jander Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) Just thought i would share my Sim pit with everyone here since i pulled most of the ideas from here. First time working on anything wood, so not to bad! A big thanks to Dimebug for his free designs, sucked they were all metric, but converting wasnt to painful! Gotta love being stuck with standard. I can upload and email anyone all the conversions i did if anyone wants them. Now just have to wait and get some small monitors for the MFD's and I will be set. Then i suppose it will be on to the console switch building and the outer skin of the pit/plane so it looks like the real thing from the outside. after reworking on front console: after adding caution, dash switches and some other stuff: Edited February 17, 2013 by jander [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Aries Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Cool... great work... but, how does your HUD fare with two monitors? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ...the few, the proud, the remaining...
Cali Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Nice work, does the keyborad get in the way of seeing the MFD's? i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted July 12, 2012 ED Team Posted July 12, 2012 Looks nice ! I used two monitors for a while, but it was a over and under setup. How do you cope with the HUD in the middle of the screens ? Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Daze Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I'd get one 32" screen or something rather than 2 23" or w/e they are. Still looks better than my setup, though... :D Good job! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] First to Fight, First to Strike.
dimebug Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 maybe someone could make an Imperial version of the free design.
metalnwood Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 All Dimebugs measurements are in inches. Beware, he uses a default scale of 25.4:1
jander Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 Cool... great work... but, how does your HUD fare with two monitors? Usually I tend to just use one of them for the sim, while with the other i have up itunes or the flight manual or w/e Am wanting to hopefully put a projector of some sort behind dash to project gauges and what not perhaps, but mainly i wanted something that just wasn't for flight sims, but sorta multi-role, hence the keyboard tray that can move down just above the joystick to play and do other things. I tend to program alot so needed to have the multi-use ability. I also hope to upgrade at some point to a larger upper screen and than perhaps doing away with dual monitors all together, haven't quiet decided yet As far as getting in the way, the tray dose tend to get in the way, though i couldn't think of another way to mount the keyboard to keep it multi-use friendly....perhaps I will think of something one day LOL, or find something that would work far better than the tray on track. Cali Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Here is my pit, this is the only way I can use the kb myself. I have made some changes since then, but haven't posted the new pics. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=62079 i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
jander Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 Like your set up CALI, still gotta come up with something better for myself than what i have now, was "spure of the moment" to figure out how to do it but now that pit is built and operational have time to fine tune everything [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
jander Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 new work completed...for now! Well after some major overhauling of the front panel and making some switch panels the project has made quiet the transformation, and now not looking to bad. Have also added in the front console switches just no pictures of it yet, will upload some soon. :) :pilotfly: [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Hansolo Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 looks really nice. Did you put the MFCD bezels on with double sided tape. I am currently running a touch screen but am aiming for something like your setup to get better feedback when pushing the MFCD buttons. 132nd Virtual Wing homepage & 132nd Virtual Wing YouTube channel My DCS-BIOS sketches & Cockpit Album
jander Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 Yeah used some dbl sided tape at first I had it screw in top two hole on front console bit it made it hard to get screens to fit correctly so decided on screen itself was best solution [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
jander Posted March 23, 2013 Author Posted March 23, 2013 has been awhile since i updated; have built UFC finally, and am working to wire/put together rest of panels, but realized i need to rebuild both my consoles, as they are they will not hold the panels as would be preferred, so that will be next project. slow goes the love of the A-10c LOL. Cali Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 That looks good and that's a lot of wires! i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
Gremlin77 Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 quick question: what interface are you using? Isn't it possible to connect all the - poles of the switches and use only one wire for - pole to interface. Then you should need only half amount of wires.... visit my build thread Gremlin's A-10  http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86916

agrasyuk Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Looks pretty. but why not put the interface board into the UFC enclosure ? Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
Mr_Burns Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 That looks really great Jander  Your tactiles are with LED? Can you get these and how does the led work (obviously I understand how an LED works). I meant is the LED on a different circuit to the switch and could therefore be powered by a phidgets? (I think Groovy GG now do an LED board too).
Hypo Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Hi Jander What a brillant simulator. Great work. Can I suggest you seek out a Keytronic mini keyboard. This is what I use in our simulators. Hope this helps. ~S~ Hypo

Isn't it possible to connect all the - poles of the switches and use only one wire for - pole to interface. Then you should need only half amount of wires.... use one GPWIZ and a bodnar and phidget 64LED, indeed could have used single ground, but had the double stranded wire so might as well use. jander Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 That looks really great Jander  Your tactiles are with LED? Yeah are LED Tac switches, linden sent with UFC; they give off a yellowish glow so only really good for caution, used a 12v led strip to light box Looks pretty. but why not put the interface board into the UFC enclosure ? used what i had left in my GPWIZ to run two of the switches, and rest are on a bodnar board, so need "easy" access to the board to wire other panels and the like. I like having access to the boards to... [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
donbinator Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Hey jander, looks nice! I wonder how many more of us there are here in WA? It might be cool to have quarterly A-10C cockpit geek fest or something and share ideas etc.
jander Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 some new photos, has been awhile, moved offices again, recut consoles and ufc functional and in place [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
