Add me to the list of people that are being hit by Oculus' embarrassing product management. April date pushed to June.

Considering we're talking about Facebook here, that statement is a bit silly.

Perhaps, FB just owns OR, OR is its own entity and could easily fail while the book of face continues. My point was that to take two weeks to figure out shipping and give out actual dates and then not deliver again means customers leave.

Not my problem. I've had my CV1 since March 28.

There won't be a CV 2 this year, and probably not next year either. Could be wrong though. :)

Figured it out - will post to help others.

For some reason my "run.exe" had been set to compatibility mode for Windows Vista - I do not remember doing this but I could have for some other troubleshooting reason long ago.

When I turned this off DCS fired up in the DK2 first try!

Thanks for all help!

Open Oculus Home, Goto Settings, Turn off External Applications, then turn it back on.

Also Make Sure Detect Oculus Rift is Enabled in the DCS Settings.

Re-live the early days of space flight in this exciting, educational and fully interactive simulator. With full VR support.

Apollo 11 was awesome, definately going to check this out.

From the embarrassing website performance on launch date to product shortages etc this company is not instilling confidence at all

I'm really confused why they didn't leverage some FB server support on launch day.

Shhh! Don't rub it in for the normal reality peasants. :music_whistling:

Figured it out

Awesome! Enjoy!

I was flying the Huey some more last night and reached piloting nirvana. The real world melted away and I was fully in the helicopter. I could do anything I wanted. Spot land on anything, quick stop anywhere, rock solid hover, precise flight forwards/sideways/backwards. It's like all the sudden the dozens of hours I've been flying it suddenly clicked and I finally MASTERED it. :joystick:

Sure is. I can also reufuel the A-10 from 10% fuel to 100% in one shot. Never really could do that before.

Question for the computer gurus.....I ran the test program from Oculus before and was in spec to run the Rift. Nothing has changed on my system, I have a 970 graphics card. When I run the test now, it is saying I have a Intel 4600 Graphics card and that it wont run the Rift?????

Formation Flying, significantly easier.

Refueling, Light years Easier.

Positional Awareness is increased due to actual spatial depth.

Make a nVidia Profile for the compatibility tool and tell it to use Discrete graphics.

or just force global discrete graphics for the test.

Just pay attention to USB compatibility, that seems to be the #1 Issue on Oculus Forums, specific USB3.0 controllers do NOT like the rift, which forces you to use a USB2.0 Port..

I updated my Nvidia driver and it seems to be OK now. Just placed and order for the Rift....sometime in August is the estimated ship date. My concerns, and I guess we will see, are about target spotting and display readability....

My concerns, and I guess we will see, are about target spotting and display readability....

I think there's going to be widely varying opinions, but as one data point, here's mine:

HUD is pretty good, sometimes the smallest text (like waypoint info on A-10C) is harder, but still readable. MFD's are marginal, but I can usually make out the text or symbols. I think I can read it mostly because I know what to expect, it might be much harder to learn a new plane with it.

Target spotting seems inconsistent, I'm guessing it varies on lighting or terrain. Sometimes I can keep an eye on ground targets from 15K ft no problem, sometimes I can't see them at all and I just have to shoot where the TGP diamond was.

The instant action dogfights for the WWII planes has been pretty good (I have target enlargement on max), but it's much harder in the fast movers, outside 2nm is very hard to see. I tried to fly on the DoW server yesterday, I don't know if they use target enlargement or not, but I felt I was at a pretty severe disadvantage. It would be good to fly in a VR only session to even things up, or maybe have to allow labels. (gasp)

All in all, I think the resolution limitations are definately there, but the overall experience more than makes up for it. I'm just going to have to get used to changing up the way I'm used to flying.

Will do! :pilotfly:

Question for those who have the CV1: Can you remove the built-in speakers?

I got a request to the devs for Oculus implementation. Things that need improvement and shouldnt be too hard to realize:

1. Please dont stick the options windows (after you pressed ESC when you sit inside the aircraft) to the headmovement. On the far outer edges the text is readable but it can be very hard. If the options screen would just stay in the middle, one could read everything far better and do settings easy while wearing the CV1.

2. Please add some sort of zoom. Contactvisibility at long distances is there but trying to identify can be hard at higher distance. Some sort of Zoom/binoculars would be awesome and help with that.

3. 3D Mousecursor needs some love. I mean if thats possible. Right now i can see it slightly double. Klicking in the middle of both seems to help:)

I hope implementation of the oculus touch controllers once theyre released will solely solve the problem with that.

4. Not directly VR related but i dont want to make an extra thread on this so: I dont know how it is for the K4 and other planes (didnt get too try too much yet but will definately) when taxiing the FW 190 it felt a little too much "on rails". There should be really slight up and down movement when you roll over tiny craggedness in the rollway/runway.

Thanks!

Yes you can - easily. But i doubt you want since they are built into the SDK. So positional audio is great, soundquality is great and they are very comfortable to use. Many people dont know: The rift even has a built in mike thats working pretty well.

I read they are hiring staff for the creation of CV2. But i think hoping for a CV2 release during this year is delusional. I think the earlies realistic point would be to "hope" for something substantial on a CV2 by the end of next year.

The tech and processes used in CV1 are already cutting edge, it's going to be pretty hard to come up with a worthwhile improvement in a year, or even two.
