_Dredd Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Hey guys, I'm curious if you could list your favourite suppliers or recommended sites where you've bought toggle switches and push buttons. I've been through many posts but hoping people could list links in this post away from simpit progress threads to keep it clean. I've been looking at aliexpress http://www.aliexpress.com/where you can buy bulk. Not exact milspec replica; but good value to get started on simpit building and having plenty of hardware. Where do you buy your bulk and single components from? Standard and Milspec. agrasyuk Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Most of my switches came direct from China via eBay. Other then that I used mouser.com and Newark.com for couple items here and there. Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project

Sabre-TLA Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I have ordered from digikey.ca. Quick shipping and the prices were reasonable IMHO. MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
metalnwood Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 For people outside of the states digikey is good because if you spend over a $$ limit, I think it worked out to be around 120nzd then shipping is free and it only takes3-4 days to get to the other side of the world $120 is a good figure because it keeps it under gst for some countries and if you place a bigger order just split it up because the free shipping and get multiple packages under the GST threshold:)

Still trying to find some tactile buttons and caps for UFC and misc.. metalnwood Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 if you search on ali express you will find a lot of tactile ones for 5 cents. If you want better quality then I would keep to digikey or similar so you know when they say 300,000 cycles thats what it is. A bit more expensive but OK.

Avilator Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I'll throw in another vote for digikey. I like the part sorting/filter system they use. Super cheap!! http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/category/730/Switches-Toggle/1.html I have a place nearby where I get things when I want them same day but I wouldny be keen on buying 60 switches for a pit at > $3 a switch  Thats where the chinese are wallet friendly.
MacFevre Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I have a place nearby where I get things when I want them same day but I wouldny be keen on buying 60 switches for a pit at > $3 a switch  Thats where the chinese are wallet friendly. I use all my really cheap toggles on the panels that are either non-functional or not used that often. (IFF, EFCP, etc.) Otherwise, Linden has set me up pretty well in nice switches. Don't mean to hijack, but anyone know of what I could use to "replicate" the look of magnetic switches? (And I'm assuming they're only the mag switches.) They have an orange boot that can be seen between the switch and panel. metalnwood Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 There is cheap and then cheap. I know the $1 units from china are the same as the more expensive ones going for around $3 outside of china. You have to make sure of course but it seems that this is the markup on them. MacFevre, what part do you mean exactly about the look? Do you mean the longer different shaped toggle that is on it? I have done a quick search around for sleeves but come up short. I did think about grinding a specialised tool to use on the lathe to make sleeves but not sure I can be bothered.
MacFevre Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 No, not quite. Though I'm always looking around for ones like that, that don't cost an outrageous price. The ones I'm thinking of look like this, so they have this effect: (Anyone know how to make the pictures as thumbnails instead of full size??) metalnwood Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I see, nope, the cheapest way I know of doing that is with red paint :)
JG14_Smil Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Just attach the picture and it will be in a thumbnail. (nothing wrong with the size of your pics though)
Deadman Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) for those of you that want new sealed mil spec i have found Vertical to be a reasonable priced supplier when they have stock MS24523-23 https://www.verical.com/part/123707?gclid=CNO6gdvCvLcCFSJqMgodsTEA0A#searchName=&searchTerm=123707&_i_=1&landingPage=catalogItemView&searchCriterion=mpnIDs you can all so use the switch part numbers from my thread to check on other switches there or you could hit eBay but these don't seam to have the nuts and washers a bit of a pain in the ass for vey little savings http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-OF-12-MICRO-SWITCH-TOGGLE-SWITCH-1TL1-3-USED-/230960967030?pt=BI_Control_Systems_PLCs&hash=item35c658ad76 Edited May 30, 2013 by Deadman https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
