Cali Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 (edited) I'm really buying one this time! I'll be ordering parts next week, still looking to see what I'll get, but this is basically what I'm looking at. Money is in the bank, but leaving for a business trip June 4-13th and won't have time to start building til around June 16th anyway. Already put orders in with Newegg and Amazon and newegg is cheaper by about $40. Also thinking of getting a 32+ inch LCD TV to use as my main monitor. The price is under $1500 so far, not counting the new TV if I get one. Here it is, just ordered it, can't wait to put it together! joey45 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I might get the i7 version. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. AtaliaA1 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Overclocking would be fun on that system. But at 3.4 Default and those who do overclock state that anything running at 3.6 is hardly affected in gaming and everyday use it would be hardly worth the headache of getting all of the settings right. A (.2) is hardly going to affect anything. But alas it is the fun of running at a higher rating that motivates some to do so. This was a Boutique Builder iBuypower rig. EtherealN Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 3.6? Why 3.6? 3.6 is even below non-overclock for that CPU. That chip runs at 3.8GHz as standard when one core is loaded. Flip one single item in UEFI, and it does the same with all cores loaded. PoleCat Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Nice configuration. Should be very fast. I would only suggest that you consider an Asus board over a Gigabyte. Enjoy it. Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/

Kuky Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 (edited) ASUS motherboards are the best in my opinion, last 2 I had were ASUS and my next one will be also... and Cali, if you don't get that CPU running 24/7 overlcocked to at least 4GHz I will not talk to you... that's what a waste it will be running it not overclocked! And don't go cheap on PSU, rather spend $50 more on PSU and bit less on HDD/Monitor/RAM... and make sure you overclock that CPU :) Edited June 1, 2012 by Kuky PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
Boberro Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Nice rig! Personally I prefer Asus over GigaByte. I've been using it for years without any problems. I had GigaByte which continously broke often (usually once per month-two). That was nightmare. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
PoleCat Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 (edited) Good choice on mobo , much better than Asus I don't think so. Asus boards are generally best. Also Kuky is spot on for the PSU . Don't skimp. Take a good look at Gskill memory as well. Really inexpensive, fast and reliable. Out Edited June 1, 2012 by PoleCat http://www.104thphoenix.com/

hitman Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Make sure your psu is modular. I didnt and that was a big mistake. Im pretty certain that you picked the exact same psu I did....and its a wiring nightmare.
hitman Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Ivybridge.. nice!! and a GTX 670 very very nice. I would go for MSI though, its a bit cheaper than EVGA and has better cooling. You cant beat EVGAs warranty. You can literally tear them apart and return them so long as the board didnt get wet from any water based cooling system.
