Just out of curiosity... Is it possible to implement 3rd party sceneries as well, like with FSX, airport addons/enhancements and/or landscape sceneries? Not that I could do something like that myself, just asking... Out of curiosity... :)

I think the ED 3rd party policy extend to sceneries/War Theaters. To produce a good war theater it will be needed a lot (I mean a lot) of time investment, and the payable option will assure the quality expected by the community.

A good question. I read here only of the planned addon aircrafts for the old DCS World environment.

There are at least two people I know of doing scenery/terrain addons. Its just they are really slow cause its so time consuming and its usually only one person doing it.

3rd party maps would be good but I don't want to pay for improvements of current maps, I think they should be included in updates. Paying for improvements like in FSX will turn into a bottomless money pit and will become overwelming imo also like in FSX.

It would be every flight sim enthusiast wet dream to use a fully functional aircraft carrier for the upcoming 3rd partaay modules. I mean a working elevator, a catapult operator, a towing caddy, a payload stack draggable with animated WSO's wrestling the munitions on as you watch, a fire extinguisher, hell even meatballs control. But that is just me. I guess in the year of our Lord, 2025, this might be possible, with nVidia hitching a 21 Gb GPU, Intel springs a 48 GHz CPU, a motherboard with 256 GB ram slots, and a 100Terrabyte drive. A PSU with 15000 watt power, or nuclear/hydrogen actuated (sorry ED) PSU.. and on top a BD ray reader/write with games as much as 8 dual layered BD-discs requiring massive HDD space.

Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

There's already a comprehensive guide into map creation and terrain modelling available. AFAIK, this is also valid for DCS:World.

 

While I actually don't know it, I understand the SDK to focus on aircraft and object creation/modelling, but not Terrain (as there's already everything available). I might be wrong, though.

 

Tools have not been released for map making for the current game, not to mention the upcoming EDGE, which really makes it pointless to do too much...

 

Sure you could pick your region, and start the early stuff, but no way to get it into game ATM from my understanding.

I wouldn't mind doing KIAB and Smokey Hills Gun Range, but without tools I'll only be toying with USGS photo scenery and elevation data without a way to add it in as a TheatersOfWar.

 

I do suppose I could dig around the file structure of the beta 2 Nevada folder, but that's not EDGE and I'm not that intuitive at reverse engineering things.

If any naval fighters come out ed or a 3rd party should just make an ocean scenery, like pacific with no land. Would be easy to make

Have ED said anything about making their SDK for EDGE available? Either to licensed 3rd parties or anyone?

I'd love to be able to surf USGS and DEM data and just clip an arbitrary area of the map and churn it through a SDK and begin dropping Google warehouse building models on it and defining land class areas with a pen tool. Also properly import Openstreetmap vector data to help populate the map. That would be my ideal scenery SDK.

DCS Colombia escenary...It would be great for guerrilla operations, as in Afghanistan, with the advantage is that 80% of Colombia's jungle, would be almost a Vietnam ... jejej
