They can be flown manned or unmanned. It is probably not practical to remove that seat if you end up having to replace it with ballast.

Russia to See 20-Ton Combat Drone ‘by 2018’ – Industry Source

MOSCOW, October 3 (RIA Novosti) – The prototype of Russia’s first 20-ton combat drone will be unveiled in 2018, a defense industry source said Thursday. The 20-ton unmanned combat aerial vehicle is being developed by the Sukhoi company, and will be based on the fifth-generation T-50 fighter, United Aircraft Corporation president Mikhail Pogosyan said during the MAKS 2013 airshownear Moscow in August.

Pogosyan added that the drone was at a “preliminary research stage” and gave no indication of a timeline for development.

RIA Novosti’s anonymous source also confirmed Thursday that a five-ton drone, being developed by the Kazan-based Sokol company, would be ready in 2015-16.

"RAPTOR REBORN"

The US Air Force and Lockheed Martin are testing a host of upgrades for the service’s F-22 Raptor fleet at Edwards AFB, California, that promise to keep the stealthy fifth-generation fighter at the top of its game into the 2030s. The upgrades not only improve the Raptor’s safety with the addition of an automatic ground collision avoidance system (auto-GCAS) but also increase its already fearsome combat capabilities by adding new weapons and electronic warfare abilities.

Though acquisition of the F-22 was terminated after only 187 production aircraft and eight test articles were built, it is imperative that the service keeps this “pathetically small” fleet as modern as possible to counter emerging threats around the globe, says the commander of the USAF’s Air Combat Command (ACC) Gen Mike Hostage.

“It will be the pre-eminent airplane in the world into the 2030s, until we come out with whatever the next platform or capability is,” says Hostage, who flew the Raptor during a period in 2012 when the jet had problems with its life support system. “We have to keep it on its path; we have a good modernisation plan.”

German AF Eurofighters grounded because of potential ejection seat failure. (GER)

According to the article, a mechanic had forgotten to remove some caps deep within the ejection seat during routine maintenance so that the ejection seat would not have fired.

Now the entire fleet of German Eurofighters is being checked with 29 aircraft already cleared to fly. This particular problem was not found on any of them. Another 44 aircraft still have to be checked as of this weekend.

Romania confirms deal to purchase 12 PoAF F-16MLU for 15.5 million each unit. (the best they could pay).

Which leaves me in shock since we had to buy extra hulls from the USA and just updated them for a total 30 mil... wow

Whats even funny is that Romanians think it was a bad deal.

The Romanians are paying 420 mil more for infra structures and weapons.

This looks horrible, good to hear the pilots managed to bail out. Since the blades are still intact I guess they didnt use their ejection seats.
