I just finished this short movie (1.32min.)

It features the first simulator released by Eagle Dynamics in 1996: "Su27 Flanker" the graphic engine is now outdated but the playability is still great icon_smile.gif

The movie link (right click and save):

The movie size is about 4.7 meg and the codec used is Xvid.

Sorry for the high compression (low quality)

i'm limited to 5 meg. by my ISP storage space:-(

Yes, back then (Flanker 1.5 actually for me, but close enough) the Buk's missiles had the directional booster moddled, as you can see in the video. :)

That game gave me headaches though, I couldn't play for more than 1.5 hours.

Video is cool, very old school. :icon_weed

WOW!

Send it to me - I'll host it un-compressed (up to 100MB)

That was wicked, I never owned flanker so it was interesting to see it 0ld sk00l :D

There is STILL a copy of Flanker 1.5 on the bottom shelf of my local games shop . . . . and every time I go in, I debate whether it's worth £4.99 for a slice of gaming history.

However, I am having an experimental foray into the dark side - I just bought F4:AF instead :)

Just let me have one more BVR duel in a MiG at sunset before I install it . . . . :p

Thanks for the hosting offer ThowasDweiss, i will probably

make an uncompressed and longer version soon and upload it to your site:-)

Nice movie!

This movie is bringing so much memories...

What kind of software did you use to capture it? I was thinking about doing a movies from Flanker 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 snce I have them all and was looking for such a program. I see some FPS hits, so I suppose it will charge the hardware pretty much.

I downloaded the 1.5 from a russian site few months ago. I think it was from sukhoi.ru.

I used Rendersoft Camstudio 1.61 Air Tito but you need a fast computer to capture it at a decent framerate=AMD64 3000+ with1 gig of ram, i tried with my Celeron900 laptop and it was very choppy:-(

Not sure if you can still get CamStudio now,my copy date back to 2002 when it was freeware!

Also it will not works with Flanker 2.0 as it use DirectX

Direct3d ,for that you can try the latest version of Fraps,

the demo version can be downloaded for free but you are

limited to 30 sec of each capture and there is a text message at the top(can be cropped out with Virtual Dub)

Roger that! I'll see what I can do. I always wanted to have a series of movies from all of the ED's great sims with some nice music as a soundtrack. You made a good choice here- "Stavai, stavai strana ogromnaya!":)

what was the difference between flanker 1.0 and 1.5?

Aside from bug fixes, V1.5 came with a new mission pack. It also provided better gameplay. Among other things, SAMs were no longer sitting ducks. In V1.5, some SAMs could--oops!!--shoot down (remainder snipped to protect this thread). :D

Along with Shepski, I'll echo "Long live Su-27 Flanker v1.x!!!" In fact, Hornet1a's movie tugged at my heart strings. I just reinstalled V1.0 and upgraded to V1.5. A little light in the graphics department but...

thx 4 the info Iron

and I second your sayings, Hornet you really did bring good memories and touched the community. :)

I just want to share a memory about Flanker 1.0: I used to play with the demo before miraculously finding the game in a store, and I remember that it was almost impossible for me to land, I tried for many months, it was my first sim ever so I had to learn all the mechanics of flying jets, and one day, I did it, it was April 4th 1999, I was 11 years old at the time. I was happy for weeks after this :p
