- IMPORTANT - please do NOT use version 5.32 or lower with 1.2.9 or you will get a CTD!

Mustang,

Please can you explain to me the word: CTD ?

Thanks in advance, Skull.

What do you guys think of the star brightness in v5.34? is it ok or does it need tuning down some?

The sky at night looks like a night in the desert, bright and clear...a very desolate place away from the city lights during the summer when there are no clouds or haze.

So...the brightness is spot on, in my opinion, for that specific scenario, but in most scenarios stars are quite a bit dimmer.

v5.35 is up, made some nice little enhancements to cold HDR mode, worth checking out :)

I agree, in v5.35 i have reduced brightness by a small amount, levels should look just about right now.

I was convinced Warm HDR was the best, but comparing them again I am starting to think the Cold one is most realistic now? What do you think? Which one do you use Mustang?

1st is Normal

2nd is Cold

3rd is Warm

Thanks for this Mustang.

I seem to recall previously you incorporated PeterP's HDR with fix for the flashing white dots we get with ATI cards when enabling HDR (HDR with a 'D' like Dynamic for DCS WORLD) but your recent version with his HDR merged resulted in the white flashing dots again, so maybe the version you merged didn't have the fix.

If you could possibly merge his fix with your mod in future that would be great, as I know they share some files so I can't just enable his mod on top of yours without partly breaking it.

EDIT: Actually, looking at the thread for that mod, I can't see any mention of a fix for the flashing white boxes, so maybe it was another mod?

If i could find out what PeterP edited to remove the flashing boxes i would merge it to the hdr.fx file in my package - doveman, could you maybe upload the PeterP hdr.fx so i can check it out plz?

Don´t you find Cold one a little blurry?

I think Normal is the most sharp and best looking one.

Thanks Mustang. I tracked the fix down to this post http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1865107&postcount=110

He doesn't explain exactly what he did to fix it but the rar contains "HDR with a 'D' like Dynamic for DCS WORLD" and "Version for HD 69XX GPU Users" (it seems to only affect 69xx users, as PeterP was using his 7950 without having this problem).

I compared the hdr.fx and that just seems to have two lines modified, line 313 is commented out and replaced at line 314 with

float mask = clamp(lGlow * pow(abs(0.0), glowRadius), 0.0, 0.6) * 0.8 * (1.0 - clamp(SunPower, 0.6, 1.0));

and line 334 (or 335, depending on line spacing) "composite = composite + blur;" is commented out. So assuming the fix is just in that file, that appears to be the only changes required.

I'll try making those edits to your mod and check if that fixes it, as you probably don't have a 69xx card to test it with. Hopefully those edits don't negatively affect anything for anyone else, as it would be great if you could incorporate it into your releases but if not, I appreciate it would be a bit of a pain to have to make two versions of every release.

I agree with you. Everything should be sharp for the eye where you look at close and far. Except ofcourse things like heatblur.

I wish the blur can be tweaked out this HDR setting. And keeping the good things from it.

Is it possible?

[EDIT] I edited hdr.lua in (../config/effects/Posteffects) and have set the blur value to 0.0

Personally, I think it looks much better now. I use the cold HDR setting, but I need to adjust sweetfx to have a better intensity and colour filtering.

Blur as it is being used as a masking technique has nothing to do with reality as it is masking problematic or cheap graphic quality issues. Like the old soap episodes from Dallas, a masktechnique for rimples xD

(uh... I had to watch a few times from my older sister when I was a kid.. ;))

@Mustang Thanks for the improvements over the last versions.

I have uploaded v5.38 in first post - i have merged those lines from the hdr.fx PeterP edit, see if it works.

Thanks. I did the edits myself first and tested and then tested with your v.538 standard and it works great
