as in paying someone to do it or downloading from model sharing website (turbosquid, etc).

I have it on good authority that laminar research is about to release a 3ds max plugin for xplane that supports max 9-2017. Any chance of getting an update here?

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

No, I'm just trying to goad and shame the devs into updating this plugin before xplane who's never supported max adds a full range of max version support out of nowhere.

I can only say that the format for the edm is going to change with upcoming DirectX effects being coded. It can be seen in the export options in the latest plugin. The supposed format is *.eda

Also, the latest plugin shows new material types for ED specific PBR settings. Most AAA games are using PBR rendering technology now.

As I've mentioned in a previous post Max2017 uses new coding that 2016 or prior does not use. The current plugin needs to be rewritten; which I'm sure will take some time.

Technically, yes. But you almost never gain any benefit from using a version higher than the DCS version you're exporting to, and sometimes things won't work right.

Using the Latest Plugin isnt Recommended, as some functions will not display correctly in your model viewer or dcs build, and some things might not even export correctly.

would be nice to get plugin(s) for exporting/making .ref files/packages and a viewer to see/check exported models :egg:

▲ so no available public plugin(s) for 3DS-Max and Maya ?

the "do it yourself" will play role (again) ? :noexpression: :music_whistling:

What's the .ref file??

Hopefully with 2.5 they'll be updated plugins.
