I really like to do things by the book for maximum immersion but the manual doesn't give much information about how to fly like they do in the Air Force.

Does anyone have some kind of guide or manual that gives every procedure they have to follow when taking off, using the weapons, landing etc?

Perhaps weapon delivery is described well enough in the manual. To be honest, I'm particularly interested in the correct startup, taxi, take off and landing procedures. Maybe someone has a pilot handbook of some sort?

Taxi, takeoff, and landing are things that are generally not covered in the Dash-1...at least not in detail. In the Falcon world things like that are covered in online squadrons. I have yet to explore the online world for DCS but there may be some online A-10 squadrons out there that can help.

Well this Dash-1 sure seems to have step-by-step checklist procedures, beginning in Section 2. Now I can't speak to whether is every single step is correct, but I think it's about as "by the book" as we're going to get.

I think you'll find most of that (and a lot more) in TO 1A-10C-1 (the Dash-1), which you can download here:

Uhm,I would be very careful posting that on here. Not sure why it's available on the FedBiz website but I'm sure it's not for public release. Referencing an old A model -1 is one thing, providing a -1 that is less than a year old, not smart. Especially since I would guess since the wikileaks stuff the government is on the look out for stuff like this. The furloughs haven't started yet ;).

paulrkiii would know ;)

I'm completely ignorant on the A-10, but I know the HAF's 1997-issue F-16 Dash-1 fails to mention that an EPU check during INS alignment could potentially screw up the INS and thus it is usually done immediately after engine start, so you never know how accurate anything is going to be until you have info from real people who do the real thing.

Just google the name of the manual.

I don't see any references to the document being classified but it usually isn't a good idea to post as noted before.

It is interesting reading and similar to the DCS manual.

I think the OP was actually asking something that I also am curious about.

Is there somewhere where we can get basic procedures such as the communication used when taxing, taking off, approaching etc etc?

In other words the one that tells us not to say, "Hey Joe in the tower, can I drive to the runway now?"

When it comes to basic aviation matters, military aviation is no different to civil aviation. Just read up on general aviation practices and procedures.

There are also plenty of mil publications publicly available covering basic flight procedures & regulations as well as training programs.

There are even combat training publications out there which cover the basics of weapon delivery. What you won't find however are the likes of the -34 (avionics manual) and especially 3-1 and 3-3 which are the tactical employment manuals, they are either classified or otherwise protected.

And please understand, being "classified" is not the only type of protection assigned to documents. Many that are unclassified are still protected under ITAR or FOUO etc. Very little material is actually "classified".

And as people have clearly missed it, check the stickies in this very forum. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1015425&postcount=3

Not classified but the bottom of the cover, which I'm sure no one reads states:

Direct Military Support - The document contains export-controlled technical data of such military significance that release for purposes other than direct support of DoD approved activities may jeopardize an important operational military advantage of the United States. Designation of such data is made by competent authority in accordance with DoD Directive 5230.25 (20 November 2012).

WARNING - This document contains technical data whose export is restricted by the Arms Export Control Act (Title 22, U.S.C. 2751 et seq.) or Executive Order 12470. Nothing a quick Google search for the documents won't sort out.

By following the real start up procedure I don't have to click on the ack "acknowledge" LSK on the MFCD. The DCS manual doesn't let you know that you should wait min 2 minutes until after your INS is aligned to perform your self test, also that (although not implemented) that you should wait to shut down your APU for (I don't remember how many minutes) after APU generator disconnect due to cooling issues. I walked through step by step the procedures and a lot of the buttons are in the incorrect position for flight (I'm sure not all those are implemented).

There must be something missing on the DCS start up because even when you let the auto start do it's thing, it's more of a scramble start instead of a full start.

None of this strikes me as anything that ought to be sensitive nor restricted any longer. The Hawg has been out so long I doubt there are any secrets remianing about how it functions and, really, of what practical use is this info to the Bad Guys anyhow...?

Very useful. For example, During the Balkan campaign, our ROE was broadcast in the clear to the inbound jets as a reminder. Within a couple days, the Serbs made use of the information to avoid air strikes by using civilian vehicles, etc. knowing that we could not fire on them. Read "A-10's Over Kosovo" for the details. It is a perfect example of what happens when communication security is breached. There is a free .pdf of it here: http://aupress.au.af.mil/digital/pdf/book/b_0090_haave_haun_a10s_over_kosovo.pdf Our ROE wasn't actually classified, but it's dissemination certainly caused a lot of harm.

I really wouldn't want the wrong people in certain areas we are currently operating in to know the limitations of the current A10c, or it's vulnerabilities. There are plenty of governments we are not currently engaged with who really shouldn't know, either.

As was already mentioned, a document doesn't need to be classified to be restricted information. If anyone has an interest, here's the link to the wiki article on it that gives a pretty good summary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classified_information

That document has been available for worldwide download on a public US government website for the past several months. So it certainly doesn't seem like they're trying to restrict its distribution. If there really was some information in the document they would prefer to keep under wraps, well...that cat long ago escaped from the bag.

However, I removed the link to the site as soon there was some concern as to whether it should be reposted. It wasn't my intent to cause any problems. I was just trying to pass along some information that was useful to me when I too was looking for some "by the book" procedures.
