BS... And no it does not stand for BlackShark :P

I bought FC2 but didn't really play it as I am more in to the dcs series. I will buy FC3 and if it's all combined in dcs world chances are I will fly more aircraft other than just the DCS aircraft.

Last time I had my lock on disk was when FC2 came out, can't remember when that was released. I just had a look. Nowhere in sight and it would not surprise me if my wife threw it out with a stack of stuff that has been around for years that I have not looked at for as long.

if UBI don't check the country my visa was issued in or need my address then I will buy over a VPN for the extra $10. If I can't buy it there and knowing it's not sold retail in NZ then the chances are I won't buy it at all.

I understand the reasons but having to import at a good cost a retail version of the game in to the country to load fc3 will probably be beyond what I am willing to do.

My wife is an e'fn disaster at the moment. One kid was sick tonight and he was playing on the iPad so she asked if she should clean it with some isopropyl alcohol.

I said yes, it was around the corner on a small table. Next, I go upstairs and and see a 5L container of dichloromethane on the table. I say WTF, you didn't use that! yes she did, you told me it was on the right. Yes it was, along with the 99.8% sulphuric acid among other things. You have to read the bloody label. Why didn't the skull and crossbones put you off!!

Lucky I only lost a sim disk.

I don't know much about law, so this is going to be a silly post! :)

If I understand it correctly, Eagle Dynamics cannot use the airplane types used in Lockon in any Sim series they ever release, because of a contract with Ubisoft?

If they start a new company (eg. Pigeon Avionics) will they still be bound by that contract?

God forgives... Spyros doesn't.

They can - you just need LOMAC installed as verification as is the case at present with Flaming Cliffs 2.

They cannot use the airplanes in the LO series? Even though the model, the graphics, the GUI and everything else will be totally different? Is that true? So we will never see DCS: Su27 flanker?

Well, that sucks big time.

Is all this true?

I've been looking around for news and updates but I can't find many information...

My question is: What differences will be between FC2 and FC3 (in appart of DCSW integration)?

I already have FC2, what changes between the 2 softs can convice me to invest in FC3?

@PeterP

Ok even though your post is just a summary, so has a lot of ambiguity (eg. how is parts of code defined and to which parts as defined does it refer to), it basically says that the contract binds them for successors to Lockon (eg. Lockon - Flaming Cliffs, Lockon - Icy Lakes etc).

If that's correct, they can release DCS-Su25A for example without needing a Lockon CD, assuming that DCS cannot be considered a lockon successor.

Or they can still release simplified "DCS-lite" planes (eg. DCS F-15 lite), which is actually the equivalent of FC planes as long as it doesn't contradict the "parts of code" rule, without needing a CD.

God forgives... Spyros doesn't.

P.S. Has this been answered-explained in detail on the forum, or by someone with actual knowledge of the contract and not assumptions - personal interpretations (eg. ED team) ?

If there is a constraint on DCS types of aircraft, does it also apply to 3rd party DCS modules?

One question gives birth to another! :)

It's not about the Plane type, its about the code it uses.

All planes in FC still uses the code that was original made for Lomac (except the SU25-T -advanced FM; exclusively developed as addon ; now for free in DCS:World).

And the Lomac code does belong to UBISOFT.

I wouldn't expect that someone with exact knowledge would answer you here - that's simply not what you would do in this businesses.

How about russian FC2?

I newer had LOMAC, but i have LockOn:Flaming Cliffs 2 installed on my computer (russian digital version from 1C/Softclub). And it is completely standalone - no check for LOMAC/FC1.

That's because ED had a other publisher for the CIS countries and made a complete other contract.

Reminds me of the Tetris story in some kind of way- there where some lawsuits because it was sold to different publishers at the same time to absolute different conditions. A funny detail is that one of the ED/TFC producers played also a small role in it - guess who! (He appears in a interview)

Edit:

I'm Norrised by Nate again! ;)

@Mordhar

Assuming there's not technical aspect to your case, the contract might not apply to Russia or Russian version, but don't take my word for it.

My uneducated guess is that they cannot use anything that conflicts with LOMAC - IMO a DCS:-Su-27 Flanker module does not conflict with LOMAC.

Sounds logical and we all wish for that, although it's not so much about logic (or what seems logical to us... and maybe not to others) but what the document signed says.

A short official (ie. trustworthy) statement would clarify any rumours, so end users and developers can know what they can expect.

Not that it's too important anyway. Just being curious.

Hehe I can't agree on that, but it could lead to a long off topic discussion. :D

I'm 'autoquoting' because this question was... Ignored? Or just skipped after a page. Sorry to insist but are those informations already available? If not answered, I'll just wait and see. Thanks anyway.

LOMAC in Russia was by 1C not UBI - UBI hold the worldwide rights - except for Russia. So while it may be ok in Russia, UBI is still the spanner in the works for the rest of the world.

Couldn't they sell it online in "only Russia?" ;)

Maybe the concept of FC3 is nothing but a bunch of mid-fidelity aircraft add-ons for DCS World!

I hope DX11, and multi CPU - GPU support come to life with FC3. :)
