Brisse Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 DCS World is now working in Vive and we are currently testing the VR game controllers for cockpit interaction. Interesting! From what I have seen, the Vive controllers have impressive accuracy, but I can imagine cockpit interaction would require crazy accuracy. I would be really impressed if this actually works well.

DerekSpeare Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 (edited) Is it wonky to use for you because you have to use two hands? The way I suggested requires only one hand. Could you not get it to work for you? It's wonky b/c I cannot see it with the Oculus on my face. It does the job and works just like I'd have hoped :) I'm going to see if I can bind some buttons to it so it's simpler to use - at least for me. As far as I'm concerned, I'm good with this...it works...and even if it's a bit wonky for me, I'm good to go :smartass: Anyone notice the rock solid FPS with the latest NVIDIA drivers? The one released (for GTX980, anyway) on Nov 4? Previously, Oil Rig landing was unplayable. Free flight was mostly OK until you got close to the ground. After the Nvidia update, it's locked at 75FPS. Anyone notice it? Now, I did add JSGME to add Polaris DCS profile, but I don't think that had anything to do with it. hsb I get smooth frame rates with everything mostly down on my GTX780. It's mostly 75. I can say that DCS 1.5 with the Oculus is the very best flight sim experience I have had in my nearly 30 years of doing it. DCS World is now working in Vive and we are currently testing the VR game controllers for cockpit interaction. hansangb Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 DerekSpeare, I was getting 75 on non-AI instant actions (in Huey, the same for A10). Free flights, 75 mostly and no issues. But when you fire up the Oil Rig Landing machine, it's immediately drops to 35 or so. Now with the update, it's rock solid at 75. I'm using GTX 980. In preparation for CV/Vive supporting SLI, I just purchased another 980. Let's hope my gamble pays off! :) But I do agree that DCS 1.5 *really* makes the game shine. I can't wait to try out Vive now that ED is testing it. hansangb Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I don't believe it does. I know that 1.5 supports SLI (for some anyway) when not using DK2. I'll let you know. Chivas Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Its awesome that DCS appears to be effectively implementing the HTC Vive headset. I may be able to fly DCS this year with a consumer version headset, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions about final specs of either unit Even if the specs are comparable it may be difficult to procure the Vive even if they manage the proposed "limited" release this year. Now that DCS is working with HTC, and Oculus, it would sure help to find out which unit the developers preferred but its unlikely they will suggest one way or the other anytime soon. :( We don't even know it they have access to later prototypes than the DK2.

DerekSpeare Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 (edited) Are there release notes somewhere stating that it's necessary to update to 0800 runtimes? And how does one manually update DCS? snowbird2 Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 I was kind of hoping we would get the Kneeboard back with this latest update. Looking forward to using this with the rift.
hannibal Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 hey you oculus owners.. i remember in the past pre 1.5, there were complaints about the shadows, in which the stereoscopy did not match up.. what are the shadows like in 1.5? thanks..! find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
Brisse Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 what are the shadows like in 1.5? I have heard the same complaints from people running 1.5 so it's probably still there, although I cannot confirm it myself because I don't have a VR headset yet. Waiting for the consumer version. Don't want some stupid prototype :)
derekb1948 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) With the latest update (Friday, 13th Nov.) the DK2 functions up to the loading of a mission but DCS World stops working every time before mission loading is complete (as it did on the first release of the Open Beta). Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have just seen that this has been reported as a bug. Edited November 14, 2015 by derekb1948 Problem has been reported
Zaxxar Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Occulus rift and snapviews Hi Rift users I have not got a Rift yet but am considering buying when released. 1) Could anyone tell me if the snapviews work with the rift? 2) if so does the cockpit mouse clicking work when in the snapview? Regards
vicx Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 What are the shadows like in 1.5? Shadows are fine but most people turn them off because even with a BEAST of a video card shadows (even flat ones) can at moments cause the framerate to drop and you really notice that in VR. In VR you need ALWAYS greater than 75FPS for EACH eye. That is 150FPS combined and the framerate should never drop below that. So rendering greater than 150fps with as close to zero latency as possible is hard. VR is very demanding. I have a GTX780 and I run with VISIB RANGE: LOW and SHADOWS: OFF. I can still run 2xMSSA which in my experience is worth doing. Could anyone tell me if the snapviews work with the rift? Snapviews don't work and in many ways go against the whole idea of VR anyway. Still if anyone has got them working ... tell me how.

Fltwrm Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) Can't get the DK2 to work with the latest DCS version. I have the "detect oculus rift" box checked. When i start a mission, there's like 7-8 activation key boxes appearing, after clicking exit on every one of them, the game loads on my monitor, just as if I didn't have a rift at all... Very annoying. Been trying for 2 hours to get it to work. Steam version. Runtime 0.8.0.0 Nvidia 358.91 Tried a bunch of different SDKs and Nvidia drivers. EDIT: activation stuff was a firewall issue. EDIT2: Rift worked after clicking "verify local files" or some-such in the steam menus :) Edited November 24, 2015 by Fltwrm
