jmod Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 (edited) Later in 2012, The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics will transition the DCS series to a core-based system. What do we mean by a core-based system? This means that the main DCS engine that includes the GUI interface will serve as the core that content modules plug into it. Such content could include vehicles, maps, campaigns, etc. This will allow purchased DCS content to be accessed through a single DCS core hub. Not only will this allow previous and future DCS aircraft to be fully integrated, but it will also allow 3rd party content to be easily integrated into the DCS series. According to new announcement, eventually we're going to have core based system. So, I think it's time to have separate thread discussing EDGE itself including news updates, technologies, screenshots, etc. Edited April 25, 2012 by jmod Let's fly together for the sake of peace :)

So, I think it's time to have separate thread discussing EDGE itself including news updates, technologies, screenshots, etc. I love the way you're implicitly dictating what ED's marketing / release schedule needs to be! Y'know this heavy handed statement is exactly why they're not talking as much this time round (compared to pre A-10C)?? 2 i7@3.5Ghz, ATI 5870, 16GB RAM, win7 64bit, TH2GO, Track-IR, 4screen pit, TM WArthog HOTAS
Kuky Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 funny how everyone wants to have their own thread to be this official thread for this and that ED will make their own thread about it when they want and have something to share, and most certainly it will not be in this thread 3 Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi MB | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC AIO 360 | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD x2 | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | HOTAS Cougar+MFG Crosswind ... and waiting on Pimax Crystal Super VR headset & DCS MiG-29A release
jmod Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 (edited) Well, it's an honer to make such a thread, but the main reason would be the place to share ideas about Eagle Dynamics Game Engine (EDGE)! I hope we can get a good SDK like CryENGINE: Technologies: http://mycryengine.com/index.php?conid=2 Performance: http://mycryengine.com/index.php?conid=50 Edited April 25, 2012 by jmod 1 Let's fly together for the sake of peace :)

ALDEGA Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 I hope they will create more realistic textures. DCS' textures look too perfect, cartoonish ... Could use some dirt, scratches, cracks, rust, chipped paint ... More variation in textures would also help prevent the "generic" look.
Ninefingers Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 (edited) I have a question: I understand that EDGE is a terrain engine and it has nothing to do with weather or other aspects in the sim, so are there any known plans to improve the physics or the rendering of clouds? 112th_Rossi Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 The ghost tree effect makes sense from a sim perspective. If you wanted to be able to collide with any individual tree in the game, imagine the collision detection computation requirements for all those thousands of trees. It's not something we really need, maybe with some around the airport, but not for every tree on the map.
