Ramsay Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 I bought the A-10A and Su-25 in the Steam sale and was caught out when steam ran out of keys due to demand. I gave Steam version a test as the UH-1H beta is now supported. After checking another game in the Steam Charts I was surprised to see only 6 people playing DCS:W. Are these figures accurate? Are we buying on steam to play in the stand alone or are we really such a small segment ? Where are the new Steam players attracted by the sale? i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
RetroBurn Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 I have steam, but not for this game. If given a choice, I'd go with the stand alone product. Win 7 HE / GigaByte Z68AP-D3 / i5-2500K 3.30 GHz / 16Gb RAM / GTX 570 2.5GB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Devrim Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Today I intended to download DCS World from Steam. But I couldn't see and be sure about the version of it. cichlidfan Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 I am a Steam user but DCS has been outside of Steam, on my machine, for 2 1/2 years so I see no reason to change. Tetra Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Would be very surprised if those figures were accurate, I highly doubt they are. I love steam, have plenty of titles on my account, however DCS will never be one of them, there is no advantage (at this point at least) for me to move my standalone install over. Ramsay Posted September 14, 2013 Author Posted September 14, 2013 Steams not tracking DCS at the moment so the stats are incorrect. Thanks, I should have guessed as steams not logging play time correctly (known issue). @ Devrim The steam version is kept in sinc. with the ED update so as to maintain MP Compatibility. The current ver. is 1.2.6.17746 i9 9900K @4.8GHz, 64GB DDR4, RTX4070 12GB, 1+2TB NVMe, 6+4TB HD, 4+1TB SSD, Winwing Orion 2 F-15EX Throttle + F-16EX Stick, TPR Pedals, TIR5, Win 11 Pro x64, Odyssey G93SC 5120X1440
SyntaxError Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Eh I use Steam for CS:GO and talking to a few friends but other than that DCS stays out. F/A-18C - A-10C - FC3 - L-39C/ZA - Ka-50 - UH-1H - Mi-8MTV2 - F-86F - Spitfire - P-51D - P-47D - BF-109K - CA
upupandaway Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Same here. Steam offers no added funtionality or convenience to DCS as far as I´m concerned. DCS is just fine like this. It would be interesting though to have some statistical data about how many play DCS and when once it´s being tracked properly. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Deedle, deedle!
JackDant Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Are these figures accurate? Are we buying on steam to play in the stand alone or are we really such a small segment ? Where are the new Steam players attracted by the sale? Others have said, but to expand: starting DCS from Steam only runs a launcher that quits instantly. On the Steam status I show up as "Playing DCS World" for a couple seconds. I'm sure the first version of DCS:W for Steam worked properly, and I think I remember using the steam overlay to chat.
cichlidfan Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 I'm sure the first version of DCS:W for Steam worked properly, and I think I remember using the steam overlay to chat. This is the first version of DCS World for Steam (technically the second since it was at v1.2.5 when it was released on Steam). Black Shark and DCS: A-10 were both available as standalone games in the past though I seem to recall that the overlay did not work with DCS A-10C. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Feuerfalke Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Apparently Steam only tracks the time the launcher is started. Knowing that, 22 people starting the game at the same time doesn't sound quite bad! If it's technically the second, then it can't be the first. But actually, it's at least the third. There was one initial release of 1.2.5 on Steam that had a working Steam integration. Then there was at least one hotfix to 1.2.5, maybe more, and at some point the integration broke. Then 1.2.6 was released with the same broken integration.
mmaruda Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Personally I prefer standalone rather than Steam if I have a choice, but recently almost every game I play is Steam based. If there was some sort of benefit from using Steam (dunno, add achievements maybe?) and all titles (betas) would be included, I'd probably switch just for the update convenience.
71st_Mastiff Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 not sure; I see close to 5.8 million people using it. and only the 2 people that own DCS. lol old Radio listener joke. :music_whistling: "any failure you meet, is never a defeat; merely a set up for a greater come back", W Forbes. Rusty_M Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 The reason I don't use Steam for my DCS install is I have Flaming Cliffs 3, making it easier to use it without Steam. I use it for many other games. The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming
