When I purchased DCS A-10 earlier this year, I downloaded and studied the manual for over a month before I started flying. I felt it was necessary in order to really understand the complexities of the aircraft, and it was time well spent. We've been left without any real manual in our newly rebooted survey sim FC3, so I need to ask some basic questions in the hope that somebody has an answer. Regarding the F-15C:

1. I find the HUD drift and color highly annoying. I can't seem to make the HUD dark enough to read in any color, and the drift means that I don't have critical information when I need it. I can't even read airspeed when I rotate. Does anyone know how to make the HUD dark enough to actually read or how to keep it centered??

2. The familiar nagivation cross from FC2 seems to have dissapeared in navigation mode, being replaced with a line. Not sure what that means, or how to deal with it. But, I can't seem to nagivate anymore.

3. The autopilot is just wacked, but I always thought the same in FC2 and I never used it. When I turn on the auto flight following with autothrust, my jet just flys a 360 circle. Also, it's not clear if you also need to engage an altitude hold in addition to the flight following, or if you can set the autothrust level (the jet always deploys the air brake when I engage it).

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, the various problems you describe are well known & irritating. ED is aware of them & I am sure will address them in updates in due course. Check the preliminary change log in the forum for the latest updates.

Looks like I'm headed back to FC2 for a better game experience. You can keep the graphics, but I do wish I had my $40 bucks back (same thing I wish after buying Combined Arms)! :P

Well I just bought FC3 with my eyes wide open. It is beta and medium (really lite IMHO) fidelity so you have to recognize these things going in. I am enjoying the fast jets in DCSW as a break from hardcore FBMS.

The HUD in old versions was fixed in the semi 3d cockpits/2d front panels in pre-DCS line. The new DCS standard HUD IMO is realistic and a reason why ED carried it over to the Lock on aircraft. I personally like it a lot. Although...I don't know why the HUD looks a bit more bright green than the mint green shown in many DCS videos.

The upcoming release moves to 2.2.3 which is a major change. Maybe they'll remove FC3 from beta

What are you actually complaining about? Because from my point of view, the only one you should be angry at is yourself for buying into a product at a stage that was clearly advertised as beta. Be a little careful about that attitude, it might just come around and bite you in the buttocks. ;)

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

I think by far the most interesting thing about FC3 and DCS world is how it has been crafted around the Americans. There is a thriving FC2 community, and probably more people playing that game. But, if you go there, everyone speaks Russian. Makes sense given who developed the FC series. DCS World seems to be an American reconstruction of this community. I don't think the Russians will ever join the club, especially since they have been slighted in their aircraft. :) I think both are interesting, but FC2 is definitely the better survey experience as of now. By the way, if I took people's money for incomplete work I'd be fired. If the product has glaring deficiencies, then they should be LISTED and ADVERTISED with the product. Beta is hardly an excuse. Tell us what we are getting before we buy it. Full disclosure. If anything, it will bite the developers as they establish a reputation for their work.

The head moncho is American.

The Devs are Russian.

The Publishers in Russia and CIS is Russian.*

The Publishers world wide are British.

*Last time I heard...:)

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Noone is dragged kicking and screaming to buy these products. Some of us are neither American nor Russian,so don't give a damn who is slighted. Keep your [edited] feelings to yourself.

Beta isn't an excuse.

If you pre-order the product, you get access to a beta as a thankyou. You're not purchasing the beta. If this does not seem agreeable to you, then you are of course free to wait until release with judging your purchase.

Would it be better with pre-orders that do not give you anything? Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm - except for specific promotions, this does not give beta access nor earlier access to the finished product. Company of Heroes 2 can be pre-purchased, no early access to anything, and with "2013" as the only release date specification. Another similar case I found on a quick look is Tomb Raider,

In these cases, I have not availed myself of the pre-purchase option. Others do. The difference is that in the case of FC3, you are rewarded with playable code immediately with your pre-purchase - that is the beta. If you don't want that, and don't want the problems that are inherent to beta code - don't use it.

Nav Mode:

There is a small line under the compass degree on the HUD compass for the Direction Track for your next waypoint, and the Line is for left or right of the course programmed for the navigation for the mission. If line is left of center, turn left to intercept. If right, turn right to intercept. As well, the HSI and the Compass in the console will tell you the same. The HSI will also tell you if you are above or below the assigned altitude for the nav waypoint. If the horizontal bar is high, you need to climb. If it's low, need to descend. This is what the autopilot for nav mode follows.
