DCS 1.2.4 Development

?ui=2&ik=71bf459f07&view=att&th=13d8c3d91842309d&attid=0.4&disp=emb&zw&atsh=1

With version 1.2.3 now available, work is underway on version 1.2.4. The primary focus of this next version will be:

1 - Further improvements to network play and stability

2 - Coincide with the release of DCS: UH-1 Huey

3 - Improvements to air-to-air missile performance

4 - Changes and adjustments to beyond visual range combat systems

5 - Further GUI improvements

Moving to 64-bit Operating Systems Only

As we move forward improving the DCS World environment, we are more and more often running into roadblocks that prevent us from doing so due to supporting 32 bit operating systems. This includes larger and more populated worlds with greater terrain mesh details and textures. By moving to 64 bit support only, we will be able solve this and allow larger missions with more units, and it will allow us to improve visual effects.

This change will be coming in the next few months.

The Future of DCS

Currently the team is focused on completing Flaming Cliffs 3 and continued updates and improvements to DCS World. Once Flaming Cliffs 3 is complete, more of our focus will shift to upcoming DCS titles like the F-15C, F/A-18C and Fw-190D9. Looking further out, Eagle Dynamics and our partners plan a large number of new modules that include the Su-27SM, F-86F, MiG-15Bis, MiG-21Bis, Hawk, Mi-8, Mi-24, OH-58 and AH-1G, to just name a few.

?ui=2&ik=71bf459f07&view=att&th=13d8c3d91842309d&attid=0.6&disp=emb&zw&atsh=1

The team is also hard at work on many updates and changes to our world rendering system, which will allow us to make new and much more detailed worlds than we have now, including the Nevada map. We hope to have these changes in place before the end of the year.

With the combination of a large and varied stable of aircraft, along with upcoming new maps, we will continue moving forward toward our goal of DCS World allowing combat missions over a wide array of time periods and locations. While our products initially started with a focus on modern day jets, this is now expanding to include World War 2, Korea, Vietnam and modern day content.

Sincerely,

The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics Team

Thanks for the update Groove, nice to know whats going on in the bowels of ED.

In the short term I am looking forward to the HUEY (or the Iroquois as we called them down under), along with the much needed A-A missle fixes. For the future the OH-58 (we called then Kiowa) and AH-1G sounds like great additions to the stable.

Doesn't sound like EDGE/Nevada is just around the corner but sounds like the improvements it will bring will take us to the next level. Hope that includes much bigger maps...

With all these new modules coming out in the next few years I'm glad we are going to have the house paid off this year!!!

Yeah, if your hanging on to 32bit OS, why? (serious question for anyone who still is)

Agreed!! Some may gripe about being left behind, but if we expect greater detail, larger maps, greater MP stability, larger scenarios, etc. then the 32 bit OS will have to be left behind. I for one welcome the focus on the 64 bit OS and look forward to a better DCS World!!

Agreed, exactly my personal opinion.

Well the 32-bit really depends on the hardware to be honest.

However I guess it's time for some people to upgrade to get the best out of the sim.

As the first 64bit CPU was released in 2003, (Athlon 64 from AMD), it's time to make 64bits exclusive binary for the application that struggle with 32bit. 64bit CPU is the norm now. If someone is still running 32bit CPU, it's greatly time to upgrade.

Great decision, ED. It's definitely a step forward. Thank you.

And thanks Groove for the update.

Edit: and I'm really curious and impatient about EDGE.

Can't believe the day has come when ED would let a partner do the 27. :(

They said ED and partners. So we don't know who will be exactly responsible for SU27SM yet.

If you take a very close look in the newsletter, you'll see a Huey cockpit screenshot :P

I cant believe, that there is somebody out there still using 32bit only hardware for DCS flying

I think there is no profit in developing a 32bit part of DCS, so finally only 64b.

Exciting news.

Can they address multicore support also?

My last understanding was only two core support was used?

This would assist with particle effects also wouldn't it?

Aye. If I'm correct nowadays if you buy a copy of windows it ships with both a 32 bit and a 64 bit version. .

I am afraid you are incorrect.

Windows 8 System Builder OEM DVD 32-Bit

EDIT: I have 3 copies of Win 8-64 and none of them appear to have any ability to install a 32 bit version.

From the product descriptions:

Windows 8 System Builder DVD 32-Bit can be installed on personal computers with a 32 bit or 64 bit capable processor.

Windows 8 System Builder DVD 64-Bit can be installed on personal computers with a 64 bit capable processor.
