Wow, that is some really cool stuff!

 

Any chance of a basic diagram that would highlight the basic attack angles as they relate specifically to DCS World? I mean, nothing crazy, just some basic stuff to keep in mind for the best possible results with the gun.

 

Thanks for what you have given thus far, really interesting stuff!

Yeah I had CM loaded, but I didn't think that the hit points were this detailed. I'll have to check when taking the tanks from the rear, and the type of MBT as well. Cheers

So far so good. I'm really enjoying DCS World. I was getting frustrated on 1.2.2 trying to complete the Overwatch mission. With the default weapons loadout, I really had to depend on my wingman to use some of his ordinance. Problem was, ordering him to attack targets at my SPI was pointless. He'd break formation after affirming my command, flying toward the SPI only to terminate his intent by rejoining.

 

In playing this mission, I have gotten really good at contacting JTAC, and in many fatal attempts at defeating this mission, watching replays became extremely helpful.

 

So..take aways/first impression of 1.2.3? Great stuff!

 

  • JTAC is now super strict...before I didn't wait for tasking, I didn't report contact the mark, or announce running in. I just fired and got "target destroyed". Now (1.2.3)...if I don't follow JTAC orders, I get abort abort abort. He even knows the second I pickle the weapon. Pretty smart JTAC in my opinion. He screams, YOU HAVE NO PERMISSION! of course once target is destroyed he says target destroyed. I'm not sure if points get taken away from me or anything but....I had the shot, and I took it :D
  • Wingman, still not that smart, but at least he flies to your SPI. So, sent my wingy after first AAA. He flies to my SPI alright...right over it and gets shot. When he is successful, he flies to SPI, announces target at 6 oclock for 6 (it's like, I know..I sent you there dummy)...then he flies away (I suppose gets setup for run in), then runs in...also...shooting when he almost on top of the target...not good...but hey...at least I can get him to engage.
  • AI ground targets. I've been flying Overwatch for a couple weeks now (in spare time) and I don't recall the AAA ever shooting at me. Now (1.2.3) you better be careful or you'll get one right in the keester, makes the pucker factor way better!
  • Watching the replay, I noticed the AI infantry shooting at my supply convoy after making the turn to the west. Infantry comes down from the trees to the North. The tracers coming from their guns was bouncing off the ground, kinda creating a fireworks looking effect. Being a QA guy by profession, this didn't seem right. Still enjoyed watching all the AI do their thing.
  • Before 1.2.3 (1.2.2) during a long session (1 hr maybe) my screen would just stop...go black, even though I hear sound, and eventually the screen would repaint and I was still flying...thank goodness I wasn't in a bad flight position when this happened. This is STILL the case in 1.2.3. I have others with this same problem for 1.2.2, so trusting you all know about this. I do have latest vid drivers etc. This is a bit frustrating when this happens.

As my flight time with 1.2.3 has been limited, I can tell that ED is committed to this sim and I look forward to a full on land sea air war someday soon. Great Job ED!!!! Keep it up!!!

 

Figure its time to join a squadron when I start getting upset at my dumb AI wingy.

Welcome HattoriHanzo. If you want to analyze what you're doing right and wrong, I recommend downloading Tacview. See the Community News section of this here forum. There is a free version, which loses some functionality after a timed period, but it still records your flights, shows you where not to fly (to an extent) and shows you what happened. It's quicker, easier, more accurate I think, but less pretty than watching tracks.

 

It won't help you with your JTAC obedience, but but it will show you why you did or did not get shot down.

I got tacview...love it. Thanks for the welcome. I have another account, it just doesn't work. Been on here for a while, just don't post much. I'm getting really geeked about this totally emersive sim and looking to join a squad soon as I think the wife won't have a cow.

 

I'm not sure that tacview would show me why AI was not obeying though...but to your point, tacview is most helpful in understanding your tactics. Love it with BMS!

Excellent!

 

As someone else mentioned, the SU-25T Flight director is behaving much better now.

But best of all is the awsome sound the SU-25T airbrakes make as they deploy.

(I have the KA50 and P-51 mods installed, but something about the quick dive in and hit something appeal of the SU-25T mod keeps me coming back again and again!)

Bullets bounce just fine on terrain. This is why firing discipline and the background for your fires is so important to military life and - even more so - to law enforcement.

Seems really good so far; does any know why the wing vortices were removed and have not been re-added ?

Check out this post by Erforce -- he has some good workarounds for wingman AI. Not sure if any of it has changed in 1.2.3.

I'm running a DCS client machine and a server. The server went on-line in January and both machines had been updated to Windows 8 Pro. The server is at a relative's who has a 60+MB Internet connection.

 

My confidence level in v1.2.3 keeps going up - and I think Win8 enhances that. My client machine has dual monitors - main for DCS and second for Teamspeak, etc. With v1.2.3 and Win8 I can now seamlessly switch the focus to either monitor and have not had ANY problems / disconnects - which happened frequently in prior versions if I clicked the mouse on the second monitor (usually by mistake).

 

It sure seems to me that the server is handling mission reloads well. Yesterday morning I successfully Disconnected from a mission and started the next one w/o exiting the DCS software - and the new mission was still running fine nine hours later. Before v1.2.3 I would always completely Exit DCS before starting it again to run the next mission.

 

All my DCS time is spent either building missions or in multiplayer. MP has been very stable on the client side, and No crashes on the server.

 

All prior issues I've had with upgrades are fixed in v1.2.3. The two new issues were taken care of quickly with support here on the forums. I do think the new Start Date feature is a bit wonky, but now I know how to adjust for seasonal Sun and Moon times - very cool.

 

The dozen or so missions I made are running fine in the new version - I do open them up and save them in the editor under the new version, along with a revision indicator that includes '123'. But no troubles this time, yea!

 

And ships are working again!

 

Plus, I am enjoying the Combined Arms roles of Ground Commander and JTAC.

yeah! its the shame that they were removed. They should have left them in as an ultra option for the water setting.

I think its amazing that people have the audacity to offer their own opinion on an update when they couldn't even conceive the work involved.

 

We are given this huge amount of work for free and yet people somehow still complain.

 

Until you spend your own time working on such an incredible piece of software and see what is actually involved you should be thankful that the developer even cares about updating their own product for which they already have your money.. Some developers don't

Much of this product is still in beta. If people couldn't give opinions certain things would never get fixed. Also this is a passionate community as you will soon find out, the odd bad apple don't have to much effect.

Still very early WIPS, but where it is on the ME page, the condition spinner with a % sign & entry box for scripts, and the variant with x of y, and x % might be clues to what the future holds ...

Hi all.

 

My initial impression is that ia units of helicopters can not take off or land from the naval units.

 

In version 1.2.2. this option was possible. Is it fixed in future updates?.
