SkateZilla Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I was kinda wondering what steam was doing, i was playing some other games and steam kept bothering with me about download speed, lol. Hamblue Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I'm curious about 1.2.6 beta. Maybe this is how they are going to make the switch to 64 bit only. Giving the option allows 32 bit users to stay where they are. 64 bit only option has the ability to beta. Asus Sabertooth P67 Motherboard 2600k CPU, 16 gig DDR3, 1600. Gary Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I am wondering how long before every Steam user can't get into an MP server because of this As was originally stated...most testers have multiple installs. Unless it does mess with your current 1.2.5 install to fall back on (which seems highly unlikely) everyone should be ok surely? Just stick to 1.2.5 for MP unless of course you are testing 1.2.6 Seems pretty straightforward to me... Regards, Gary I5 - 1TB SSHD, 256 SSD - Nvidia 1070 - 16gb ram - CV1
cichlidfan Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 So Steam is not going to overwrite a user's v1.2.5 Steam install? Gary Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 So Steam is not going to overwrite a user's v1.2.5 Steam install? I have no idea frankly - never used steam. If you know the answer perhaps post it here to save some trying it out and running the risk of screwing their good 1.2.5 install? Regards, Gary I5 - 1TB SSHD, 256 SSD - Nvidia 1070 - 16gb ram - CV1
ED Team NineLine Posted August 24, 2013 ED Team Posted August 24, 2013 As of right now, if you download the beta it will change your 1.2.5 to 1.2.6, again, the reason we are asking for everyone to just hold on :) We dont want people to mess their installs up. I dont know how it works with Steam as far as rolling back. So Steam is not going to overwrite a user's v1.2.5 Steam install? cichlidfan Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) I am saying that Steam will only maintain one install of a given game. Updates are also automatic unless you specifically disable them. There is also an option to opt in for beta downloads but that still updates the same game. That assumes that Steam knows that this is a beta, which is unlikely since nobody appears to be managing the process. EDIT: I do have it on good authority that this is an update on Steam, not just a version number mixup, and it contains wing vortex effects. 71st_Mastiff Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 you can go back to the non-beta; steam will update it back to the original if you opt out of the beta in the properties tab where you turned it on. "any failure you meet, is never a defeat; merely a set up for a greater come back", W Forbes. remon Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Go to your steam library, right click on the DCS World entry and select the Properties option. There's a tab named Betas, with a drop down menu named "Select the beta you would like to opt in". Then you can chose the openbeta. Do mind that the download isn't small, about 860 MB. If you want to return to 1.25 you just go to the same drop down menu and select NONE. It should redownload just the files that were changed in the beta update. So, it does overwrite, but going back isn't a fuss. Or at least that's what happens with most other games that are in beta. Arma 3 works this way for example. There's a development build that gets small patches daily, and a stable release that gets all of those small patches at once whenever they're sure the develompent build is stable enough. And you can change between the stable release and the development build easily.

ED Team c0ff Posted December 18, 2013 ED Team Posted December 18, 2013 OpenBeta is available on Steam in the openbeta branch. (It's in the Steam menu, in BETA tab).
