This is what I got in my email:

We are very proud to announce that the

VRS TacPack for FSX is NOW SHIPPING!

(requires a pre-existing copy of the FSX Superbug, Windows 8 currently not supported)

The TacPack has finally arrived! The Tacpack is a complete A/A and A/G combat modification and multi-player infrastructure modification for FSX. Weapons ranging from AGMs to LGBs and guns are all modeled with realistic physics, performance, effects and lethality envelopes rivaling stand-alone simulators. Not only will you be able to take out AI aircraft in single-player, you'll be able to dogfight your friends (and enemies) multiplayer, take out SAM and AAA, or bomb a hostile airfield - all in free-flight. When the dust settles you'll be able to call for a tanker, fuel up behind an intelligent AI refueler flying dynamic racetrack patterns, then RTB to review the action (and lick your wounds) via TacView - an amazing ACMI playback system.

Exclusive TacPack Features:

Weapon Systems:

  • A/A and A/G missiles, ballistics and guided/unguided bombs.
  • Lethal to both aircraft (total or partial damage) and simobjects. Supports all the current systems carried by the VRS Superbug, with all associated avionic displays:
  • Realistic weapon ranges and maneuvering kinematics, dependent on engagement geometry.
  • As with the classic Superbug, any one of thousands of combinations of ordinance can be loaded, and the weight and drag of the weapon is simulated on the airframe and removed after launch.
  • Weapons are positioned on and fire from individual stations, not a generic aircraft centroid.
  • All systems work in FREE FLIGHT and do not require scripted missions.
  • Destructible objects include ships, aircraft, ground vehicles and simobject structures. If it's a simobject, you can lock it up and kill it. Note that the TacPack does not supply objects, these are present as part of your FSX installation.

Avionics:

Note: Experimental features are not guaranteed to work on all hardware/systems and no refunds will be given based on compatibility.

  • Fullscreen Night Vision
  • Padlock view
  • FLIR (ATFLIR) Simulation
  • AN/APG-73 Air-To-Ground radar simulation with full terrain masking
  • Massive Superbug avionic upgrades to support TacPack systems

ACMI Playback:

  • ACMI recorder for FSX, readable by Vyrtuoz's TacView
  • Can record flights in any aircraft, and records all aircraft present (AI and MP) in the simulation
  • Minimal FPS impact
  • Facilitates after-action debriefing/training

Multi-player Support:

  • Full multi-player functionality
  • Drop AI into sessions (see AI menu below)
  • Partial and critical damage modeling
  • IFF system for all AI and human players to facilitate division into teams
  • Anti-Cheating measures
  • MP Server browser

VRS AI Menu:

Note: The VRS AI menu system depends on vessels from your own inventory. VRS does not supply AI objects except for SAM and Drone components.

  • Deployable Aerial Refueling Tankers through an intuitive in-flight menu system (F-18E AI Tanker model supplied, other tanker models available as freeware and default FSX aircraft)
  • Deployable SAM installations can be placed, given a team, and become active threats visible on RWR and destructible
  • Deployable Target Drones can be placed and commanded into various patterns and behaviors
  • Deployable Vessels complete with navigational aids and point-defense systems (ship/carrier models not included, but available in default FSX Acceleration or Gold edition inventories)

Still on the fence if I should buy it or not. Price seems to be ok. though.

For you maybe ;) I still fly frequently in FSX.

@MTFDarkEagle don't get me wrong I do have the SuperBug also..and the A2A Simulations P-51 Mustang and I flew it every bloody day until the DCS-Mustang came...it is still nice..but it's just that spending some extra cash on a Mod is sort of mute since the core game engine is " Well let's say Obsolete "...no offense..it is still nice...but since I've gone to fully to DCS, I have removed all of my FSX and Mods...but enjoy..

Well, wake me up when DCS:World will be able to look as "obsolete" as this:

Plz don't turn this into a DCS vs TacPac kind of thread. Those never last long. ;)

Let's stick to news, that's what this forum section is for.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Please share with us why the A-10C/Ka-50/FC3/CA/etc.. are *not* purchased addons ;)

OT: Good stuff this.

It will for sure have the capability to look like a very nice sim when you put the addons in.

I do wonder if the photorealistic textures are the way to go though. Something like ORBX populates the world more with real objects. My only thoughts about that come from thinking how I would be using my TGP while scrolling around the landscape looking for 3d objects while constantly seeing flat 2d on the ground which I am sure will look a bit strange.

Will this work in P3D?

No. Maybe some day they will but with the limited info and comments from devs. I would expect a steep price for a p3D version. It's the only addon that has not worked for me with the FSXtoP3D tool so far. Pretty sure they intentionally did that but thats just speculation on my part.

The other issue is that Boeing doesn't want info they give to developers to be used in a Lockheed Martin sim so therefore we will probably never see it. Same thing with PMDG stuff. Just don't mention it on either of there sites or you'll be skinned alive for asking...

There are many photosceneries with 3D objects (not only landmarks but trees and common buildings) , though they are mostly limited to smaller areas like city or region.

I'm not a big fan of photosceneries myself, that one on my screenshot is ORBX, so these are not phototextures. But still, it's very nice to fly in the sim over area where you live in real life and recognize the place, and photosceneries make that possible.

Yes, I like the look of mixing photo with objects, I like photo scenery by itself from a bit og height.

I was just wondering purely from the perspective of hunting around for ages with your TGP or equivalent what the landscape would like doing that, I think it would look a little weird :)

Will this work in P3D?

'So with FSX officially "dead", and before anyone panics, yes, we plan to support Prepar3D. In fact we have a working copy of the TacPack for commercial customers already, and it is in testing concurrently with the FSX version. However we want FSX to continue to thrive because it will always be our bread and butter. It has a huge installed base, and nobody is going to "deactivate" existing copies.'

The above quote from the Tacpack devs so it looks like they will be supporting Prepar3d.

Some nice Tacpack carrier traps in this vid:-

This is great news that Tacpac is finally released, congrats VRS. For those that don't know you can find other servers using Tacpac it shows IP addresses so you can still find servers eventhough Gamespy is gone.

I was wondering about the gamespy issue thanks for the info , I got the add-on anyways just to support VRS. Hard to decide what to fly these days considering all the great flight sim products out there.

The only beef I have with FSX is it's poor framerate. DCS World runs great but FSX, no matter how low I set the settings, always feels sluggish and this kills the joy of flying in it..This is the reason I still haven't went for TacPack..

Hi,

Do you have a decent PC? If so I am more than happy to help your set up FSX to perform well. It takes about 10 mins and adds huge fps.

Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.

Hello,

Can you share your tips with the rest of us too? Thanks :joystick:

Guys, regarding support for non ED products, we respectfully ask you do this at the respective companies site or per PM. A friendly reminder what this forum is for (excerpt from the forum rules):

General discussion and product support of other titles does not belong here and should be moved to the appropriate publisher/developer website.

I don't want to break the forum rules, because as you can all see I am pretty close to a ban!! (just realised you can't actually see my warning level..)

For any civilian sim queries I would suggest anybody wanting advice goes over to www.avsim.com, and contacts me there. My name is Luke Bennett on those forums.

Provided you have okay hardware (obviously there are real world limitations on how smooth you can get fsx), I am more than happy to help any/all of you to get FSX running well.
