Do you run/use any mods / modified files?

I'm curious to understand how many of us do. With advent of the auto updater running modified files is a bit of a challenge right now.

The updater, verifies files and moves modified files to a backup folder, effectively unistalling them. I understand ED's logic and I'm aware they have plans to make this process less painful for us.

This poll may help influence the priority placed upon this work.

Please vote, simple yes or no.

EDIT: One caveat, If you did run mods but have stopped now due to their removal by autoupdater, i suggest you vote yes. i.e if you ran mods in 1.2.0.

Modified export.lua and init scripts for indicators for Helios A-10C cockpit. It's a pain to have to go back in and change everything after each update ... hope they figure out a decent mods management schema.

I use pretty much only custom snapviews, labels and a bit of graphics.cfg tweaking to get better performace on my box. Are these considered mods to be overwriten with each auto update as well ?

edit : Oh, just updated and I see they are. Maybe the auto updater should backup only files that are actually changed in the last update.

PeterP's realistic eye point edit.

MaxFPS edit

View angle min/max to get rid of the fish eye and increase my zoom.

Turned off the warning horn .ogg file

Renamed the planewind sound files to turn them off.

Renamed 3 of the GETF engine sounds to get rid of some of the engine sounds in the cockpit.

An explosion edit, boom something or another that Mustang posted to maybe help with the explosion particle frame rate issue.

I have had to redo these several times since the auto updater was released. I guess I am in probably in the minority that is hoping that the auto updates stop soon. Not that I don't appreciate all of the improvements that have been made as of late...but it is a little tedious right now.

Thanks Mastiff

The link supplied by Mastiff is for Modman.. info below from lockon files.

Modman 7 DCSWorld, A-10C and Ka-50 v2 Patch

Description

Adds :

DCS World to Modman 7.3.0

DCS A-10C to Modman 7.3.0

DCS Ka-50 v2 to Modman 7.3.0

to install: unzip and copy the Modman folder to the drive where Modman 7.3 is installed, it will add the DCS WOrld,A-10C and DCS KA-50 v2 to the list, run Modman, select the game and it will create the folder for the mods.

restrictions:

use it ONLY to install simple mods, skins and tweaks for the A-10C

DON'T USE IT TO LAUNCH A-10C or Ka-50

Modman packages that insert lines into graphics.cfg do not work with A-10

Currently I run the following:

6DoF for the Su-25T

Ricardo's HD pit in Cyrillic for the Su-25T

A tweaked view.lua for the "Linda Blair" A-10C head rotation

zzzSpace's sound mod

I don't know how ModMan would work for the entries that I need to make to the server.lua and view.lua or I'd be willing to install it.

modman wont work for me it tells me to point it to root folder, and when I point it to it C:/Program files/Eagle dynamics/DCS world

it simply closes with an error message :helpsmilie:

just point it at the eagle dynamics part, should work. if not, go find your mod-man folder and open the log and see what it sees in the ini.

This smoke, which I think is a must: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1487523&postcount=51

And this soundpack: http://www.lockonfiles.com/index.php/files/category/422-complete-sound-packs/

But otherwise I leave it alone... I've got a little folder on my desktop with everything in its proper place I can just copy into the DCS World folder after each update, once I take a look at it to see what's changed and how it's running.

For when it goes wrong: Win10x64, GTX1080, Intel i7 @3.5 GHz, 32GB DDR3, Warthog HOTAS, Saitek combat rudder pedals, TrackIR 5 / Vive Pro, a case of Pabst, The Funk

Just run Helios and export the MFCD's and have a few little tweaks;

- Turn off the main screen MFDC's (saves a few FPS),

- Modify the engine noise, (gain from 0.53 to 0.15)

- use single trigger in Blackshark (cannon & all other weapons on joystick trigger),

- Set MaxFPS to 30

I use the smoke patch and the brilliant sunflare and sky-color-mod from Mustang and PeterP.

Also I tweaked the labels.
