And I'd LOVE to see a B-17F ...

After the P-51D we have now, the Spit and the One 'O Nine ya know ... no need to make all WWII planes, we first need to fill the blank areas ... and fighters are fun to fly... but blowing everything up in a 25 ships formation from 35 000 Ft with a complex four engined aluminum marvel, filled with 10 guys, and many mechanical systems to watch for ( turbos etc ... ) is really exciting, In my opinion...

Starting in the dirty and muddy countryside airfields in England, and doing long missions over France and Northern Germany ... :smartass:

A flyable B17 is a massive project, I'd rather RRG didn't get bogged down with it currently.

I'd like to see the 4 promised planes, SP campaigns, MP and and a decent sized map working then RRG can move on to other stuff.

Yup.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

I'm sorry, but i read your post and laughed a little bit. I mean you have played DCS before right. I suppose its nice to dream, but thats a huge stretch. Edge will have to bring massive performance improvements before you could hope to pack 25 large detailed plane models in close proximity, and contrailing. Then you proposed at least 250 clients, on a DCS server. Besides the very probable various technical limitations, that would probably require the entire IL2 fanbase to move to DCS, and having most being content with non-pilot roles. That's before accounting for the fighter escort package, opposing force, and a crap load of MP coordination.

Glad you laughed ;-) ...

Two things

- The day human will stop dreaming, we can say bye bye to technological progress

- I didn't meant ( sorry if it was interpreted like that ) each crewmen being a human player. But at least a pilot and a bomber per ship ... Then through updated things could improve significantly...

Luthier is a huge dreamer to ask so much money for a future project, but I'm convinced it's a nice way to dream, and that this dream will come true in the years to come ...

And yeah, I play Lock On since 2003, and DCS since Black Shark

Cheers

For sure, Accusim made a masterpiece with their B-17G

But it is FSX, and the Fortress is a war machine... nowadays, it has its place here, in DCS World, or in other high end combat flight sim ( and it is the only one I know yet ... )

Never said to stop dreaming, just going by the evidence of current and trending DCS behavior, some things are likely to be unattainable at least in our lifetime. Yeah a base target of 50 instead of 250 is at least somewhat conceivable.

I've just started flying medium bombers in Cliffs of Dover (Blenheim IV, especially) and I must say... I'm hooked!

The level of teamwork required when multiple bombers are flying together in formation is just astounding, and it's one of the greatest challenges I've seen yet in a flight simulator.

If the B-17 ever happens, count me in.

A kickstarter for this aircraft needs to happen.

Granted, fighters are fun. But flying bombers is a whole other experience that can be just as satisfying. And that's coming from a guy who once said "there's no way in hell I'm ever gonna fly a bomber. Ever."

As you may have guessed, I reconsidered my position and I find that it'd be a real shame not to include at least 1 of these heavy bombers.

well, according to kickstarter we should get the B17, but as AI only.

Luthier said that they will think about making another kickstarter for the B17 at a later point.with the current policy of silence, lack of updates, and the fail to meet promised deadlines, i think it would result in a desaster right now though.

and even if we already had a alpha version, and communication were good, they would have to PR the next kickstarter way way better than the previous one.

its a shame that still people join this forum and ask whether its still possible to back the project as they havent heard anything about it before...this shouldnt happen with a possible next project.

besides, i somehow doubt that they will do another kickstarter...Luthier seems to hate communication and i think he hates that he somehow owes us a product now.so my guess is, that the B17 will not made flyable.

unfortunately.

i would probably stop flying fighters if there was a flyable B17 or anything like it, with every position manable by a human player.i guess though, that this will remain a unfullfilled wish.

thx but no thx :)

all the guys and friends i have spoken with, told me that bos feels more like a game than a sim.

besides they told me, that clod does everything what bos does, but just better...and i quit flyind clod because of dcs.

+non clickable pits, and arcade systems like fuel tanks which are selected automatically by the plane are things, which make me to not even want to try it.

Yep, it definitely would give big boost to game...i personally wish there will be JU 88 some day. Gotta love that bird! But any bomber would be great for sure.

Here is a great B-17 sim back in the day. It was way ahead of its time. I spent hours flying missions over Europe only to find clouds over the target and a quick break in them to drop my payload. A lot of fun. If this big beautiful girl comes to DCS I hope they implement the same amount of aircraft in the skies at one time and the high altitude AFM. This aircraft holds a special place in my family. Grandfather flew and commanded two squadrons during the war. I remember sitting in the pilots seat when I was just 3 or 4 years old. Been around them a lot. Lets hope she makes her way to DCS.
